Won't higher pH soaps degrade and dried up plastics and rubber with long term use? Diy detail claims their foam soap has enough cleaning power to remove traffic film even though is pH neutral. Also a apc like meguirs super degreaser should be high enough ph at full strength to remove traffic film with a foam cannon right?

I would say maybe point out that this isn’t Koch Chemie having a weak product but that you’re putting a wax safe prewash for slightly dirty cars against a high ph prewash, which Koch Chemie also sells, and I think it’s be a better experiment to test both companies products alongside each other
I love how your are in tune with the common consumer in this particular case you address, which one cleaned better but you also state that the one that cleans better isn’t necessarily the one you want to use as part of your weekly wash. just some great basic information that others don’t seem to address… Thank you!
If my career was focused on washing/detailing cars, I would certainly spend all this kind of time on my vehicles! But it is certainly good to know this info for purpose of selecting regular services from a vehicle detailer. Keep up the good work for all us "normal people"! 👏

Something worth mentioning @PanTheOrganizer is using a high PH (12-13) foam to neutralize wheel acid that has sulfuric or hydrofluoric acid that’s ~ph 2. I clean the heavy build up on wheels that need it, hit wheels with acid, and ~30 seconds or so later follow up with a high ph foam. Scrub and rinse. Terrific results and you don’t have to worry about post acid danger.
I really like GSF because it’s very gentle. I didn’t even remove bead maker off my car. I love it because I know that it’s not degrading my coating overtime.. on the other hand I think the Bill Hamburg stuff is very good for maybe every couple months and maintenance wash because that stuff to me a scary as it’s probably degrading your coating a lot faster than some of the other products on the market.. but great video. Good video thanks. As an ex-valeter and hobby detailer, I have used many snow foams. I now only use Bilt Hamber foam, and some of their other products too. They are not only as good as anything else available, they are usually cheaper too.
@@PanTheOrganizer I can see the slight difference with touchless, and understand why some people might use it. But, personally, the auto foam is slightly cheaper, and for me, works just as well (I never let my car get too dirty anyway). For salt/grime winter dirt removal, it might not be the absolute best, but any foam is going to struggle on it's own, and we would use something like a citrus pre cleaner before the foam to break that down. I really rate BH auto wheel too, and being a bit obsessive with wheel cleaning I tried at least 20 wheel cleaners. BH not only seems to be the most reactive fallout remover (turns a darker red than most of the others), it also turns colour quicker, and on top of that, does actually have some detergent in as well which is an effective cleaner. They should sponsor me really !!!
Koch Chemie has Sfn which is pH 12. This video compares pH neutral with a higher pH product. Gsf is a good product, but serves another purpose than a high pH precleaner. I use Gsf for regular washes, and when the car is dirty I add a little Gs or I use Carpro Reset.
Thanks for sharing. And yes Gsf is perfect for regular weekly washes as it adds lubrication to the surface (less chances of marring). Alkaline pH snow foams should only be used once in a while for deeper cleanings, or when there is accumulation of grime, traffic film, road salts, etc.
Hey Pan. I don’t use ceramic coatings. I use Jescar’s Ultralock and I always contact wash. My choice for a snow foam is Gfs. What I don’t want is for my snow foam to attack the sealant. Just my thoughts. Nice video. Always enjoy these types of videos. Till the next one.👍🏻😎
I’m a Jescar fan, too. Started with PowerLock, then recently switched to UltraLock. For me, a higher ph removing sealant/wax doesn’t bother me; I enjoy applying both. It’s a matter of goals: do I want a long lasting application? Or, is my goal to reduce scratches ? My goal is to reduce scratches, but I really enjoy applying Jescar/Colinite and “having” to reapply both doesn’t bother me. I think of it as a “win-win” situation: I get to apply Jescar/Colinite more often knowing I’m reducing the possibility of scratches. By the way, I had really good luck with UltraLock in Chicago. I applied in November, 2022 and it’s still going strong in April, 2023. How is it holding up in your area?
@@JustProAutoDetailingInc My first application goes down around June. I do a full decontamination wash with CarPro’s Descale. Wait a few days and then enhance and maintain with P&S Bead Maker. It’s a combo that works for me. I do a second application in late September. That can usually get me to March before I start to notice spots where the sealant just doesn’t exist anymore. Great demonstration of two very good products. The Bilt cost a lot more to use but it also does a lot more work and saves time. Really hope Matt Moreman sees this. He mentioned in a recent wash and talk that he wasn't sure how much better Touchless was than GSF as a pretreatment. This demonstrates very well how good Touchless is. I was finally able to pick some up and I was blown away with its performance. I just wish we could get It as cheap as our friends in the UK can get it

Hi Pan, I've learned so much from you. You are very comprehensive and obviously do your homework in predicting what concerns viewers might have, thank you! Do you think using a higher dilution for Bilt Hamber Touch-Less would lower it's PH rating for more regular use? I have limited space, live in snow/salt area and trying to find multi use products, using Touch-Less two or three times a year at it's price and volume it comes in doesn't seem practical for me. Maybe Active Foam for regular use at PH 9 is a nice middle ground? Any suggestions?
I've been using CarPro Lift for a year and loved it. Thought about trying GSF but it seems like Lift is the way to go, for me, after living in a region with lots of road salt in the winter.
Just keep in mind that you wouldn't use high alkaline pH snow foams for regular weekly washes as you'd weaken even the best coatings over repeated use. But once in a while is fine, to remove grime, accumulated road film or road salts, etc. I do that a few times on my car, including at the beginning of spring for a deeper clean, and it works perfectly, no damages to the coating. @@PanTheOrganizer Noted. Instead, is it OK to use my shampoo, Meguiar's Shampoo Plus, as foam for the twice a month washes? It still seems to pull down the dirt and grime after letting it sit for a few minutes and it seems that mechanical action of the foam dripping is what is key for cleaning loose dirt.

