      Why you compare T-Roc with Ateca and Karoq? T-Roc is in the same category as Seat Arona. :-)

      If you look at the platform, it is like this:
      MQB A0 - VW T-Cross, Seat Arona, Skoda Polar
      MQB A1 - VW T-Roc, Seat Ateca, Skoda Karoq
      MQB A2 - VW Tiguan, Seat (name tbc), Skoda Kodiaq

      Autogefühl having so called unified platform is dissadvantage in my opinion. All cars look the same. Interior is almost identical: golf, passat, artheon, now t-rock etc. It is so boring. I have passat B8 and I tought it had its own style but it looks like all other VWs.

    • @richardmcfarlane-cen6132
      @richardmcfarlane-cen6132 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thinking from the perspective of Autogefühl’s comments on platforms above. It really does not make financial sense to create separate platforms for each and every vehicle. Perhaps considering things from a brand perspective will help. Lots of manufactured products are made on so-called platforms e.g., all Apple products look familiar. If you like a brand’s aesthetics, then you choose it and start considering what your practical requirements are. I am, like yourself, a VW Passat (B8) owner and really enjoy my car, interior included. It is a VW and it suits my practical needs. If you do not like the VW aesthetic any more, then you could consider choosing a new car from within the VW group. The group provides a solid line up: SEAT, Audi, Porsche or another even more expensive brand. The car you choose might be, as a for instance, the Audi Q3, which is on the same platform as the VW Tiguan. All Audi's look similar, unless you consider the versions, but even then the so-called DNA is there throughout the brand and between generations. If you want a different platform and design, then you leave and move to completely new pastures i.e., Ford, Honda, Toyota, Mercedes Benz and so forth. There is plenty of choice.

    It's more a Polo-SUV as a Golf-SUV. For example, the door-panels are the same as in the Polo - one part cheap hard plastic and a tiny part of cloth for the arm-rest. If it is a Golf-SUV the door-panel would have soft touch at the upper end and much more cloth in it, but the door-panels in an Audi Q2 are cheap too. Another example is the cheap version of the hood fastener.

    It seems this car will compete with the Honda HRV and Subraru Crosstrek. If so, it should do well. The cars coming from the land of the rising sun are starting to look like spaceships from Manga comics (most notably the CRV and Lexus). Persuaded the girlfriend into buying a 2018 Tiguan (All Space in Europe) and she's glad she did. I appreciate the understatement of VW. In the long term, this design will grow on you and it'll stand up against the test of time. Less is more yo'.

    I agree with Thomas, I think it will be a great sales success. It looks really good, a lot better than the Audi Q2, which I find really boring! I can see a lot of people upgrading their Golf to a T-Roc, and higher spec ones stealing sales from the Q2!

    Thank you. Excellent video analysis of a very PERFECT vehicle. My only opinion is regarding the knob for adjusting the back of the seat. Personally I love that about Volkswagens and any other manufacturer that uses it. I absolutely hate having four or five positions for the seat backs, and the knob gives you infinite adjustability. Well done!

  • @klackon1
    @klackon1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Another great preview, thank you. I really like the look of this car. For me, the exterior is slightly better looking than my Peugeot 3008, but the interior doesn't come close. It is also just a bit too small for my needs. Other than that, I think it's a very attractive purchase. Thomas, you mentioned no hybrid, electric or CNG version which prompts me to ask: are there hidden environmental costs to electric cars that are not talked about? I've often wondered about the impact of mining the raw materials for the batteries, then the transportation costs in terms of pollution as well as pollution caused by the manufacture of the batteries. What are your thoughts?

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      yes this is an aspect that needs careful consideration. Basically there is an environmental problem with almost every raw material. It's sadly our system of economy which is boosting reckless profit on the costs of exploiting people and the environment. The whole oil production is surely a bigger issue though. It will be the challenge of the future to make the economy sustainable

    Today i visited the local VW dealer in Canada and found out that the T-Roc will not be sold in North America. Furthermore, the Short wheel base Tigual is also not coming to Canada or the US. This means that VW will only have the LWB Tiguan and the Atlas available in their SUV lineup for Canadian. Personally, this means that I will not buy my next vehicle from VW. VW will never succeed in Canada like Toyota have selling appliance vehicles.

