Xerjoff 40 Knots is a spectacular fragrance. I loved it instantly. My favourite fragrance houses from last year were Zaharoff, Xerjoff and Aaron Terence Hughes, closely followed by Amouage, Tom Ford, Argos, PdM, Kilian, Sora Dora, Soma Parfums, Nishane, MFK and Initio.
I just got 40 Knots today. I absolutely agree, the first spray didn’t really do anything for me, but the dry down is really great. I am getting whiffs of it and it’s really pleasant

My most reached for house in any year is Dior. I wear Dior Homme as my daytime scent in most seasons. Add in Dior Homme Intense and Parfum in cool weather, Dior Vetiver in Spring, Santal Noir, Ambre Nuit and Eau Noire it just happens to be the top house. That said, for niche, it’s likely Roja Dove or Xerjoff.
40 Knots was the one I decided to cash in on during Black Friday and no regrets!! I was choosing between More Than Words and 40 Knots but decided to go with the latter. Its amazing, I love it! You're gonna have so much fun in Milan! I hope over the next couple of years, I can do the same and get myself over to these fragrance events to experience them in person! You're awesome, my friend!

YESSS!! 40 Knots! I really love that fragrance! Maybe its not the most beloved one, but its so delicious and a hidden gem. My favourits from this house are : Luxor, Naxos(of course!) Starlight, Don, Commandante and the exquiste Torino 21. I did not have the chance to get my nose on Torino 22. Toni Iommi Is one of the best patchouli scents I know ( exept Nasomattos Hindu grass, wich is dicontinued. You really shoud try to get a sniff on this!!). Goldfield and Banks was my discovery in 2022! I really loved Pacific rock moss and Sunset hour. Desert rosewood is a big hit now, as its getting cold here and I need a warm scent to wear in my job, thats not too overwhelming. I am a chef so I am familiar with fingerlimes as a fruit, and bohemian limes captured the smell perfectly, but it sadly didnt last on me for more than 2 hours.
40 knots is a banger ! performs insanely, and for my nose and my taste I would wear it in a colder weather, i tried it in hot day and i had a really dizzy night, it was overwhelming, and for me, its not aquatic except for couple of mins in the opening stage and then its musky, juven mask-ish kind of scent, anyway recommend, beside Monkey special, Naxos, Starlight and Renaissance, this is must have imo !

Another excellent Mate Talk Marcelo thank you. Interesting that 40 Knots is the reached for frag. It's my current signature scent and has been for a while now. Golden Dallah and Don come close but 40 Knots gets most of the usage. My 50ml is down by half so my re-up is definitely going to have to be a 100ml. I've also made a shocking discovery in that the Lattafa line of frag/clones has a few Xerjoff dupes and they actually come very close. Not perfect but as a starter for new frag people they seem to work well. Nowhere near as well made but still interesting. Until next week my friend.

I actually just ordered a 10ml decant of 40 knots yesterday! I'm going to put it in my standard day wear selection (alongside Reflection, Aqua Celestia Forte, and Fougere Royale) and see if I fancy a full bottle in a couple of months. Spirit of Dubai - Roeya is probably going to end up in there as well.
My most reached for fragrances were Bergamask, Overture Man, and La Douler Esquise. So much that I conscientiously had to put them back in their boxes.
Bohemian Lime is very nice and I think I found my citrus aroma, as i have said citrus smells don't last on my skin...well this one does, 3 sprays are enough for 6+ hours. Its winter in my place, although not very cold and I performs great, can't wait to see how it goes in summer heats. My most used fragrance for last year was Orto Parisi Megamare - i just love this magic potion. Looking forward for the dates of the meeting and if I can - I will join!

I’m definitely in that camp of not “getting” 40 Knots, yet at least. I only got a 2ml sample and haven’t had the chance to give it a full wearing, much less in the weather it’s meant for. I did notice how long it lasted, though. 12 hours later I could clearly still smell it on my hand 😅

Just an opinion, but 40 Knots is not a fragrance that was meant for very high heat. I would never wear this in any temperature above 70 degrees and it would need to be at least a slightly cool breezy 70. It is an aquatic fragrance that evolves. You want to wear this on cool summer evenings. It can certainly be worn in the spring time and fall when the weather is cooler.

I've begun working out quite frequently so drinking tea or mate helps a lot with the tightness and soreness :) I do have some exciting fragrance related news too. We got a new parfumery in town! It's a tiny Douglas store but it shouldn't be underestimated for it's size. They have Xerjoff fragrances, Maison Margiela, Trussardi and some other less known niche brands & known designers. Most of what I listed (including Xerjoff) we didn't have here before! I tried out Xerjoff Soprano (rose, oud, lichee) yesterday and I loved it. My love for rose fragrances has been growing a lot lately. They don't have 40 knots as of this moment, but hopefully they'll have it in the future. Good to enjoy a cup of mate with you as always