Hi Pan, I hope you are well. I am back with another question: 1. For heavy duty cleaning once in 3 months or so, I can use koch chemie super foam as pre wash and then carpro descale for contact wash. 2. For regular maintenance weekly cleaning, I can use a koch chemie gentle snow foam and carpro reset/lyft (ph neutral) shampoo for contact wash. Is this the right approach?
Great video as usual. I feel like bilt Hamber are doing themselves out of a significant number of customers with their dilution advice. It’s a fantastic product but a lot of people will be confused by their advice and just grab a product that tells you a simple ratio.
I like the bilt Hamber touchless in our winter here in Ottawa. Not a fan of the scent but it works. My wife’s pilot starts beading right away after using this and her vehicle just has carpro lite(which had been on there two years). I have cquk3.0 just approaching that 3 year mark and since switching from P&S pearl as my pre foam I think the touchless was killed it for good. It could be coincidence but the touchless is aggressive imo. Side note touchless is awesome for pre foaming and rinsing underside, wheels and wheel wells. I love pearl as a foam for summer months because it rinses just as easy as reset.
You definitely wouldn’t use Touch-Less for regular weekly washes as that will weaken even the best ceramic coatings after repeated use. Once every other month perhaps to remove deeper grime, road film and road salts. For regular maintenance, use a pH neutral shampoo. On another note, it’s amazing that you got three years out of CQuartz UK 3.0 as it’s a 2-year claim coating. So it was really passed its promised durability anyways.
One of the weirdest things happened when I used a high-pH foaming pre-wash followed up with a relatively neutral-pH one. I started with using 3D Super Pre-Soak in my pressure washer foamer and subsequently rinsed it. I then used Optimum Car Wash, again followed by a rinse. The resultant foam was VERY long-lasting... I still had foam on my driveway 15 hours(!!!) later. Strange indeed.

For that salty surfaces Restart Wash is awesome! Although theres no such contactless shampoo, with a little help of microfiber and boom! Surface is clean. Nice video Pan ❤

Great video thanks Pan. I have a question. On this winter I started to use a new technique for washing my car. I'm spraying with marolex ergo with 1:15 Green Star on dry and dirty paint. After I let it dwell for like 2 mins I pressure wash it closely and carefully to not miss any dirt from bottom to top after that I rinse it again this time top to bottom. Then I spray some gyeon wet coat, then rinse and air dry my car. This way it looks very clean. When I touch the paint my hand doesn't get dirty at all. At this point I'm not sure if contact was is really essential every single wash unless the car very dirty. What do you think? I'm sorry for the very long comment 😅
The Bilt Hamber Touchless works great, but it requires far too much product for it to be economical imo. I've switched to Koch Chemie Active Foam (Af), ph:9.5, and I feel it does nearly as good a job with a lot less product as it's much more concentrated and is around the same price. Super Foam (Sfn) from KC probably works even better, but may begin to strip waxes/sealants as its quite a bit higher in Ph.
@@keithblacknell957 That would save some product for sure. But in comparison, Af’s recommended dilution converts to just .33% PIR with a maximum recommendation of 1%. Which is still significantly better. It also smells way better.
I think all things are relative when it comes to weather or not it will strip waxes/sealants/coatings faster. Every resource I'm seeing is that it is still safe to use...but I would argue a few different points. I just purchased BH Auto Foam as a "pre wash" for my cars. I use it in an iK foam pro 12 with a 50:1 dilution ratio. It works better for me than GSF ever did in my iK foam pro. For whatever reason, even using the same dilution ratio, the filter would ALWAYS clog with a lot of black stuff when I used GSF. It made the Foam Pro 12 not work at all and clog up. It was a major issue and it was causing my process to be slowed down. I wash my cars at a pay and spray, so it is my only option to be able to replicate a "snow foam." After my first use with BH Auto Foam, I just loved how it went on the car. It seemed to move more volume & product. It seemed to cover a wider surface area (probably due to the filter not clogging). It had a good dwell time on the car. I liked that it wasn't super thick. I continued my wash on my ceramic coated car with GSF in my wash bucket. I just loved the experience overall. I did not realize that it was actually a higher PH, but all resources I see seems like it is safe to use - especially at the dilution ratio that I am using. Honestly, 60 washes on a sealant before breaking down...based off of 52 weeks in a year. Most people aren't washing their car weekly and I personally believe any protection is going to break down faster than that anyways - even if you did not use BH Auto Foam. I am going to continue using it simply because it seems to work really well with my setup, and I like the performance of it. I think a key factor in all this is a dilution ratio that is not super concentrated.
Nice review Pan that is exactly my findings I started using Bilt Hamber last year and I will not go back to anything else it just works I'm in Michigan so I understand the snow and the salt. I was using the GSF I don't understand all the hype I didn't think it worked that great just my personal opinion.
We should share this with the older gentleman who ceramic coated the Porsche. From memory he reckons snow foams don’t do anything which as this video proves is not true. Great video displaying it!
BH snow foams are just the best. In heavy TF conditions a second hit really takes almost all the TF / dirt away - only takes 5 minutes more and really minimises swirls from the contact wash.
One thing I just wanted to randomly drop in here, Pan - Detail Factory recently released an interior brush. It looks exactly like their tire brush that I know you like, but with softer bristles. I think they've inadvertently created my favorite WHEEL brush! The bristles are the right softness, it has (to me) a much more manageable size compared to a brush like the Wheel Woolies, and it's rubberized to protect the wheels. I'd be curious to see if you agree!

