    Having just done my PTO clutch, I would like to offer some suggestions.
    If your machine does not have a lower PTO shaft sticking out, when taking the shaft out, dont bother with trying to get the circlip /s off by the b earing, the whole thing comes out much more easily.
    The roll pin can be a problem, I put a chalk mark on the shaft and housing when reassembling and that gave me a clue as to where it all went.
    When putting the roll pin back, I used a soft brass drift, that made it easier as the brass formed its own guides on the head to hold it in the right place.
    I took the wheel off and the footplate as it was the only way I could get enough space, also a small stool to sit on 4 to 6 inches high makes it more workable.
    To get the big circlip back into the clutch was a job, I ended up grinding a notch in a set of valve spring compressors and used them to tighten up the ring and pop it into the groove.
    Be prepared for draining the oil there is lots of it, 3 drain plugs.
    It works a treat now.

    Hey Dave, something I would add to the how to crank a tractor instructions would be to keep your cranking hand thumb pointed toward the tractor along the crank handle. If the crank kicks back the thumb doesn't get hit. You probably do that without thinking.

    I have a 595 and need to replace trans/hydraulic fluid. What oil do you recommend? And is it really that important to use Hy-Tran by case as some people say and does the newer formulations not do well in the older tractors? Any info is appreciated and love the videos.

    • @CanadianRedneck15

      The Hy-tran oil was designed specifically for these tractors so it is best if you can get it without too much difficulty, otherwise a good TDH oil will work. Thanks for watching!

    I neglected to include in my comment earlier today that my 1981 IH 684 diesel tractor manuf in Great Britain has only 1 rear PTO shaft (I guess it is the top one) rather than having 2 rear PTO shafts. How is the 1 rear PTO clutch for the 1 PTO shaft -- the top one -- accessed and removed? Thank you.

Also we went on trip to East coast, boy I never s saw many trees. What part are you from THANKS

    • @CanadianRedneck15
      @CanadianRedneck15  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Don, the rear end is from a 454, so the same as a 574. Check above the hydraulic filter on the left hand side behind the foot board. Check for anything block movement of the valve. The lever is 2 pieces held together by two bolts, it may need adjusted to get the full travel of the valve, or finally it could be the clutch pack is worn out.

    I am having trouble reinstalling the PTO drive gear with cir-clip onto the PTO shaft. The drive gear is not sliding far enough in to expose the entire grove, as eyeless cir-clip is quite thick. I have a 1981 IH 684 diesel tractor manufactured in Great Britain. When rotary mowing waist high fescue or other pasture grasses or thick grass the rotary mower's (bush-hog), (a Hardee Model # T-972-LT) cylinder/shaft and yoke stop turning the cutting blades, and the grass is not being cut. [The 90 weight gear lubricant oil has been changed on the gear box of the Hardee Model #T-972-LT rotary mower.] I have to pick up on the lift and let the rear PTO recover and start turning the rotary mower cylinder and yoke and cutting blades again. Is there a way to adjust the rear PTO clutch, or is there other action I can take on the 1981 IH 684 diesel tractor to fix or improve the problem described above? What is the problem? Is the PTO clutch slipping badly and, therefore, worn out and needing to be replaced or rebuilt? Is your video consistent with locating and removing the rear PTO clutch on a 1981 IH 684 diesel tractor manufactured in Great Britain? Thank you.

    • @CanadianRedneck15
      @CanadianRedneck15  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Does the PTO shaft stop turning or just the gear box? The mower PTO shaft may have a slip clutch at the gear box. If the tractor PTO shaft stops turning then yes, the PTO clutch is worn and needs replaced. This video is consistent with a 684. (All tractors of this series were made in England, Doncaster I believe) Thanks for watching!

    • @joaniebowden7532
      @joaniebowden7532 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm assuming it is the tractor PTO shaft. However, while driving the tractor, I really can't see. The yoke from the mower gear box as well as the mower shaft and the yoke attached to the tractor with a push-pin lock stops turning. Perhaps I need to get someone else to drive the tractor and mower, and I should view from a safe distance with binoculars. I assume the tractor PTO shaft stops turning because the mower yoke -- which is attached to the tractor rear PTO shaft and connected to the tractor PTO shaft with the push-pin--stops turning, too. Please advise me how I can determine best and safely which shaft stops turning. With that universal joint on the yoke that attaches to the PTO--it should keep turning if the tractor PTO shaft continues to turn, correct?

    • @joaniebowden7532
      @joaniebowden7532 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, is there any way to adjust the tractor rear PTO clutch in the self-contained unit PTO to alleviate or cure the issue I'm describing?

    • @CanadianRedneck15
      @CanadianRedneck15  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joaniebowden7532 The clutch locks by hydraulic pressure so it is self adjusting to the point where you need to replace it.
      I would suggest that the next time it starts slipping stop the tractor leaving the PTO in gear and check if the shaft is still turning. It is a much simpler fix if it's just the slip clutch on the mower driveline.

    I have a 444 international. When I place lever in pto on position it makes lever jump. I feel like the pto shaft could be stripped. Could that be seen through these access ports.

    • @CanadianRedneck15
      @CanadianRedneck15  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      A 444 does not have access panels like these tractors, if you take the PTO lever out the side you may be able to see. Usually what happens is that the splines on the PTO driving shaft and the collar get worn tapered. I have a video that shows how to get to that shaft, it goes a lot deeper but you will be able to see what it is like. th-cam.com/video/1sve9HaZMbk/w-d-xo.html Good luck and feel free to ask questions.

    • @CanadianRedneck15
      @CanadianRedneck15  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The top PTO shaft is actually driven by the bottom shaft, so only one clutch. THere is a plate on the bottom, but I don't think it lines up, you have to go through the plate on the side. I believe I showed the basic steps to get the clutch pack out, to replace the disks you have to disassemble the clutch pack and change out the parts. Good luck!

    Hello. I have a Case IH 595. Lost all hydraulics and PTO while mowing. No noise or grinding... it just quit. The tractor does not seem to have a right side access panel. it has the MCV and pump access on the left side, under the filter can. Is that where I go into the tractor? After that, would the steps be essentially the same?

    • @CanadianRedneck15
      @CanadianRedneck15  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should be able to get to everything through the MCV valve. Check for any obstruction to the hydraulic pickup. It's also possible that the PTO input shaft splines have worn, seems to me there is an inspection plate under the clutch housing you could check on that. Thanks for watching!
