    Yeah tile from the 2nd from bottom row. Install a baton called a datum, to mark out where to start your tiling. Go either centre of tile to the middle of the wall, or centre of grout line. That way you can make sure you don’t get any silly cuts on the sides. Repeat the same for the height and you’ve set out your wall then

    • @NickyandHarri
      @NickyandHarri  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      A datum, another random word for our DIY dictionary! 🤓
      Appreciate the advice, will make sure we refer back to it the next time we take on some tiling- maybe for the kitchen! 🙂👍🏻

    You two are super cute. When it comes to kitchens, whatever you go with, make the wall cupboards tall enough to reach the ceilings. Little used items can be stored high up, and not having cupboard tops that collect dust is a game changer for sure. Stay safe young 'uns.

    Install a "shelf" a row up from bottom of tiled wall, this "shelf" holds the weight of all tiles above it and stops them sliding...also NEVER screw into a moisture barrier like that, and also you should've moisture taped the joints

  • @moodogtizer5884
    @moodogtizer5884 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Bless ya never seen anyone tile from the top before 😂. Fix a peace of baton to the wall near the bottom making sure you don't have any small cuts at the top or bottom and use tile spacers there like £2 for 500. 2mm is the normal. Jasmine grout would suit them tiles

    • @NickyandHarri

    Tile from the bottom using a datum to give you a perfect level to tile from. If you use tile spacers & good consistency of adhesive, they won't be able to slide.

    Hi Nicki and Harry,
    For wall tiling you screw a battern around halfway up or lower if all the tiles are the same then tile from it upwards when finished take battern off and tile the rest. Tiling is all about setting out so you don't get narrow tiles top or bottom. But anyway you did a great job in the end so well done and keep up the good work. All the best Julian.

    • @NickyandHarri
      @NickyandHarri  ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha yeh I think we kinda rushed into it because we were excited 😅 But next time I reckon it’s defo worth spending time mapping it all out as you said! Thank you for the advice - noted ☺️

  • @dolphinlover1691
    @dolphinlover1691 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Last time I did any tiling, I used a packet of plastic spacers in all the corners that looked like + + + + the tiles being butted up to them.
    However those were for small square symmetrical tiles, not the large staggered spacing ones like yours that are now fashionable. The spacers were left in situ then grouted over.
    Worked really well. The gaps all remained identical and symmetrical.
    I'll stick with £320K 💰
    The ultimate value depends on whether it will become a FTB or a retirement home.
    I may have said this before, but food shops, doctors and public transport connections are all important to buyers in more rural areas 🏡
    Different types of buyers will have different priorities.
    Whatever happens, keep up the good work 👌
    I enjoy watching progress 😃

    • @NickyandHarri
      @NickyandHarri  ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers for this comment, we actually did use spacers but found them pretty rubbish at times (probably because we had to butter so thick as our walls are pretty warped!)
      Nice and strong guess at 320, fingers crossed as it’s a really nice area within 5 minutes to a train station and Waitrose supermarket! 🙂🤞🏻

    How interesting to see how house renovation is done in the Island Kingdom. It is very different from the renovation methods in my home country. Your house will be really beautiful when you finish the renovation.
    Hmm. I don't know where in England you live, but I guess that winters are colder than summers for you too. Most likely, your sewage pipe freezes in the winter when it is freezing outside, because you installed it on the outside wall of the house without any kind of insulation. Usually, all water pipes and waste water pipes are installed inside the house, where they are protected from the weather.
    The waterproof boards in the bathroom should be sealed at the seams. You left big gaps at the joints of the boards, which you didn't seal in any way, so there is a big chance that there will be water damage to the shower walls due to these unsealed gaps. And some already said that the tiling of the walls is done from the bottom up after the floor has been tiled first.
    When you open the ceiling, partition or floor, you have the option to add heat insulation and sound insulation to the partition ceiling.
    Good luck! 😀

    • @NickyandHarri
      @NickyandHarri  ปีที่แล้ว

      Building control gave us the all clear. They told us had it been the other way round it would have failed. The only difference between the terracotta pipes and the black pipes on the side of the house is that the black are UV resistant so the sun doesn’t damage them. So they’re actually stronger than the terracotta so will be fine for underground use. 😊 ya learn something new everyday! (Or atleast we did 😅)

    • @NickyandHarri
      @NickyandHarri  ปีที่แล้ว

      We’ll know to tile from the bottom next time at least- what you see there is the boxing around the pipe, it was impossible to match up in the staggered pattern as we were running out of tiles. So is what it is

    Wait, did you switch to a gas heating system??? Considering the unstable power supply, it might have been better to install some solar panels on the roof. My brother went completely off-grid with his solar panels...
    Then again, solar panels require a long wait time and you're trying to push a time limit. Maybe a future idea?
    £309, 000 - sticking to that estimate

    • @NickyandHarri
      @NickyandHarri  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey bud, solar is definitely something we want to incorporate into a future project, but for this one we just switch to electric central heating. (There is no gas available in the village anyway)!

    Adult gaming. The dopamine is the thing that occurs when you complete a task. Very emotive watching your combined youthfulness. The price won't reflect the blood, sweat, and tears invested or the love, so no estimate for me 😊