From my experience it sure does! I use a 1:10 dilution ratio. You can also pre-rinse with an APC at 1:10 (I usually add 1oz. of car shampoo)! Hope that helps!
Would like to see a comparison involving Bilt Hamber Touchless v2 PH 10.5 from v1 PH12 vs. Koch Chemie Super Foam which is still PH12 I believe. I do not recall Super Foam featured on your channel yet.
Bilt Hamber Touch-less and Carpro reset is my go to, then followed up with Bilt Hamber Touch-on shampoo to give it 3 months plus ceramic protection, absolutely the best cleaning and protection solution 🎉
Pan, thanks for doing this comparison. Funny thing, I've been using the Meguiars Gold Class car wash which has a higher PH for the past several washes then thought I'd try some left over Adams Car Shampoo, a neutral PH and found the same thing. The Adams didn't initially clean as well as the Meguiars nor did it have as much lubrication. Good to know what I found is the same as you. Love the video.
I use Gold Class shampoo myself, but I never realized it was slightly alkaline. I've already decided to move to Gyeon's Bathe for my next product, but I've got a lot of the GC left. Thanks for that info!

Thanks Jaap. On German luxury vehicles, undercarriage protection isn't really necessary (and for the rest of the vehicle neither) as they used high quality galvanized steel or aluminum, so rust isn't really an issue on modern vehicles. Plus, I only keep my cars three years and always get a new one, so rust isn't really a worry for me. But cleaning is important. To get your ceramic coating fresh again it is recommend to make 3 ph steps: 1. alkaline pH to get the organic dirt from the surface 2. acidic pH to get the mineral contamination from the surface (especially limescale) 3. pH neutral contact handwash The ceramic coating should be as good as on day one (if you used a good ceramic coating) So alkaline always for organic, acidic for minaral dirt and pH neutral for a daily job or if you use a coating which is only safe on pH neutral soaps like waxes and stuff. But ceramic coatings need to be cleaned alkaline and acidic from time to time 😊 So everything has their right to exist, it depends on what is the job 😊 But great video from you 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I haven't, as with super acidic shampoos there is always the worry of going too far and potentially reaching the chemical resistance of even the best ceramic or graphene coatings. What pH3 snow foam are you referring to?
@@PanTheOrganizer Well the company has their 3pH wash system which was certified by the VDA (German association of the Automotive Industry) as safe for all materials. Labocosmetica is an italian detailing company. Most ceramic coatings are chemical resistant to those chemicals.
No as the pre-wash is simply intended to remove the most dirt possible before the contact wash to reduce marring chanced while hand washing. Once hand washing is done, both scenarios have exactly the same clean level.
Thanks Great Video. You know you have to keep the surface in good shape, beading water easily, which indicates a nice slick surface. If you have this, its much easier to clean and keep clean since its a lot less porous which binds dirt and grime. Lots of people just dont understand this and in reality you should do some agitation because you can never get it all off. The smart people will note where on their car this consistently happens and agitate those areas and check the rest.
So the alkaline/high pH snow foam doesn’t necessarily strip vehicles of their ceramic coatings and waxes, correct? As long as they are not done consistently they are safe to use on ceramic coated vehicles.
Not quite. High pH snow foams will strip and break down regular waxes and sealants. Ceramic coatings have a much greater resistance to chemicals and can withstand a bit of these, but not on a regular weekly basis. For regular weekly washes, a pH neutral snow foam is all you'll need. On a coated car, every other month or at the start of a new season, that's where you can do a deeper cleaning to remove soiling, dirt, grime and road film, and water spots. Best course of action for the winter in areas with the scourge of salt on the roads is to do what I have done with my '88 IROC for the past 35yrs. Store it🙂

As always an excellent video showing the strong evidence for always doing a pre-wash, as well as the difference between the PH levels of snow foam and their ability for cleaning depending on the levels of paint contamination. If after that pre-wash you saw a degradation in the water sheeting and beading would you then use something like Carpro Reset for the handwash to rejuvenate the underlying coating?

