    Scale length. Hardly ever mentioned but a major effect on tone, feel and even tuning stability.

      @@rudedawg5087 This is only my opinion but I'd say that a 25.5 inch scale guitar has more bass and treble to its sound than a shorter scale instrument. Some might say that maybe 26 or 27 inch scale gives a more optimum tone. Go too long and you're into baritone territory. Shorter scale guitars tend to have lower string tension which some might prefer but personally I don't. I've always found 'Gibson' scale guitars too easy to bend, which might be just the reason that loads of players go for that style of instrument. It's all down to what you prefer.

      @@alexhollins5830 Thanks for that. I do like my '99 Gibson LPDC and '89 & '04 Fender strats but am gas'in for this Cyclone. Just leery or unsure about the tone of this short scale w/single coils. What makes matters worse is there are no guitar/music stores within 2 hours from where we live and I have to order every guitar played/sight unseen.

      @@rudedawg5087 It's all very subjective but I think that single coils sound great on shorter scale guitars. Hope I don't start a scale length war but I would say that it's a bigger influence on a guitar than the woods used in their construction.

    Love the cyclone. I have a mustang which is similar but with an even shorter scale of 24 inch. The cyclone is only 24.75 which is the same as a gibson les paul or sg. So it's not too short. It's shorter, but still a full size guitar. It will have some effect but I don't think most people would notice too much, and it certainly shouldn't put anyone off. My mustang is fine and I can swap back and forth between it and my strat with no issues. That said, I probably wouldn't like to go much shorter than the mustangs 24 ".

    The strat sounds for me come from the bridge pickup not having a tone knob, and the other two have individual tone pots. The neck pickup is where the 24th fret would be if a strat had it. You can get strat-ish tones from the cyclone and other guitars thought it's not the same.

    You can get a Warmouth 24.75 scale neck for a strat or tele, or you can get a stat or tele with a 24" scale length (MIJ junior collection--still being made, or fender modern player short scale used). The 25.5 scale length can make certain stretches an issue for people with barely average or below hand size. Mine is just a touch below average, and the gibson scale definitely helps, but the 24" scale is ideal! I tried the Paranormal Cyclone but the switches were sharp, and in a terrible position (think cutting your hand while strumming), so that was a no go. I love my jaguar, and also love the strat tones, so I'm looking for a 24 scale length strat!

I like the 24.75" scale length and the 3 single coils and Strat style tremolo and switching kind of like a Jaguar. I think the Jaguar is a cool looking guitar but I tried one with 9 gauge strings on it and it was just awkward and the strings felt like rubber bands..(I know they say Jags do better with heavier gauge strings) I just tried out a used Cyclone in Daphne blue that was at a good price and needless to say I ended up getting it. Played great, smooth and just felt right. Cool guitar and great value for the money and something that's just a little different.

    I've had mine around the same amount of time now. I had to swap stock pickups, I have a hotrail in the bridge and I'm still experimenting, trying vintage 59s next. I had to add a better trem after stripping the threads after a month of using the trem. Wilkinson makes a thicker plate and drop in trem system that's cheap and made better. I kept the saddles but plan to use American fender style. I took off the string tree for an American standard type. I put in an old .022 ceramic cap and white switchcraft switches (they don't line up perfectly unless tightened on each side equally) and chrome tele barrel knobs for imports that I found on ebay. I like 10s on it. The worst part is I can see every body seam in the right light. It's made of 7 pieces of wood, possibly 8 but definitely 7. The neck is great but was a pain to remove the poly from the edges for fret dressing. Turns out a few frets were short and being hid by clear coat, I'll have to fill the edges in one day but it plays great and it's one I'll never let go of unless I find an original with the jag pups.

    Nice comparison. I'm not a big fan of the Strat. Nothing against them, I've just never bonded with them. I'm more of a Gibson player. I prefer the tone and feel of them, however, sometimes I do want a more Fender-like tone, and I am liking the Cyclone the more you talk about it. The 24.75" scale length interests me. I was considering getting a Mustang because of the 24" scale, however, the Cyclone is sounding more and more of a better option to get a Fender Stra-like sound without needing to get a Strat.

  • @troyl200
    @troyl200 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ryan... The Cyclone and the Supersonic have different scale lengths. The Scale length on the Supersonic is shorter... So it's gonna feel squishier. You need higher guage strings if you want it to feel more like the Cyclone.

    • @troyl200
      @troyl200 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@60CycleHumcast Beats me then. Could just be the fact that it's mass production; that's the great thing about it, nothing is ever the same. The action of the sattles might dictate the action of the trem unit. Higher sattles = thicker turning point from the block over the body. That combined with the scale length is going to make it very hard to make them feel exact. You might have to tighten truss rod, then lower action or vice versa. Depends which guitar has higher action. My guitar set ups are clean. I run a 7.5 radius with the strings only as low as you'd see on an ibanez. No buzz, perfect action.
