Weird top 10, why are these the top 10 in your opinion? Even at the low price range it's hard to argue some of these belonging to any top 10 if you know about all (or even a bit more of) the available lenses. For example, some of the Sigma ART lenses should be here for sure. Sigma 18-35 mm ART is designed for APS-C and it's very sharp and fast with a fixed 1.8 aperture. Also, you included two 85 mm lenses, one being cheaper and with a bigger max aperture, and you're recommending it as an alternative to the more expensive and 2/3 stop (you said full stop) smaller aperture without even mentioning that the Samyang has no auto focus. I'd be pissed if I just blindly followed your recommendation and realised after the fact that it has no auto focus. People, always be critical when looking at these top 10 recommendations!
A couple of things, firstly if you put an EF 50mm lens on 80D or any crop sensor camera, it'll give you an 80mm focal length due to the 1.6x crop factor, focal length on EF lens are what you'd get with a full frame (35mm equivalent) camera. Second, the 10-18mm may be a little sharper than the 10-22mm, but the 10-18mm does suffer from flaring and ghosting of light sources, the 10-22mm does not suffer from the same infliction. I own both lens so I can attest to that fact.
Great list, thanks!! One I'd add is the Sigma 30mm f/1.4. Makes a better prime even than the 50 as it gives you room to move in while maintaining a wider frame, and the picture is even crisper! One downside compared to the 50 is a bit more focal noise.
my top lenses for 80D: sigma 18-35mm 1.8 (or) sigma 17-70mm 2.8-4 - Travel, daily use, video etc Sigma 16mm 1.4 (or) Samyang 10mm 2.8 - Astrophotography/landscape 50mm 1.4 (or) 1.8 - Nifty fifty is just barebones essential. Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS USM (or) Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 (or) Canon 55-250mm STM - Sports, wildlife etc. Aside from these, I'd say others are additions, but try to go for 3 or 4 good lenses at most, should be enough and perect for a travel rucksack like lowepro etc. Always remember, your lens is the most important part of your gear so get quality. if you can't; just wait patiently and save for it.
Rather than give yourself so much headache, buy the following lenses. It will cover virtually all the length you want. 1. Tokina 11-16mm F2.8 (It is very wide and fast coming with F2.8 apperture opening as opposed to the F3.5 of Canon 2. Sigma 18-35 F1.8(With this, I am not sure you need to buy the 24mm pan cake or lenses in the range 18 to 35mm as well as considering the very fast 1.8 aperture opening. 3. Canon 50mm F1.8 (Must have) 4. Then get a Zoom to finalize your lens needs. You dont need a bunch of lens.
Easy yoke Films this comment makes a lot of sense to me. I currently have the 10-18, 50mm 1.8. I’ll end up getting the 55-250 when I need it. Sounds like the lens I should be saving for is the sigma 18-35. How does the 18-35 compare to the sigma 17-50 f2.8?
I have the Sigma 17-70mm 2.8-4 DC Macro HSM OS Contemporary as my always-on walkaround lens. I love it! Good focal range, pretty sharp, a relatively wide (although variable) aperture and it's has pretty good build quality too.
ive heard a lot of stories about the auto focusing being horrible with the 80d, but others say it’s extremely sharp, i guess you either get lucky with your lens or not, hit or miss
The 50mm 1.8, 17-55 and any of the kits lens are fine for beginners or hobbyists but if you want to get a better bang for your buck and utilize the 80D to its fullest potential you need to spend the $$ on quality lens. I have the 80D and have it paired with the Sigma 18-35 1.8 -- great for portraits, family shoots, landscape and nightscapes. Amazing lens, great build, super sharp and great bokeh. Well worth the money IMO. Once released later this year I will be looking at adding the new Sigma 70-200 2.8 Sport to my collection to give me that reach that the 18-35 lacks.
In my personal opinion on these lenses you list here i feel as if the 55-250 lens should be a 70-300 for a good telephoto lens, another lens that be swapped out is the 10-18mm lens because you have the 10-22mm lens and it give a better quality in it sharpness for Photography and Videography.
For landscape shooters (i.e. not requiring fast apertures), consider Canon's "kit-trinity" zooms (10-18, 18-55, 55-250 STM). Coverage from 16-400 in FF equiv. Can't get more affordable than this.
I would actually recommend primed lenses for beginners, since it "forces" them to get more creative with the settings and perspectives, foregoing the option of zooming.
I recently picked a Canon 80D roughly 6 or 7 months ago. So my question is, would picking up some L-lenses from canon be a good idea? Because I do plan to upgrade to the Canon 5D mark 4
You're really awesome man, that was very informative and your voice was soothing, relaxed. Many youtubers are ultra-high energy, often too high energy especially after a long day of shopping and watching tech reviews. You were a great breath of fresh air, and provided usable info, yet didn't drone on. straight to the point. RESPECT. Keep on keepin' on, brother, thanks for the info and that link.