Ah, that's frustrating...wonder why? especially since you're not spraying heavy. Out of interest are you spraying close to your nose ie neck, upper chest area? If yes, maybe try on your stomach and arm only I would then occasionally smell your arm to remind your nose what to look for in the fragrance. As you heat up, your body will push the fragrance up from your stomach. I find that I love doing this for myself to train my nose....just a thought Good luck @scbr2458👊🏽
Hello I have a question for all niche perfume lovers here. I'm relatively new to perfumery and I live in the middle of nowhere so I have to buy decants of stuff to try them out. I'm also a college student so I cannot afford to try out most stuff 😂😭. Now my dilemma is that I seem to have a very sensitive nose and most designers give me a pretty bad headache. But I do still want to explore this artform and thought well I have no choice but to go niche. I understand niche perfumes also use synthetics but I'm hoping it won't be as harsh. My concern is that it seems like most niche perfumes are very complex and sort of "the next step". Do you think I'll be able to understand and enjoy it without having fully understood the first step itself? I'm asking because I'm quite broke and I don't want to waste money on decants if in the end I won't be able to understand and enjoy the stuff. Thanks!
Hi Hashim, I'm new to niche fragrances too (exploring for around 6 months now) and think that you'll enjoy them. You don't have to understand it, because I don't, I can only identify a couple of notes but don't really think about it. When I try a fragrance I just love it or I don't. I haven't tried the brand out but am eager to do so because of Marcelo, but maybe check out Perris Monte Carlo, they have perfumes that have one primary ingredient, the name tells you what it smells like basically. So it won't be very complex to smell, and you'll find out what notes / smells you like. And for Niche they are good priced (50ml/€98 and 100ml/€150 if they are not on sale). For myself I found that I like the smell of vetiver, rose, citrus, musk and cinnamon. So I now know that if a perfume has one of these notes as a primary, I'd probably like it. I think having a sensitive nose is a gift if you love Niche Perfume, but I think everyone will find a fragrance or fragrances that suits him/her. I remember Marcelo advised me these brands as a beginner: Maison Francis Kurkdijan, Creed and Frapin.
Hey Antonio....Rosendo Mateu is a brand that we don't get here in Australia😩 although I've heard many good things about #5 Once I get overseas I'm looking forward to hunting this down and testing.....guessing that this is one that you love? How's that for timing! Yes, I'd give 40Knots another go. A lot more is happening with this fragrance and as I mentioned in this episode, it does throw some people off....what I should have mentioned was the same people that wrote to me about this fragrance (that they didn't like it), revisited it months later and mentioned that they were now in love with it. I don't like 40 knots exactly for the same reason you do - it's rather complex but in a wrong way. It smells like a kaleidoscope of all those spicy skin ointments for arthritis. Sorry but that's how I see it - warm yet uninspiring.
Great episode like always! And I love that Roja Parfums is one of the most reached for houses. I have started using Parfumo for tracking my daily fragrance for about a week now, I love statistics. I think the member raffle wheel is perfect (only better would be a physical wheel you'd spin 😝), the green member icon is also looking good I might attend the Fueguia meetup, not sure yet but will look into coming to Milano. Depends on if and how many perfumes you can take on the plane and if I can be free from work.

Personally also track on Parfumo as you can track counts of wears very easily. That's how I knew my exact numbers. And I love that display at 14:13.

man i love 40 knots but i go anosmic to it after a couple hours :(. I dont even heavy spray, just 1 or 2.
Ah, that's frustrating...wonder why? especially since you're not spraying heavy.
Out of interest are you spraying close to your nose ie neck, upper chest area? If yes, maybe try on your stomach and arm only
I would then occasionally smell your arm to remind your nose what to look for in the fragrance. As you heat up, your body will push the fragrance up from your stomach.
I find that I love doing this for myself to train my nose....just a thought

Hello I have a question for all niche perfume lovers here. I'm relatively new to perfumery and I live in the middle of nowhere so I have to buy decants of stuff to try them out. I'm also a college student so I cannot afford to try out most stuff 😂😭. Now my dilemma is that I seem to have a very sensitive nose and most designers give me a pretty bad headache. But I do still want to explore this artform and thought well I have no choice but to go niche. I understand niche perfumes also use synthetics but I'm hoping it won't be as harsh. My concern is that it seems like most niche perfumes are very complex and sort of "the next step". Do you think I'll be able to understand and enjoy it without having fully understood the first step itself?
I'm asking because I'm quite broke and I don't want to waste money on decants if in the end I won't be able to understand and enjoy the stuff. Thanks!
Hi Hashim, I'm new to niche fragrances too (exploring for around 6 months now) and think that you'll enjoy them.
You don't have to understand it, because I don't, I can only identify a couple of notes but don't really think about it. When I try a fragrance I just love it or I don't.
I haven't tried the brand out but am eager to do so because of Marcelo, but maybe check out Perris Monte Carlo, they have perfumes that have one primary ingredient, the name tells you what it smells like basically. So it won't be very complex to smell, and you'll find out what notes / smells you like. And for Niche they are good priced (50ml/€98 and 100ml/€150 if they are not on sale). For myself I found that I like the smell of vetiver, rose, citrus, musk and cinnamon. So I now know that if a perfume has one of these notes as a primary, I'd probably like it.
I think having a sensitive nose is a gift if you love Niche Perfume, but I think everyone will find a fragrance or fragrances that suits him/her.
I remember Marcelo advised me these brands as a beginner: Maison Francis Kurkdijan, Creed and Frapin.

I went to smell 40 knots yesterday actually and I wasn't impressed. Bought initio side effect instead. Maybe I need to give 40 knots another try.
How's that for timing! Yes, I'd give 40Knots another go. A lot more is happening with this fragrance and as I mentioned in this episode, it does throw some people off....what I should have mentioned was the same people that wrote to me about this fragrance (that they didn't like it), revisited it months later and mentioned that they were now in love with it.
These are the type of fragrance's that I really love....they take you by surprise.

I don't like 40 knots exactly for the same reason you do - it's rather complex but in a wrong way. It smells like a kaleidoscope of all those spicy skin ointments for arthritis. Sorry but that's how I see it - warm yet uninspiring.

Great episode like always! And I love that Roja Parfums is one of the most reached for houses. I have started using Parfumo for tracking my daily fragrance for about a week now, I love statistics.

I might attend the Fueguia meetup, not sure yet but will look into coming to Milano. Depends on if and how many perfumes you can take on the plane and if I can be free from work.