I just wanted some advice/clarification, I just had my new golf R fully clear wrapped PPF and applied a Ceramic Coating on top. Which product Auto Foam / Touchless is best to use? What would be the main difference between them and when would you use one over the other? Would it be safe to say to use it a couple times a year only? Just anxious it will damage my coating or PPF overtime, normally I use GSF for regular washes every 2-3 weeks. Thank you in advance 🙏

Very good video Pan and I did enjoy your methodical approach. After watching it though I did feel like this isn't really a fair comparison. For the GSF you're using a 1:10 dilution ratio (which is probably what Koch Chemie recommends) whereas the BH Touchless you're using nearly a 1:1 ratio. So your BH Touchless is almost 5 times more concentrated than the GSF. I wonder if the GSF would perform similar to the BH Touchless if they were at the same dilution ratio.
I used the manufacturer recommended dilutions for both. This isn’t about dilutions though. The Gsf even at a higher dilution still remains pH neutral. The point here was to show what an alkaline pH snow foam does versus a pH neutral foam. The difference is pretty obvious especially in person. That doesn’t mean Gsf is a bad snow foam. Quite the opposite. It’s one of the best snow foams for regular washes as you wouldn’t use an alkaline snow foam every week. You’d be weakening the protection if you use high pH snow foams too often.
Hi Pan. So I’ve seen you do touchless with McKees then rinse then foam, then rinse, then contact. I’ve also seen you do foam, then rinse, then contact. Which method do you do more often?

Alkaline is not meant for waxes, only for ceramic coatings. Those are meant to be cleaned alkaline, neutral and acidic. Ceramic coatings are chemical resistant, waxes not, they should always be washed pH neutral 😊
You would certainly not use this on waxed cars unless you plan on reapplying after the wash, as alkaline soaps will strip or at lesst start breaking down waxes and regular sealants. If used too often they can sven start weakening ceramic coatings. So for regular weekly washes use a pH neutral snow foam or use the Bilt Hamber at 2% PIR instead of 5%. You use the stronger concentration once in a while for deeper cleaning, grime and road film removal, road salts removal, etc.
I have been using Nerta Carnet Jumbo for last 2.5 years which has high pH level on multiple brand new cars and never had issue with the pain work. It cleans the car so well touch less and I have never had to hand wash either cars. I would say it cleans and shines 95% of the car which is good enough for me.
Great video 👍. Could you please make a video on ONRs ability to fight calcium ? Ive been told to add some ONR to my soap wash bucket to minimize the amount of calcium left on the paint after wash on a hot sunny day ? I struggle a lot with this in my driveway..... It does not seem to work at all.....
When you prepare your wash solution in the bucket, add one ounce of ONR in the mix, and that will help to soften the water a bit. It's not as perfect as having a true water deionizer setup, but it will help. Still, always work in the shade and on a cool surface. Always rinse the snow foam off before the contact wash. So you can foam, rinse, wash. Or if you want even more lubrication, you would foam, rinse, foam, wash.
I normally first use Griot's Garage Foaming Surface Prep because I don’t like to wash dirt off with just water, than use Koch Chemie snow foam to use brushes in all the cracks and do my contact wash with Meguiar’s. Maybe that is over kill, but that is the way I do it.
Speaking of snow foam and ph. I wonder if you could do a video on cleaning and protecting modern soft top convertible cars and what type of pH neutral soaps you would use for weekly washing Vs say a seasonal deep cleaning of the top. Question. Would you say using an si02 based car wash soap is ok on a convertible stop top for regular maintenance washes ?

There aren't that many who recommend that to be honest. All the channels I follow do it the same way I do. I have tested with doing it from bottom up instead, and I didn't notice any difference really. Perhaps some that do see a difference with a specific snow foam. You can try it too. I doubt you will see any difference regardless of which method you test. The key factor is more that pre-wash is effective when using the proper snow foam.

I absolutely love Descale but it’s not quite used for the same reasons as Bilt Hamber. Your higher pH will attack grease, road film and grime, whike your lower pH will attack minerals and water spots. So it’s good to have both in your arsenal. Mais garder en tête que la protection si un peu fragile, a un risque de se réduire. Mais une fois de temps en temps ça lave plus fort et plus vite. You certainly wouldn’t use this for regular weekly washes as it will start to weaken and break down weaker protections like waxes and sealants and can even weaken ceramic coatings if used too often. I dont have a strong snow foam i use the sonax profiline actifoam but i spray meguiars apc pn the whole car before snowfoaming and then let it rinse. But when the sonax is done i might pick up the lift from carpro
Can’t go wrong with Bilt hamber. Here in the UK I also use a snowfoam from a company called Garage Therapy which is also a sugar based high ph foam. Cleans just as well but with a lower PIR of 2%
Hi Paul. For sure, alkaline shampoos can start breaking down and stripping waxes and sealants, as those don't have strong chemical resistance properties. Ceramic coatings have much higher resistance to chemicals, but if you use strong alkaline shampoos or very acidic shampoos on ceramic coatings too often, like every week, even coatings will start to weaken. For regular weekly washes, a pH neutral shampoo or snow foam is all you need. Once in a while, to do a deeper cleaning of grime and accumulated traffic film, like at the beginning of spring, then you can use higher pH soaps or acidic ones. I personally use Mega foam as pre wash just to remove dust. But if my cars are really dirty then I use Bilt Hamber touchless. The three main pre wash cleaners are Bilt hamber touchless and auto foam. Gyeon pre wash too. GSF is probably useless plus is high price, not worth it. I live in the Midwest U.S my cars get cover with a blanket of dust and pollen a few hours after I wash them so it’s very frustrating!

Touchless seems to be a bit better in several reviews, so will test that one aswell if my 5L of autofoam is empty :)! BTW. Won't higher pH soaps degrade and dried up plastics and rubber with long term use? Diy detail claims their foam soap has enough cleaning power to remove traffic film even though is pH neutral. Also a apc like meguirs super degreaser should be high enough ph at full strength to remove traffic film with a foam cannon right?