I am about to buy the 80D. My biggest question, of many that is, is which lens to start out with. Sounds like the 18-135 will be my choice. Thanks for info!
Bought the 80D with the 18-135 USM nano the other day. It's my first DSRL, so I don't have a lot to compare it to, William. But overall I've been able to get a nice range of shots. However, it's also shown me that I need more lenses, hence why I'm watching this! :)
I'm planning on buying Canon 80D, and I am looking for a zoom lens around 24-105mm. I prefer L series, but all of the lenses are quite expensive, so other lenses are fine. I'm a beginner. What lens would most likely the best?
I would use it towards one on these lenses!! (Not sure which one yet though - maybe the fish eye). I'm getting the 80d this month and already own the 50mm lens.
Great video but I wish you put in that all these focal lengths and apertures are multiplied by 1.6 because it is a crop sensor. Just to inform all the people that don't know about this sort of thing.
Canon 650d and Canon 80d bodies, Samyang 8mm fisheye, efs 10-18mm is STM, 24mm pancake, ef 50mm 1.4 USM, efs 50mm 1.8 STM, 15-85mm is USM, efs 55-250mm is f4-5.6 STM, ef 75-300 4-5.6 is USM, Canon fd 500mm f8 reflex/mirror and a Optika 650-1350mm f8-16 for pictures of the moon. Canon Speedlight ex 550 and 430 with diffusers, three bags and a Benbo tripod, remotes and Canon RS-60E3 cable release, filters etc.. Pretty much what you have on your list, I'd like the 85 prime, I'll probably get that soon, ha ha.
Hi I have canon 50 mm1.8 and going to get 70-300 IS USM II LENSE FOR MY CANON 80D. Is it worth buying 18-135 USM along with these two lenses to pair with. Please suggestions?? Thanks Bibin
Hi Bibin, I would recommend getting 18-135 (amzn.to/2HrzudI) because you get the wider focal lengths that you are lacking right now. If you want to save some money, you could also go for an 18-55 (amzn.to/2BCCXWt) because that's really all the focal length you're missing.
When you published this video, Canon had already released the EF 50mm prime, f/1.8 STM. The new nifty-fifty! Covers all the drawbacks of the old 50mm prime that you have shown here!!
I'm not big on "best" lists as everyone's needs are different. With that said a "recommended" list would be helpful. This is a weird list. I certainly wouldn't have put the 55-250 on it, and there are others on the list that aren't very versatile. My number 1 walk around lens for my 3 Canon bodies is the 15-85 and everyone that I've suggested this lens to are thrilled with it.
I think the 50 f1.8 STM is better vs the 50 f1.8 mk 2. I had the 50 f1.4. This is a sharp lens though there are many copies that are soft or some other issues. The AF clutch is also flimsy. It can break if you put too much pressure on the lens barrel. The 50 f1.8 mk2's AF is slow and noisy (not good for video) and has veiling flaire. Bokeh is not as great and specular highlights tend to represent the 5-blades aperture. But it is a sharp and cheap lens in its time (U$69). But to avoid problems and reduce flare get better bokeh, go for the 50 f1.8 stm. I have a good copy of the 10-22. I would not trade it for the 10-18. Faster lens, more range, and sharp. No IS though, but with wide, that is hardly needed. IF I were budget constrained, I'd go for the 10-18, but if I am not or there is a good cheaper used copy, the 10-35 is better.
No Sigma 18-35/1.8? Also, the Canon 17-55/f2.8 is way overpriced. For less than half you can get the Sigma 17-50/f2.8 DC EX HSM; same image quality, but much better value.
uscfroadie I would always buy a canon lens over a sigma, difference in sharpness or bokeh doesn’t really matter in the real world, I wanna stay away from sigma’s focusing issues
the canon efs 10-18 mm is beter than the canon efs 10-22. becouse it is cheaper but stil sharper. also it hase image stabilaser for photo's and video's without shake
Justus Govaert Only my opinion but I own both and don't find either to be significantly better than the other. With my copies i find the 10-22 is a bit sharper across the frame and has that extra range, but sometimes i need the IS or want to focus closer so i go for the 10-18 and it's plenty sharp enough. I decide which one to use depending on the job I'm doing but generally the 10-18 lives with my 80D in the video kit and the 10-22 with the 7DMkII in my photo kit. They are both very good lenses for crops. For me it comes down to personal choice rather one being all round better. If you're on a budget you won't be disappointed with the 10-18 but you will probably be swapping lenses more.
my go to lens on my 700d has always been the 10-22mm compared to the 10-18, the 10-22 is of a better build quality and a lot tougher to break, the quality of the len is certainly a lot better in images and videos as long as you have decent stabilisation in video most of the time is really good video output but if you move around all the time then maybe not as much BUT!! with ultrawide angles as low as 10mm you can pretty much edit out the unstable bids in post.