    Great to see the T-Roc review Thomas. Nice job! Looking forward to seeing the test drive. I too think that this car is going to be very successful. I like that they have preserved the main design elements of the original concept car. As manufacturing technology moves forward, more car makers appear enabled to do so. Looking at the car itself, the overall exterior and, particularly the light signatures, are very neat. The interior is very good looking as well, being still classically VW, but with a modern and personable design. Practically speaking, the car and it is boot size appear to be a good size.

    I think the qashqai does not need to worry. This car is just not...VW enough. The design is too generic(hide the badge and you would be hard pressed to guess the brand), the materials are not up to par with other VW products and except for the active info display and the infotainment system it has no real weapons to fight against the Nissan crossover. Volkswagen has more and more cheaper interior with every new model. If you don't believe me. Spend some time at VW showroom. Try to sit in Golf VII (introduced in 2012 ) that car has almost same interior quality like passat. Then try sit into new Tiguan. And guess what ? Cheaper than Golf. Then think about prices of Tiguan and Golf.
    it's going into wrong direction for Volkswagen,.

    VW (like Honda) consistency misreads the American market - offering underpowered vehicles + saves best stuff for other markets -- T-ROC would be a GTI cute ute and sell a ton especially in 4Motion- not selling it and maintaining the old TIGUAN shows the Germans are not as accurate as their reputation! Selling the Long Wheelbase TIGUAN and NOT the short WB European version is another mistake- and not selling the Scirocco-- no wonder so many buy Mustangs and Camaros=POWER= fund to drive-- not everyone carves through Alpine roads or narrow European streets! EVEN a version of the T-ROC to compete with the KIA NIRO - would be another runaway best seller-- but VW is off base in marketing for USA as poast sales has proven -- hoping someone inVW management visits America for market research !

    • @kraenk12
      @kraenk12 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The problem is it would be too small and too expensive if not produced in the US and to do that the prospected sales numbers would simply be too small. That's business.

    Panoramic sunroof should not be given, It Increases the price. In Asia and middleeast hot countries sunroof is no use. small alloys will keep cost less . Safety like acc and lane assist and led head and tail lamps should be standard. Manual tail gate is ok. Navigation with Android auto and apple car play should be standard. Analog display for driver info is ok to keep car cost low. Engine 1.5tsi with Awd. Or 2.0 tsi. Hope comes to middleeast to rival Mazda cx3, Mitsubishi ASX, Nissan juke, Renault captur, Nissan Kicks and Ford ecosport (new which will launch in few months).

    Good-looking car but why have 2 cars that look alike, are exactly the same size and do exactly the same chores? The Q2 is enough to please someone looking for a practical yet trendy crossover vehicle!
    As far as interior goes, colourful trim aside, the interior of the T-Roc is nothing special! The Q2 is much better!
    Also, 2.0 liter petrol engine and 150hp? Where's the 1.5 TSI-Evo making that number? Somewhat wrong engine choice!
    I've also noticed with the T-Roc that VW is becoming like GM! Same platforms, same parts, but only the bodywork details and interior details change among the Group VAG companies!

  • @zorba2727

    The hard plastic on the Dashboard is a shame. Since the Golf 3 there is a soft touch
    Dashboard. Even worse, the Ateca and the Karoq share a much better Interieur build quality.
    I have waited months for this review (as always, well done Thomas, I even try to write in English
    the first time for years), but a NEW VW which is obviously more cost sensitivly designed then
    my Qashqai is definitly not for me...
    But on the other hand it's making decisions easier for me: when my company leasing ends, it
    will be a Skoda Karoq. Maybe Skoda is the better VW.

    • @f181234
      @f181234 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jan-Hendrik Müller the karoq is also hard plastic and the Seat Ateca too these cars are not luxury vehicles so they can be a bit cheap if you want luxury go for Audi

    • @jan-hendrikmuller2715
      @jan-hendrikmuller2715 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      f181234 AJ in the Ateca review and Thomas in the Karoq both said that it's soft. As for the Ateca I can definitely agree because I have tested it nearly one month ago.
      In the lower part, all (even the premium ones) are made of hard plastics, but for me it's all about the top of the Dashboard.