I would say maybe point out that this isn’t Koch Chemie having a weak product but that you’re putting a wax safe prewash for slightly dirty cars against a high ph prewash, which Koch Chemie also sells, and I think it’s be a better experiment to test both companies products alongside each other

I use adams mega foam in my cannon then I use carpro reset. It really does a great job keeping my ceramic coat clean and contentment free

Something worth mentioning @PanTheOrganizer is using a high PH (12-13) foam to neutralize wheel acid that has sulfuric or hydrofluoric acid that’s ~ph 2. I clean the heavy build up on wheels that need it, hit wheels with acid, and ~30 seconds or so later follow up with a high ph foam. Scrub and rinse. Terrific results and you don’t have to worry about post acid danger.

I really like GSF because it’s very gentle. I didn’t even remove bead maker off my car. I love it because I know that it’s not degrading my coating overtime.. on the other hand I think the Bill Hamburg stuff is very good for maybe every couple months and maintenance wash because that stuff to me a scary as it’s probably degrading your coating a lot faster than some of the other products on the market.. but great video. As an ex-valeter and hobby detailer, I have used many snow foams.
I now only use Bilt Hamber foam, and some of their other products too.
They are not only as good as anything else available, they are usually cheaper too.

@@PanTheOrganizer I can see the slight difference with touchless, and understand why some people might use it.
But, personally, the auto foam is slightly cheaper, and for me, works just as well (I never let my car get too dirty anyway).
For salt/grime winter dirt removal, it might not be the absolute best, but any foam is going to struggle on it's own, and we would use something like a citrus pre cleaner before the foam to break that down.
I really rate BH auto wheel too, and being a bit obsessive with wheel cleaning I tried at least 20 wheel cleaners. BH not only seems to be the most reactive fallout remover (turns a darker red than most of the others), it also turns colour quicker, and on top of that, does actually have some detergent in as well which is an effective cleaner.

Koch Chemie has Sfn which is pH 12. This video compares pH neutral with a higher pH product. Gsf is a good product, but serves another purpose than a high pH precleaner. I use Gsf for regular washes, and when the car is dirty I add a little Gs or I use Carpro Reset.
Thanks for sharing. And yes Gsf is perfect for regular weekly washes as it adds lubrication to the surface (less chances of marring). Alkaline pH snow foams should only be used once in a while for deeper cleanings, or when there is accumulation of grime, traffic film, road salts, etc.
Hey Pan. I don’t use ceramic coatings. I use Jescar’s Ultralock and I always contact wash. My choice for a snow foam is Gfs. What I don’t want is for my snow foam to attack the sealant. Just my thoughts. Nice video. Always enjoy these types of videos. Till the next one.👍🏻😎
I’m a Jescar fan, too. Started with PowerLock, then recently switched to UltraLock. For me, a higher ph removing sealant/wax doesn’t bother me; I enjoy applying both. It’s a matter of goals: do I want a long lasting application? Or, is my goal to reduce scratches ? My goal is to reduce scratches, but I really enjoy applying Jescar/Colinite and “having” to reapply both doesn’t bother me. I think of it as a “win-win” situation: I get to apply Jescar/Colinite more often knowing I’m reducing the possibility of scratches. By the way, I had really good luck with UltraLock in Chicago. I applied in November, 2022 and it’s still going strong in April, 2023. How is it holding up in your area?
@@JustProAutoDetailingInc My first application goes down around June. I do a full decontamination wash with CarPro’s Descale. Wait a few days and then enhance and maintain with P&S Bead Maker. It’s a combo that works for me. I do a second application in late September. That can usually get me to March before I start to notice spots where the sealant just doesn’t exist anymore. Really hope Matt Moreman sees this. He mentioned in a recent wash and talk that he wasn't sure how much better Touchless was than GSF as a pretreatment. This demonstrates very well how good Touchless is. I was finally able to pick some up and I was blown away with its performance. I just wish we could get It as cheap as our friends in the UK can get it

Do you think using a higher dilution for Bilt Hamber Touch-Less would lower it's PH rating for more regular use? I have limited space, live in snow/salt area and trying to find multi use products, using Touch-Less two or three times a year at it's price and volume it comes in doesn't seem practical for me.
Maybe Active Foam for regular use at PH 9 is a nice middle ground?

I've been using CarPro Lift for a year and loved it. Thought about trying GSF but it seems like Lift is the way to go, for me, after living in a region with lots of road salt in the winter.
Just keep in mind that you wouldn't use high alkaline pH snow foams for regular weekly washes as you'd weaken even the best coatings over repeated use. But once in a while is fine, to remove grime, accumulated road film or road salts, etc. I do that a few times on my car, including at the beginning of spring for a deeper clean, and it works perfectly, no damages to the coating.

@@PanTheOrganizer Noted. Instead, is it OK to use my shampoo, Meguiar's Shampoo Plus, as foam for the twice a month washes? It still seems to pull down the dirt and grime after letting it sit for a few minutes and it seems that mechanical action of the foam dripping is what is key for cleaning loose dirt.
@@PanTheOrganizerTell that to the European guys that use Alkaline snow foams every wash. If your ceramic coating is affected by the soap you use then it’s not a good product.