Thank you so much for your detailed video. It was more than helpful. I just recently purchased the 80D from my 70D and so far I'm in love. I have a kit lens, 70-200, and 50mm f 2.8. I am definitely going to look further into the lenses you mentioned. That being said, I would spend the 25$ on whatever equipment upgrade I am looking into at the moment. Whether that be a new lens, or simply a new memory card, I would definitely make use of the Amazon card! 😊
Pro tip save your money and buy an L lens, its a game changer and a 24-70 either f2.8 you literally would have no need for any of the lens's he has listed and quality is so much better.
great video! you've included so much info in such a short amount of time and I appreciate that. if I could maybe suggest adding pictures of what each lens can do that would be awesome. I'm totally new to this and I'm gathering as much info as I can. I really liked that you included prices in the video. seems other TH-camrs forget to add that important part. great job! excited n motivated to start! and if I won the amazon card I'd put it towards 1 of the lens in this video. thanks again and much success!
In the comments of your recommended lenses you say that you got the 18-135mm USM in a kit with the 80D. I thought that the 18-135 mm lens that comes in the 80D kit is a STM (not USM) lens. Actually, I believe that all the lenses that come in a kit with the 80D are STM lenses.
I am receiving the Canon 80D for a Anniversary gift on the 14th from my awesome husband. I would spend the card toward a shoulder strap for my new camera.
Very recently i purchased 90D with only a nifty 50 f/1.8.. but the sensor is 1.6x crop sensor.. will it take sharp pics on 24-105mm f/4 IS II USM ? Im Planning to buy it ...bt im confused..
I'm new to DSLR cameras so this may be a very basic question but can you get an external battery bank that you connect to it while its in use like you could a phone? so as to give it extra running time in the case of filming or time lapse?
Yes, you can get what are called dummy batteries to plug the camera to external power: amzn.to/2mqORsR There are also generic LPE6 batteries are big enough to record for about 4 hours and they are really cheap: amzn.to/2klO4LB
hi, I want to know that, do your 80D have the same issue as mine. My 80D 's grip feel so creppy, it feel not soild, feel like is may break, and some noise sound when you grip is harder. especially when you mount a heavy lens.
Great review, thanks - helping me make the decision which why to go between staying with Canon after 40D to get video or move to G80 Panasonic. I'd value the voucher to help buy kit/accessories.
I have 70D + Canon 70-200 F2.8 IS II and it looks like quite often it misses the focusing at 2.8. Not sure whether there is a problem in my lens or maybe this lens is not good for APS-C body but are there any tricks to improve focusing with this couple? I really like this constant f2.8 but its focusing is not as good and sometimes as fast as my canon 55-250 STM lens.

What about the canon 16-35 and the 24-70 a lady a yard sale letting them go for 25 bucks a piece and they look damn near brand New should i buy them

Sigma 18-35mm has had issues with some 80ds

@@jotabe1984 It's his opinion and it's pretty good. Everyone has one. You can have your opinion too! Just post it.
my new sigma 50-100mm f1.8 just came in and its the best lens i ever used on my 80D. its just increddible
A couple of things, firstly if you put an EF 50mm lens on 80D or any crop sensor camera, it'll give you an 80mm focal length due to the 1.6x crop factor, focal length on EF lens are what you'd get with a full frame (35mm equivalent) camera. I have added the Tamron 16-300mm to my kit, and it is an awesome lens for the 70D & 80D
my top lenses for 80D:
sigma 18-35mm 1.8 (or) sigma 17-70mm 2.8-4 - Travel, daily use, video etc
Sigma 16mm 1.4 (or) Samyang 10mm 2.8 - Astrophotography/landscape

Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS USM (or) Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 (or) Canon 55-250mm STM - Sports, wildlife etc.

As for Canon 17-55 f2.8 how about Sigma 17-50 f2.8? Or maybe Sigma AF 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM ?
Loved the video, but would’ve loved to see examples of the photo quality and video while explaining the lense
i run the efs 18-135mm, 50mm 1.8, efs 55-250mm. saving my monies for the efs 10-18 and an efs macro.
I'd take the 35mm F2 is instead of the 50mm f1.4 for a crop sensor
In your knowledge, do we have a 50mm f/1.8 in aps-c version?? I simply can't get it searching on Amazon or Canon site..
