Jet Tengu's main advantage is their strength in numbers. Since Jet Tengus never need to reload to Airbase or have the hangar limit of other anti-air aircrafts.
Apollos with the upgrade will dominate any competition. However the MIGs' missiles have blast radius, so large scale air2air battles where targets are clustered together lend the advantage back to them.
but Apollo has another big drawback: all Alliance planes require space. Because of this, they are often not enough. For the Soviets, in this regard, only MiGs occupy space at airfields.
One small cool factor is how during WW2 where the air force was operated pretty much as a separate entity, Japanese aircraft were either the property of the IJA or IJN (called IJAAS or IJNAS respectively). In that sense, Red Alert 3 the Japanese cannot make airfields but their aircraft either comes from the War Factory (IJA) or from the Dockyards (IJN) and can transform into aircraft from there.
Okay, let me summarise. Apollo Fighter: + Advanced Aeronautics + Best General Armor and Health + Highest Ammo Capacity + Best against Light Air ~ Fastest ~ 1v1 Aptitude - Struggles against heavy armour - Has Ammo at all - Less effective in numbers MiG: + Really good against high armour/high health + Can deal splash damage + Very good en-masse ~ Slower than Apollo - Not a 1v1 fighter - Has Ammo at all, lowest at that - Weakest armour/health Jet Tengu: + Limitless + Can transform to a ground unit + Has the most armour (against ground weapons at least) + Cheapest at 800 ~ Most Average on all Damage ~ Slowest - Cannot 1v1 the other two - Weakest air-air armour and general health In the end, Mecha Tengu really win as you can just make more of them all the time. Apollo Fighters will shred air and win most of the time, but Tengu transform. MiGs are just neat hammers that do the job they're supposed to.
Mecha Tengu is the weakest but most strategic due to its ease of production and endless ammunition. The last thing you want is to run out of ammo trying to down a Giga Fortress and watch as it decimates your base with 1% Hp because your fighters need to reload. Plus their firepower against air is actually quite good.
Apollo fighter: overall the best due to their effectiveness vs other air superiority fighters and their higher health pools, but lack against bigger things Mig fighters: a good heavy aircraft killer that can also decimate groups of smaller aircraft if stacked properly due to the splash damage of their rockets Jet tengu: overall the weakest of the 3, mainly due to the fact that they don't need to reload and there is no limit to the number produced they can also turn into an anti-infantry unit that is again the weakest of the 3
@Daniel von Strangle whilst I said that tengus were the weakest of the 3, I never said they were bad Yes, an apollo might do less damage against big targets, it's the fact that it beats the other 2 in air superiority that makes it the best, as it makes it safer for the other air units
@Daniel von Strangle Migs seem to win out when in numbers though. Something about the math works out in their favor against large targets when in a group and the aoe deals with other groups of aircraft better than groups of apollo fighters do. from that pov they aren't dissapointing at all. especially if your opponent isn't super good with their micro. Shame they didn't test that in the video.
@@drzero1131 that changes if Advanced Aeronotics was involved but sadly not here in this video, cuz you can beat down a giga with 4 apollos w/ advanced aeronotics upgrade i know that much
And we shouldn't forget one important factor and that's the fact Tengus cost LESS than the other interceptors : for the price of 4 Mig, you get 5 Tengus. they have more HP, and dps than their counterparts, they're also better against other-types of units than just planes AND they cost less. How the heck could these be considered "weakest", please do tell cause I don't see
Apollo: Best at shooting down other flying AA units. Is also the fastest which helps with catching pursuing enemies. Mig: The best at shooting down bombers quickly. It also the most vulnerable since it has the least health and the Soviet airfield doesn't repair aircraft like the Allied airbase and Imperial Mecha Bay. Both fighters can use their Return to Base ability for a speed boost to get out of danger or to catch a fleeing enemy that happens to moving in the direct of their airbase. Tengu: The most durable (unless the Apollo benefits from Advance Aeronautics) but worst engaging the others and the slowest. As Mecha Bays can't be built on water this also means you can only build Tengus on land, though most games are focused on land anyways given a number of AA units can only be built on land. The Emprie is especially vulnerable since its AA sea unit isn't available until Tier 2. Being the cheapest and having no limit on the number you can build does mean it can overwhelm them with sheer numbers, but if you are investing a disproportionate amount of resources in Tengus then your opponent will probably exploit that weakness by responding with ground units. Being able to transform between modes gives the Tengu greater versatility since shooting down air units is all the other fighters are good for. Tengus can be used to attack Ore Miners or to harass other early game units, plus going into mecha mode means they can fight back against AA infantry unlike the other fighters who have to turn. In an amusing irony the Jet Tengu is the best counter to the Giga Fortress in Sky Fortress Mode since they don't run out of ammo.
Huh I didn't think tengu would do this well. Thought the migs'd do the best, but they're only good for heavily armored stuff, and there's not that many armored air units.
As I remember, Advance Aeronatic upgrade just add them more magazine and durability. But the damage remain the same. So yeah, not so much different I guess.
Mecha tengu is the only unit without ammo reload and its great movement of being able to move on the ground and water The apollo is the shreder of air units and the mig is great against helicopters or undefended bombers
I know they are mostly meant to be used in Chooper mode, but Striker-VXs are really disappointing compared to other anti-air units. So the results in the fighters comparison is: Apollos are the tough ones, Migs are the ones that hit the hardest, and Tengus are the overwhelming ones.
Love the addition of the price and build time at the start. I know most of the time they're the same but wouldn't hurt to include it anyway. And maybe compare ability cooldown too when they matter.
So in a straight dogfight, Mecha Tengus are generally weak. But considering you can build as many Tengus as you like, I think Tengus can win in air superiority matches. But yes, I was leaning on Apollo Fighters... 😂😂😂
Yeah for me they are the best, they are the most versatile of the 3 jets, They might not be fast and outgunned when battling their enemy peers, but they still pack a punch, you can mass produce them, are Anti-air and ground attackers, they dont have to constantly resupply ammo and in case of events they are losing a AA dogfight or ground battle switch to mecha mode/ jet mode, good harassers
The Tengus are really good. In all of the higher tier replays I've seen, in every Empire match, they'll get built. Apollos and Migs often don't get built, and when they do, they're only used for a part of the game, and I often see them get overwhelmed by masses of Tengus.