1. For heavy duty cleaning once in 3 months or so, I can use koch chemie super foam as pre wash and then carpro descale for contact wash.
2. For regular maintenance weekly cleaning, I can use a koch chemie gentle snow foam and carpro reset/lyft (ph neutral) shampoo for contact wash.
Is this the right approach?
will using a high ph snow foam over a long period of time cause some bits on the exterior to look faded ?

I like the bilt Hamber touchless in our winter here in Ottawa. Not a fan of the scent but it works. My wife’s pilot starts beading right away after using this and her vehicle just has carpro lite(which had been on there two years). I have cquk3.0 just approaching that 3 year mark and since switching from P&S pearl as my pre foam I think the touchless was killed it for good. It could be coincidence but the touchless is aggressive imo. Side note touchless is awesome for pre foaming and rinsing underside, wheels and wheel wells.
I love pearl as a foam for summer months because it rinses just as easy as reset.
You definitely wouldn’t use Touch-Less for regular weekly washes as that will weaken even the best ceramic coatings after repeated use. Once every other month perhaps to remove deeper grime, road film and road salts. For regular maintenance, use a pH neutral shampoo.
On another note, it’s amazing that you got three years out of CQuartz UK 3.0 as it’s a 2-year claim coating. So it was really passed its promised durability anyways.
@@PanTheOrganizer oh man I never realized I shouldn’t use touchless weekly. I did however only use it when it was very dirty.
One of the weirdest things happened when I used a high-pH foaming pre-wash followed up with a relatively neutral-pH one. I started with using 3D Super Pre-Soak in my pressure washer foamer and subsequently rinsed it. I then used Optimum Car Wash, again followed by a rinse. The resultant foam was VERY long-lasting... I still had foam on my driveway 15 hours(!!!) later.
Strange indeed.

Great video thanks Pan. I have a question. On this winter I started to use a new technique for washing my car. I'm spraying with marolex ergo with 1:15 Green Star on dry and dirty paint. After I let it dwell for like 2 mins I pressure wash it closely and carefully to not miss any dirt from bottom to top after that I rinse it again this time top to bottom. Then I spray some gyeon wet coat, then rinse and air dry my car. This way it looks very clean. When I touch the paint my hand doesn't get dirty at all. At this point I'm not sure if contact was is really essential every single wash unless the car very dirty. What do you think? I'm sorry for the very long comment 😅

The Bilt Hamber Touchless works great, but it requires far too much product for it to be economical imo. I've switched to Koch Chemie Active Foam (Af), ph:9.5, and I feel it does nearly as good a job with a lot less product as it's much more concentrated and is around the same price. Super Foam (Sfn) from KC probably works even better, but may begin to strip waxes/sealants as its quite a bit higher in Ph.

@@keithblacknell957 That would save some product for sure. But in comparison, Af’s recommended dilution converts to just .33% PIR with a maximum recommendation of 1%. Which is still significantly better. It also smells way better.
I think all things are relative when it comes to weather or not it will strip waxes/sealants/coatings faster. Every resource I'm seeing is that it is still safe to use...but I would argue a few different points. I just purchased BH Auto Foam as a "pre wash" for my cars. I use it in an iK foam pro 12 with a 50:1 dilution ratio. It works better for me than GSF ever did in my iK foam pro. For whatever reason, even using the same dilution ratio, the filter would ALWAYS clog with a lot of black stuff when I used GSF. It made the Foam Pro 12 not work at all and clog up. It was a major issue and it was causing my process to be slowed down.
I wash my cars at a pay and spray, so it is my only option to be able to replicate a "snow foam." After my first use with BH Auto Foam, I just loved how it went on the car. It seemed to move more volume & product. It seemed to cover a wider surface area (probably due to the filter not clogging). It had a good dwell time on the car. I liked that it wasn't super thick. I continued my wash on my ceramic coated car with GSF in my wash bucket. I just loved the experience overall. I did not realize that it was actually a higher PH, but all resources I see seems like it is safe to use - especially at the dilution ratio that I am using.
Honestly, 60 washes on a sealant before breaking down...based off of 52 weeks in a year. Most people aren't washing their car weekly and I personally believe any protection is going to break down faster than that anyways - even if you did not use BH Auto Foam. I am going to continue using it simply because it seems to work really well with my setup, and I like the performance of it. I think a key factor in all this is a dilution ratio that is not super concentrated.

Nice review Pan that is exactly my findings I started using Bilt Hamber last year and I will not go back to anything else it just works I'm in Michigan so I understand the snow and the salt. I was using the GSF I don't understand all the hype I didn't think it worked that great just my personal opinion.
Gsf is very good for lubrication, but isn’t meant to deep clean like Bilt Hamber.
We should share this with the older gentleman who ceramic coated the Porsche. From memory he reckons snow foams don’t do anything which as this video proves is not true. Great video displaying it!

BH snow foams are just the best. In heavy TF conditions a second hit really takes almost all the TF / dirt away - only takes 5 minutes more and really minimises swirls from the contact wash.
One thing I just wanted to randomly drop in here, Pan - Detail Factory recently released an interior brush. It looks exactly like their tire brush that I know you like, but with softer bristles. I think they've inadvertently created my favorite WHEEL brush! The bristles are the right softness, it has (to me) a much more manageable size compared to a brush like the Wheel Woolies, and it's rubberized to protect the wheels. I'd be curious to see if you agree!
I use that interior brush as a tire dressing applicator often.

