  • How to restart a dead laptop battery BMS due to loss of power to the chip. This is an excerpt of my full video on successfully replacing the 18650 cells of my Lenovo laptop battery. That video will come up shortly. The battery shown in the video is for a Lenovo G510 but this trick has been demostrated on many different types of laptop batteries with successful restart of the battery management system board.

    Thanks! Saved me! I was about to throw away a new BMS thinking it was broken (all the connections had the right voltage except the output pins). For the people who didn't notice, you have to connect the B+ to the P+ for about 3-4 seconds (no sparks in my case).

      Unfortunately, not all manufacturers allow the bms to be revived. There are some videos online about shorting some reset points on the board, you'll have to search for them based on your battery brand. If your battery has an aftermarket version (or just the bms) on ebay for cheap, you could try that. Just make sure you don't spend more than/or close enough to a new battery for your laptop.

    Nice tip. But bro with ur fingers in the middle i couldn't see where u were touching near/on the pcb board. I'm new to all this. My laptop battery is not charging. I opened the battery power pack. With the help of TH-cam. Out of 6 batteries inside 4 were reading 3.60v and 2 were 1.45v. After doing hack on those two batteries it showed 2.40v each on both batteries.
    After putting back on laptop still not charging... Shows 58%. If i unplug the charger the Ltop shuts down.
    I don't know what to do.
    So what must be the voltage of single cell 🔋 to put inside the battery pack if i want to buy a new one?

    i have made a lifepo4 battery pack of 7p, 24s. with dedicated lifepo4 24s bms of 50Amp capacity.
    all connection are done correctly like -
    B- to battery negative
    C- to charge negative
    P- to negative of controller
    The bike goes on, the bike display is on and going and all the sensors with horn & indicator are active.
    But as soon as i pull the accelerator, the system goes down.
    What you think? should i pull out the BMS for its wiring and soldering checkups?
    coz the battery i fixed was connected accurately.

      Ok diy roby.... im listning.

But yes my problem is the same as the comment above, it only shows the voltage on battery connector when i KEEP that wire CONNECTED if i just jumpstart it and check the voltage it shows 0.9-8-7-6 and then to 0.
      So should i keep it connected like solder it and keep an eye on the time i keep it plugged it in or so? Like usually this dell laptop battery charges in 1 hour or so. So if i keep it under 30 mins charged up will it work? I know im taking a risk but still i need my battery to work. Thanks in adv.

    • @diyroby732
      @diyroby732  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is just no way to keep an eye on it. 18650 cell BMS reduces/increases the charging current based on the charge capacity. It is advanced calculations we just can't do. Don't forget that the BMS actually charges single banks of cell pairs individually, not all of them at the same time. For me this trick worked on a Lenovo battery, but Dell probably has a way to brick the whole battery once it detects a recell attempt. Charging without the BMS is a sure way to start a fire and that means your whole laptop might burn down. Because of this reason, I just can't recommend you do this. The only real option to using your batteries is to make some sort of external powerbank like this guy did with a powertool battery th-cam.com/video/k_2tZrYf7tQ/w-d-xo.html

      Hello, i have problem too. My battery could hold for 2-3 hours, but i've removed it cuz i wanted to reset bios and after that i've notice that my laptops turns off after few minutes on battery. The battery was fully charged, but laptop turns off. Right now my laptop cannot turn on on battery at all. And when i've meassured my + pin there is no voltage at all. If i measure my batteries from both sides there is 12.5 voltage. My laptop is x541sc ... I've bough second-hand battery like mine, but it's the same. No voltage from + pin. Is my BMS locked cuz i've removed my battery from the laptop or something like that? How we fix this? I've tried with positive to positive, but didn't work.

      @@OldboyWOW Hi,
      It is possible that the fuse on the BMS is blown. Hence no voltage coming through or via the BMS. 🤔😕
      I had this issue for a laptop battery from ASUS K53E. I replaced the fuse with a low ohm resistor & now voltage is flowing through the BMS. 🙄
      Best Regards,

    Even after this it's showing wrong capacity anyway to reset the battery capacity I tried everything nothing works in bios setup the battery backup is good but in os it's 15 min I replaced the battery recently with new one?

    • @diyroby732
      @diyroby732  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1. Maybe your system is not allowing you to benefit from new capacity after replacing the cells
      2. Maybe in reality, your new cells are not really original or a high capacity cell.
      To reset the battery capacity, disable the battery manager in Device manager and then allow the computer to run on battery till it actually dies. If it dies before, then try leaving the computer on in the bios overnight to completely drain the battery till it shots down.
      Then charge the laptop and read the new value.
      Here is a video I made about it th-cam.com/video/iYMnDykddyo/w-d-xo.html

      Probably. Mine is a Lenovo, while the repair worked, the bms is trolling me with 10+ hours recharge times for a sub 50wh battery. These manufacturers don't want us repairing stuff.

    Any advice on how to keep the BMS powered while replacing the cells?

    • @diyroby732
      @diyroby732  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I heard you have to keep supplying the same voltage the battery gives. Wiring it in parallel so when you disconnect the old battery, power remains from the other source.

      you may have to drill a small hole on the top of the battery case so a wire can touch the internal positive of the battery pack. Then you bridge with the external positive. Check your specific battery brand for wiring diagram.