    • @f181234
      @f181234 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jan-Hendrik Müller still I doubt the average consumer will care if it's hard touch or not majority of people don't even touch it. For example if my parents were to buy a new car today they wouldn't care if it was hard plastic or soft they care more about the fuel efficiency

    • @jan-hendrikmuller2715
      @jan-hendrikmuller2715 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      f181234 oh God, my English... but let me try: The feeling is in fact not what is important for me.
      It is all about the rattling noises. I once had a Nissan Note with a Dashbord with Softtouch in front
      and Hardplastic on top. The Softtouch was calm and quiet, the Hard part was rattling
      ALL the time and, in winter times, it even starts to squeak. It took me one year to get rid of it, and
      I told everybody : don't buy a car with hard plastics when there is a similar priced car which has
      soft plastic... you know it's also that VW starts to get cheap in build quality, and when it is such an
      obvious thing that everybody can see and feel, what about the parts in your car that you don't?
      Are you sure, that they do not save up in those parts which are important let's say in safety or
      rustproofing, where the customer just can NOT see or feel it?
      Another example: the Renault Captur of my wife makes noises from it's hard plastic Dashboard
      all the time, what has Renault done in the last Facelift (without any force)? Yes you name it: they
      have soften it up and for Renault this is not cheaper then it would be for VW.
      In a car such as the all new Seat Arona, the future Skoda Fabia SUV or a future Polo SUV (T Cross),
      it would all be fine and o.k. because theses are cheaper cars which have to challenge with other
      cheap cars, but the T Cross is (VW Statement) a Golf SUV and you really do not want to compare
      a Golf VII "Update" as they call it with what we have seen in the T Cross videos from Thomas
      and Brian... and nobody would ever know, if they charge 200 Euro more and made a better car!

    The highest trim level is SEL in the UK. The VW website states that SEL trim has App-Connect as standard implying that this feature is supplied already enabled but yet the Optional Extra for this trim seems to require the purchase of an Activation Document to enable this feature to work. So what is the correct situation? Does anyone know?

    Styling is a mixed bag with elements of Tiguan, Q2 and Vauxhall Grandland. I like the dashboard design, much more adventurous than the Q2. Steering wheel design and seat fabric are dated and ugly.

  • @Luke-san
    @Luke-san 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Seems internal competition with the Q2. Why o why do manufacturers make so many different models? It must make things more expensive since the more you can produce from 1 specific model you don't have to invest in new machines, material and production lines. The new Polo looks really nice so why not make a Polo cross like they used to?

    The strong design language of the T-Roc reminds me of the original Tiguan's great promotional video (The promo' video with an orange Tiguan driving around the streets of a German city). I feel the new Tiguan looks a bit boring now, it's lost something. th-cam.com/video/w6qCiVyioW4/w-d-xo.html

    Keeping the price low? Come on Thomas with some kit the prize will go up to at least 28-30 k so not really cheap and with that hardplastics everywhere maybe a good priceperformance for VW for the coustomer? naaa dont think so

    i want to have this with 190hp and all wheel drive but 100% electric with 60kwh battery. vw always talk about some electric future car lines but i want to have this one in an electric version and not something that is electric and does not look like a car. the e-golf is nice but very expensive and does not have a 60kwh battery option.
    i really like this design but my next car is for sure 100% electric. in this area vw is sleeping like all the other german car manufacturers.

    Wow! For me, the T-Roc is better than the Audi Q2! Not the interior quality, but the style! Well done Volkswagen and thanks Autogefühl for the video! ;)

    Was going to buy the Tiguan, until they sent the mini-van version to North America instead of the original European smaller version. I'll get the Ford Edge instead.

    Thomas, On the 17 reg latest Tiguan they have changed the info-tainment screen to an all glass one and got rid of the knobs either side, which in turn makes the screen a bit larger.
    Do you think the T-ROC will be changed to this when it hits the showrooms ?

    Audi and VW are holding hands whilst heading down the drain. I mean, they need to segregate these two segments. Now I don't feel like owning an Audi cos its just a posher version of a boring VW.

    Thanks for a very detailed preview, Thomas. The T-Roc is OK I suppose but, to my eyes, isn't especially inspired. Also I am still struggling with the way that VW treat their customers with total disdain. I'm much more looking forward to your preview of the Volvo XC40 in October. That looks much more interesting. Also the Tesla model 3. Thank you again Thomas.

    Looks better than Audi Q2 I think. Clincher that will attract buyers is the color choices with the well designed/dash interior. I don't see any problem wiping off dirt/debris with the plastic flat top dash.
    Fake exhaust.. again?, what the heck when all vehicles go electric or hydrogen it'll be the end of mufflers anyway.
    Great video and review Thomas.