From my experience it sure does! I use a 1:10 dilution ratio. You can also pre-rinse with an APC at 1:10 (I usually add 1oz. of car shampoo)! Hope that helps!
Yes. I add 5% bilt hamber Surfex HD to a pH neutral snow foam. Works great and better than binning rubbish snow foams

Funny thing, I've been using the Meguiars Gold Class car wash which has a higher PH for the past several washes then thought I'd try some left over Adams Car Shampoo, a neutral PH and found the same thing. The Adams didn't initially clean as well as the Meguiars nor did it have as much lubrication. Good to know what I found is the same as you. Love the video.
I use Gold Class shampoo myself, but I never realized it was slightly alkaline. I've already decided to move to Gyeon's Bathe for my next product, but I've got a lot of the GC left. Thanks for that info!

Thanks Jaap. On German luxury vehicles, undercarriage protection isn't really necessary (and for the rest of the vehicle neither) as they used high quality galvanized steel or aluminum, so rust isn't really an issue on modern vehicles. Plus, I only keep my cars three years and always get a new one, so rust isn't really a worry for me.
But cleaning is important. I still clean the underside of vehicles during winter months, with a special tool, as shown in my video here: th-cam.com/video/t7HCBSVnizM/w-d-xo.html

To get your ceramic coating fresh again it is recommend to make 3 ph steps:
1. alkaline pH to get the organic dirt from the surface
2. acidic pH to get the mineral contamination from the surface (especially limescale)
3. pH neutral contact handwash
The ceramic coating should be as good as on day one (if you used a good ceramic coating)
So alkaline always for organic, acidic for minaral dirt and pH neutral for a daily job or if you use a coating which is only safe on pH neutral soaps like waxes and stuff.
But ceramic coatings need to be cleaned alkaline and acidic from time to time 😊
So everything has their right to exist, it depends on what is the job 😊

I haven't, as with super acidic shampoos there is always the worry of going too far and potentially reaching the chemical resistance of even the best ceramic or graphene coatings.
What pH3 snow foam are you referring to?

Labocosmetica is an italian detailing company.
Most ceramic coatings are chemical resistant to those chemicals.

Great info! Do you think after the contact wash, you will be able to tell the difference between the pH 12 and pH 7.5 wash?
No as the pre-wash is simply intended to remove the most dirt possible before the contact wash to reduce marring chanced while hand washing.
Once hand washing is done, both scenarios have exactly the same clean level.

Thanks Great Video. You know you have to keep the surface in good shape, beading water easily, which indicates a nice slick surface. If you have this, its much easier to clean and keep clean since its a lot less porous which binds dirt and grime. Lots of people just dont understand this and in reality you should do some agitation because you can never get it all off. The smart people will note where on their car this consistently happens and agitate those areas and check the rest.
So the alkaline/high pH snow foam doesn’t necessarily strip vehicles of their ceramic coatings and waxes, correct? As long as they are not done consistently they are safe to use on ceramic coated vehicles.
Not quite. High pH snow foams will strip and break down regular waxes and sealants. Ceramic coatings have a much greater resistance to chemicals and can withstand a bit of these, but not on a regular weekly basis. For regular weekly washes, a pH neutral snow foam is all you'll need.
On a coated car, every other month or at the start of a new season, that's where you can do a deeper cleaning to remove soiling, dirt, grime and road film, and water spots. gsf recommendation is 20ml for 1000ml, does it recommendation does not work? why you use 1:10 ratio?
I use a 20 degree wide tip on my PW with 1800 psi at the gun, and rinse very slowly and get about 99% of everything off with the higher ph soap.
All that road salt and grime is under the vehicle causing corrosion. Do you do anything to clean the undercarriage?
An undercarriage cleaner. You can see it in action in a recent detailing video I made about an Audi Q7.
Best course of action for the winter in areas with the scourge of salt on the roads is to do what I have done with my '88 IROC for the past 35yrs. Store it🙂

As always an excellent video showing the strong evidence for always doing a pre-wash, as well as the difference between the PH levels of snow foam and their ability for cleaning depending on the levels of paint contamination. If after that pre-wash you saw a degradation in the water sheeting and beading would you then use something like Carpro Reset for the handwash to rejuvenate the underlying coating?
Always follow up with a contact wash. And yes Reset is my favourite shampoo for coated cars to remove road grime and traffic film.

I just wanted some advice/clarification, I just had my new golf R fully clear wrapped PPF and applied a Ceramic Coating on top. Which product Auto Foam / Touchless is best to use? What would be the main difference between them and when would you use one over the other? Would it be safe to say to use it a couple times a year only? Just anxious it will damage my coating or PPF overtime, normally I use GSF for regular washes every 2-3 weeks. Thank you in advance 🙏

You wouldn’t use the high alkaline snow foam for every regular wash as it can weaken and strip weaker protections like waxes and sealants. It can also weaken coatings if used too often at higher concentrations.
Alkaline snow foams are meant for deeper cleaning of grime and road film once in a while like for the beginning of spring to remove winter muck or before a full prep and protection application to start breaking down older protection.

