rope jumped off the wheel. Valuable lesson...keep your rope taught!! Same thing happened to me ringing the tenor to a peal in my home tower. 20 mins in an the rope jumped off the wheel and the sally stayed there. Got it under control eventually ....Everyone else rang 5040 changes....the tenor rang 5050...!!
If that happened you peal was false. I had one set up last year because a bell dropped...it was only out of control for 6 blows but it struck twice in the same row.
That last "of f*ck" bit made me smile but well recovered! Churches should rent their towers out and advertise them as gyms. £15 per month to go and learn how to bell ring has got to be a lot more fun than going to the gym.
I thought that too when I first saw this video. Maybe they did intend to have more bells hung there when they had that one put in but ran out of money who knows 🤷♀️but it would be interesting to find out though
That was the best GTFU I've seen :-) I'm just starting to learn and it's amazing how it makes you feel to ring :-) I've started on the tenor at St lawrence in Ansley and they've yet to teach us hoe to ring the bell up :-D I'm looking forward to it though :-)
Last Christmas Eve I was pulling the bell which is a Rumsey & Co no 33 and the bell wheel rubs the stand frame. They were support rods to keep the big a shaped frames straight but they have pulled loose. Anyway the wheel is cast iron and the a frame is also. Its rusts and the wheel causes the bell to stick when it is pulled. The rope was old and it snapped while I was pulling with both hands trying to get the bell out of its bind. When it snapped, my still grasping hands hit my nose and nearly broke it and I was knocked to the floor on my back with my legs up in the air. My head nearly missed a church pew when I fell back.
Furthermore, I would like to add that the bell, as well as being renowned for being uneasy to ring, has not been rung full circle for many years. The "Fighting" you see is called "checking", my desperate attempt to get the clapper to strike the leading edge of the bell, as opposed to the following edge. unfortunately my efforts were in vain. Like I said. Come and ring here and show it who's boss.
I'm from the uk. Pure welsh. I ring the bell in our local church in Llanidloes. I got to admit I have only been ringing for 3 to 4 months. So on my behalf I am sorry. She does look like a heavy bell, what weight is she? Yea would love to have a go ringing that bell but I am still learning to raise and lowering the bell. I can ring when the bell is raised and do rounds and call changes. If you let me know where you are in the uk and if I am ever around your area I would be happy to ring. Rhys
well said sir, I will second that, and oh dear, was it really that obvious? showed it my mum before the upload, along with others, and you're the first to notice. Towers like this really are the best optiong for your "idea" ;) how's things any how?
Is it common to ring the bells manually in GB? In Denmark, the practice was outlawed about ten years ago due to work place safety regulations. Now all bells are rung using remotes.
Why are you shooting a porn film? SIR - with all due respect, from your comment I can tell straight away you're either not from the UK, are not a change ringer, or are a European noise maker when it comes to ringing. I invite you to ring at this tower to face the difficulties I faced regarding the new chiming hammer and the plain bearings.
that rope was amost going to brack you have to be careful of that rope because if that brack it will go in its own and they will ranout of ropes and its stuck for now and its close for now in 25,463,53,6475 years
Got to admit. In that video you don't ring a bell like that, that is all wrong. They make it look like there fighting with it and no control what so ever. Someone with get hurt sorry to say. Be smooth with her, show her who's boss.
....and it was up on the wrong side...... and at 6:38 if you had pulled the hand stroke it wouldn't have slipped the wheel...other than that it was fine...lol

You don’t pay to learn bell ringing it’s a volunteer job
Lots of room for more bells!!!
It's odd how its the only bell in the tower and that it is 23 hundredweight and it sounds fantastic!

My grand father when I was small he learned me how to ring the bell at Lebanon and now he’s dead
Never knew this was such hard work. I rang 3 ton 'Conrad' for years, and he was a dream to ring. This bell is much lighter.
Where is Conrad?
Lovely bell - Rob has muscles! Scary moment when it stops dead though...
Love it!
Great video!
greetings from The Netherlands!!

Drobium77 I should know but I don’t know what GTFU means what does it mean? 😂
It means get the fuckers up
it actually does, hehe - its meant to refer to bells which are heavy, such as tenors, and often, ones that can't be rung up right
Damn, How old that bell must have been sitting there... There probably used to be other bells there.

I’m planning on ringing there when Covid is over what’s it like to ring please mate?
I don't think they ring it it's probably stuck

Nice sound in the slow-motion!!!
6:41 i could see a split second, there certainly was something loose going on there.
Superb bell!! Nice video too :-)
Sorry about that, I preffered standing where I was rather than the wobbly floor boards.
The Tone is between es1 and e1 so i think its es1 +140,4
...... 100 tonnes? I think that needs revising.
Bodger Bell Ringer think he is joking because a tower would probably fall down in a 100 tone (like 2200cwt) bell was ringing full circle!!! 😂😂😂

The bell went up wrong

It is
The way we ring actually requires that they be hand-rung.
That is really sad. Bells have been rung by hand for many hundreds of years. An old Christian tradition which should continue.
Is this bell unringable now?
No I don’t think so
@@ringerowen4039 i think it is i asked them if i can go ring it and they said its broken apparently so i think its unsafe to ring
It’s double striking
WE KNOW!
That’s because it’s up wrong. Chill Fred. But yes, try not to state the obvious.
@@kiwibellringer9729 alright sorry I’m only a beginner I’m obviously gonna state obvious things
@@ringerowen4039 I don’t think you need to worry after a year mate 😂

what is the weight and not of this bell?

Hmmph...that's my rope on there you're wrecking!.....Think its time I paid a visit to take it off if its that hard work.
What do you mean?
No you don’t I think you’ll find you don’t own the rope whoever owns the tower and bell does

That is why he looked so worried when it acted mad at 6'40'' :)

6:41 rope slipped
The bell is tuned right?
hohoho taylors in 1876 23-2-4cwts

The rope got jammed for a few seconds
He didn’t put enough pull and it slipwheeled
