  • October 14, 2015: Blue Jays legend José Bautista hammers a go-ahead, three-run shot in a wild 7th inning of Game 5 in the 2015 ALDS against Sam Dyson and the Texas Rangers. Bautista would then deliver the greatest bat flip of all-time in celebration as the Blue Jays won, 6-3.

It's was almost scary how much that place shook. Not since '93 did it receieve an earthquake test. Notice the camera work from 0:20 showing Dyson then Hamels. They simply couldn't focus from all the vibe.

Seriously. Like not just the insanely loud crowd noise, but a split second after the ball makes contact there's this gutteral sort of HOOOOAGH that I have very rarely heard. The announcer happens to be talking just as it happens but if you can find a version of just the audio from the stadium without the broadcasters it's unlike anything i've experienced in terms of a reaction.

    THANK YOU FOR THIS
I have been searching since the day it happened for a copy of Dan Shulman's call. Had seen the TV broadcast later and found the great Jerry Howarth's call, but Dan's was the broadcast I heard live as it happened. Outside building a deck with my dad and we had the radio on, and either Dan or the colour commentator (don't recall who was with him that day) had just mentioned some random stat or relayed a story about whatever, as they often do between pitches on the radio, and just as the story ends, the pitcher delivers and Shulman quickly jumps back in with "the one one, Bautista, DRIVES IT!" and you could hear the absolute pandemonium in the stadium.
Been looking for this forever, thanks Blue Jays!

1st Call: Kenny Albert, son of the great Marv Albert - sports broadcasting dynasty
2nd Call: Jerry Howarth, longtime Radio announcer for the Toronto Blue Jays. I'm sure he also misses Tom Cheek in the booth with him.
3rd Call: Dan Shulman, legendary multi-sports announcer for ESPN, born and raised in Toronto and grew up cheering for the Jays. He was actually in the building when Joe Carter walked it off in 1993. Unfortunately for Dan, he had to leave his seat on his way to the radio booth before Joe hit it out and only heard the cheers from the SkyDome crowd. In 2016. he started calling games for the Blue Jays on top of his ESPN duties. (But of course, this is the Toronto Blue Jays TH-cam channel, so you already knew that. lmao)
Three of the greatest to ever tell the story of a sporting event.

Couldn't agree more. Three stone cold legends. I feel as grateful as a sports fan can feel to have grown up listening to Tom and Jerry on the radio, and now Dan and Buck on TV. Not mention Dan's son Ben (speaking of dynasties) now currently working the radio broadcast. Blue Jay fans (not to mention fans of the multitude of other stuff Shulman does) are some of the luckiest fans anywhere in any sport. Pitchers and catchers report in ~37 days!

They should teach kids in little league how to do this. Plus, taking out the catcher, taking out the second baseman, throwing at a batter and how to trash talk. That was my little league in the 70’s and it was fucking great.

It was our first playoff appearance in 22 years. Bautista has been the franchise player for about 6 seasons and this was the end of him being the all star player he was, after this year he just wasn’t the same, although he did have some clutch hits the year after in the playoffs.
In the top of the inning, the Rangers scored off of Russell Martin attempting to throw the ball back to the pitcher but it ended up hitting the bat of the batter and the runner from third ran in to score which made it 3-2, it was such a strange play and nobody understood why the run scored so the place went completely crazy.
In the bottom of the 7th we shouldn’t have even had a base runner. 3 routine plays IN A ROW ended up being fumbled by the Rangers infielders (Andrus and Moreland) and we tied the game the batter before Jose came up with 2 outs.
Jose played in over 1,000 regular season games with no playoff experience under his belt, 6 all star selections, 4 silver slugger awards, 2 home run crowns, and 0 playoff games coming into October 2015
He then hit the 3 run home run to cap off what was the most insane inning I’ve ever witnessed in my 10 years of watching Baseball. We advanced to the ALCS from that home run and ended up losing but we were only 2 wins short (Bautista also almost single-handedly won us the last game of that series as well with 2 home runs)
To put it simple, it was the first great playoff moment that the new generation of Jays fans got to see since a lot of them weren’t alive the last time they were in the playoffs.
This was also the start of the bat flip era, this type of celebration after a home run was rare up until this made bat flips more popular
I myself was at this game with my aunt and I was only 11 years old, almost 8 years later and I’m gonna be going to see him get inducted into the level of excellence in 2 weeks.
19 years old, been to probably a couple hundred baseball games in my life, seen a lot of incredible games, but none of them compared to this. I suggest watching the full game, it really is worth it.