@@Abhinandanabhi1212 no, but there's no reason to, the ef 50mm f/1.8 is $125 even at Best buy so just go grab one is great
which lence is good for wildlife photography
55-250 for a low budget
very nice and insightful for the beginners
No Sigma 18-35/1.8? Also, the Canon 17-55/f2.8 is way overpriced. For less than half you can get the Sigma 17-50/f2.8 DC EX HSM; same image quality, but much better value.
uscfroadie I would always buy a canon lens over a sigma, difference in sharpness or bokeh doesn’t really matter in the real world, I wanna stay away from sigma’s focusing issues
what lens should i use for group photography on canon 80 d
Have you ever heart of the Sigma 18-35 f1.8?
which one l'anse best with canon 80d
Dear Sir, I need your advice to choose a dslr camera for a professional work for TV, but my budget not more than 1000 USD
I think canon EFS 50mm prime lens is ever best overall
the canon efs 10-18 mm is beter than the canon efs 10-22. becouse it is cheaper but stil sharper. also it hase image stabilaser for photo's and video's without shake
Plus the 10-18mm is stm and makes no noise unlike the usm 10-22mm. It's a great lens I agree, although IS isn't a problem at these focal ranges.
i tested both of them but i think the 10-22 is a bit sharper
10-22 is bit sharper on wide end. I like 10-18 better, smaller, lighter, IS, very smooth zoom ring and fast AF..
my go to lens on my 700d has always been the 10-22mm compared to the 10-18, the 10-22 is of a better build quality and a lot tougher to break, the quality of the len is certainly a lot better in images and videos as long as you have decent stabilisation in video most of the time is really good video output but if you move around all the time then maybe not as much BUT!! with ultrawide angles as low as 10mm you can pretty much edit out the unstable bids in post.
Which macro lens is capatable for 80d?
The 24mm E-FS is great. Plus it's a macro! Love it on my 80D. I also have the 50mm 1.8 and the kit 18-135 usm. Good recommendations.
The 18-135 is a very good lens right
Great Video🤗, But just wondering why did you not mention any of the sigma lenses?🤔
I personally like Canon EFS 10-18mm with this camera because of IS system and 24-105mm, perfect combination.
Yes, you are correct. That was my mistake.
I believe there are two versions of the 18-135 STM and the newer one comes with the 80D.
I'm always looking for lens comparison for my canon...
This was an interesting comparison by the way way man.
Keep them coming..!
So which vloging lens do you think is best? I need that gift card to start saving up for a new lens!
Is it weather protected?
I am receiving the Canon 80D for a Anniversary gift on the 14th from my awesome husband. I would spend the card toward a shoulder strap for my new camera.
I wish to purchase a lens hood for my kit lens, I am just starting out and wanting to get into photography/videography
I want to buy the 16-35 wide angle lens and i want the 85 prime lens and i want the 24-70 and the 70-200 all from Canon so tell me what you think?
I'm looking for the ultra wide angle lens...and try to get more inform about lens
Very recently i purchased 90D with only a nifty 50 f/1.8.. but the sensor is 1.6x crop sensor.. will it take sharp pics on 24-105mm f/4 IS II USM ? Im Planning to buy it ...bt im confused..
great detailed information about the lenses for canon 80D. thank you!
I would use this lens for the landscape photos
Why did you removed the 1st one ?
I'm new to DSLR cameras so this may be a very basic question but can you get an external battery bank that you connect to it while its in use like you could a phone? so as to give it extra running time in the case of filming or time lapse?
Yes, you can get what are called dummy batteries to plug the camera to external power: amzn.to/2mqORsR
There are also generic LPE6 batteries are big enough to record for about 4 hours and they are really cheap: amzn.to/2klO4LB
Can we use 70_200 mm f2.8 lens on canon 80d
In my experience the 10-18 is amazingly sharp!
Do these fit the 90 d
hi, I want to know that, do your 80D have the same issue as mine.
My 80D 's grip feel so creppy, it feel not soild, feel like is may break, and some noise sound when you grip is harder.
especially when you mount a heavy lens.
thank you for one of the best guideline sir
Great review, thanks - helping me make the decision which why to go between staying with Canon after 40D to get video or move to G80 Panasonic. I'd value the voucher to help buy kit/accessories.
what? two 85s? and two variable apperture ultra wide? but only one mid range? what kind of mix is that?
I have 70D + Canon 70-200 F2.8 IS II and it looks like quite often it misses the focusing at 2.8. Not sure whether there is a problem in my lens or maybe this lens is not good for APS-C body but are there any tricks to improve focusing with this couple? I really like this constant f2.8 but its focusing is not as good and sometimes as fast as my canon 55-250 STM lens.
Canon EF 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6 II USM or Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM or 70-200 f/4l which is good for canon 80 D ?
have to buy lens filter and whood for my canon 80D lens 18-135 EFs
I would buy a charcoal gray muslin backdrop (wanna try out portraits/headshots on a budget).