Very good video Pan and I did enjoy your methodical approach. After watching it though I did feel like this isn't really a fair comparison. For the GSF you're using a 1:10 dilution ratio (which is probably what Koch Chemie recommends) whereas the BH Touchless you're using nearly a 1:1 ratio. So your BH Touchless is almost 5 times more concentrated than the GSF. I wonder if the GSF would perform similar to the BH Touchless if they were at the same dilution ratio.
I used the manufacturer recommended dilutions for both. This isn’t about dilutions though. The Gsf even at a higher dilution still remains pH neutral.
The point here was to show what an alkaline pH snow foam does versus a pH neutral foam. The difference is pretty obvious especially in person.
That doesn’t mean Gsf is a bad snow foam. Quite the opposite. It’s one of the best snow foams for regular washes as you wouldn’t use an alkaline snow foam every week. You’d be weakening the protection if you use high pH snow foams too often.
Hi Pan. So I’ve seen you do touchless with McKees then rinse then foam, then rinse, then contact. I’ve also seen you do foam, then rinse, then contact. Which method do you do more often?
Foam, rinse and contact. Sometimes pre-treat, rinse, foam, rinse, foam wash.

Another good one Pan. Very interesting the power of an alkaline soap. I'll try the new Touch Less soon. Is GSF with GS infuse can do any better?? Also, my daily car during winter time is protected with a sealant (Jescar Power Lock+). Can I proceed with an alkaline pre-treatment occasionally to removed most of the dir? Bilt Hamber cleans very well, just concerns me what effects the higher alkaline foams have on coatings/waxes
Alkaline is not meant for waxes, only for ceramic coatings. Those are meant to be cleaned alkaline, neutral and acidic. Ceramic coatings are chemical resistant, waxes not, they should always be washed pH neutral 😊
You would certainly not use this on waxed cars unless you plan on reapplying after the wash, as alkaline soaps will strip or at lesst start breaking down waxes and regular sealants.
If used too often they can sven start weakening ceramic coatings. So for regular weekly washes use a pH neutral snow foam or use the Bilt Hamber at 2% PIR instead of 5%.
You use the stronger concentration once in a while for deeper cleaning, grime and road film removal, road salts removal, etc.
I have been using Nerta Carnet Jumbo for last 2.5 years which has high pH level on multiple brand new cars and never had issue with the pain work. It cleans the car so well touch less and I have never had to hand wash either cars. I would say it cleans and shines 95% of the car which is good enough for me.

Ive been told to add some ONR to my soap wash bucket to minimize the amount of calcium left on the paint after wash on a hot sunny day ? I struggle a lot with this in my driveway..... It does not seem to work at all.....
When you prepare your wash solution in the bucket, add one ounce of ONR in the mix, and that will help to soften the water a bit. It's not as perfect as having a true water deionizer setup, but it will help. Still, always work in the shade and on a cool surface. If you wash your car as late as possible at the end of the day, that will help.

Always rinse the snow foam off before the contact wash. So you can foam, rinse, wash. Or if you want even more lubrication, you would foam, rinse, foam, wash.
I normally first use Griot's Garage Foaming Surface Prep because I don’t like to wash dirt off with just water, than use Koch Chemie snow foam to use brushes in all the cracks and do my contact wash with Meguiar’s. Maybe that is over kill, but that is the way I do it.
Speaking of snow foam and ph. I wonder if you could do a video on cleaning and protecting modern soft top convertible cars and what type of pH neutral soaps you would use for weekly washing Vs say a seasonal deep cleaning of the top. Question. Would you say using an si02 based car wash soap is ok on a convertible stop top for regular maintenance washes ?

There aren't that many who recommend that to be honest. All the channels I follow do it the same way I do. I have tested with doing it from bottom up instead, and I didn't notice any difference really. Perhaps some that do see a difference with a specific snow foam.
You can try it too. I doubt you will see any difference regardless of which method you test. The key factor is more that pre-wash is effective when using the proper snow foam.

Carpro Descale works for me excellently instead of Bilt Hamber, which is quite a bit pricier.
I absolutely love Descale but it’s not quite used for the same reasons as Bilt Hamber. Your higher pH will attack grease, road film and grime, whike your lower pH will attack minerals and water spots.

I dont have a strong snow foam i use the sonax profiline actifoam but i spray meguiars apc pn the whole car before snowfoaming and then let it rinse. But when the sonax is done i might pick up the lift from carpro
Can’t go wrong with Bilt hamber. Here in the UK I also use a snowfoam from a company called Garage Therapy which is also a sugar based high ph foam. Cleans just as well but with a lower PIR of 2%

Hi Paul. For sure, alkaline shampoos can start breaking down and stripping waxes and sealants, as those don't have strong chemical resistance properties. Ceramic coatings have much higher resistance to chemicals, but if you use strong alkaline shampoos or very acidic shampoos on ceramic coatings too often, like every week, even coatings will start to weaken.
For regular weekly washes, a pH neutral shampoo or snow foam is all you need. Once in a while, to do a deeper cleaning of grime and accumulated traffic film, like at the beginning of spring, then you can use higher pH soaps or acidic ones. I personally use Mega foam as pre wash just to remove dust. But if my cars are really dirty then I use Bilt Hamber touchless. The three main pre wash cleaners are Bilt hamber touchless and auto foam. Gyeon pre wash too. GSF is probably useless plus is high price, not worth it. I live in the Midwest U.S my cars get cover with a blanket of dust and pollen a few hours after I wash them so it’s very frustrating!

Can high ph snow foam ruin car tint? I know certain chemicals and destory the tint.
The tint film is on the inside of the vehicle. You only foam the exterior. ;)
