The tie that came with the neutral dress is probably for your hair… Last year I was given a lot of really pretty vintage pieces from my aunt’s closet when she passed away and every dress had a hair accessory like that.
If you have the urge to cut so many pieces of clothing lol you should really just sign up for a sewing class at a junior college! Even community centers sometimes have classes taught by older ladies who just want to share their skills.
I looooove that dress as a skirt! I don't think it's a sin at all to alter vintage clothing. A piece will get more use and not go to the landfill if someone upcycles it into something they love and will wear often.
Vintage is the best type of pieces to pick up for a wardrobe curation.
DYING over the light green dress. Absolutely gorgeous. I would wear 50s/60s dresses to work everyday if I could find them in my size. Looked adorable on you!!! Also love the pink jacket. Great idea with the bralette. May even look good with a white bralette!
Altering vintage clothes was my favorite thing to do in my twenties! (I'm 34 now) the one piece I got the most compliments on was a long sleeve jumpsuit I turned into a sleeveless mini dress, don't be afraid to alter your clothes, it's so much fun and you'll have one of a kind pieces that you'll be so proud of
Michel, you do not have to apologize to us for showing excitement & being happy. That’s what the world needs more of. Not something to apologize about
Upcycling/altering vintage clothes is ok if there are already pretty much your size, but it is very much frowned upon in the vintage community to buy something that’s way too big and completely change it, because finding good quality vintage clothing in larger (and even mid) sizes is already really difficult. If you’re not that keen on it, just leave it for someone else who is that size and will love it.
I actually really liked the floral dress as a dress (minus the shoulder pads 😂) so maybe do as someone else suggested and have it made into a two-piece skirt and blouse, so you can mix and match them separately or together. The little pink lace jacket was super cute! That looked like such a great vintage shop!
Completely agree!! Make it a 2 piece that would be so adorable bc you could wear it with a less modest bottom to balance it out! Everything looked absolutely adorable as usual 😁
Really liked this sip and thrift! That second dress is stunning on you and also love the cardigan. I think if you alter an vintage item of clothing and that makes the item in a way you love and wear the piece, it is always the best thing to do. Instead of buying new we have to try to wear as much clothes that are already available to help the planet and if that means the items need some alterations than yes I am all for it. And how amazing you have a unique one of kind piece to show and that item that was laying on someone’s attic now can be loved and worn again. Love it! ❤️
Sip and vintage thrift is a definite yes - you look amazing in vintage. I think it speaks to you and fits your personality. The floral skirt would be beautiful. Maybe you could remove the shoulder pads and keep the top to go with jeans.
I absolutely love everything! Definitely turn that dress into a skirt! The sweater/jacket was so adorable with the jeans! That beige dress was stunning on you! Get it repaired. It was a gem. I would also look into altering that last dress. The pattern is great and would look so good on you. I love vintage clothes. Still my favorite go to’s when I want edgy or sophisticated cool.

As far as upcycling goes, a good rule of thumb might be - Even if you bought it at a vintage store, if it seems like something you might also find at a thrift store, go for it. If it seems like something really unique and special and obviously from a certain era, I wouldn't change it too much (other than slight resizing). Get it to someone who will value it the way it is.
You could check if they can make you a skirt and a top from the floral dress! Would be lovely too 😉

absolutely loved the blue/green dress on you! also I think you can definitely alter floral one to just be a midi skirt… ignore anyone who shames you for not following “rules” on vintage clothing! it’s about giving the clothing another life (in whatever form that takes)

Get a sewing machine! Some of those alterations would be so easy. Just watch a few tutorials - it’s not hard once you learn the basics and you would have so much fun flipping second hand pieces.

When you picked up the lacy jacket at the store, my first thought was..... "Michel, no, no, no.... It's definitely, something my Nanny wore with matching polyester pants!" But then you tried it on and I am dying to find something similar for myself! It's adorable on you!

Love this segment of sip and thrift (vintage)!! For the last Hawaiian print dress I definitely think you should try upcycling it and making it more modern and wearable by cutting and making separate top and matching skirt! Have the top a cropped shirt style, shorten the sleeves, and then elastic or add zip to skirt! It’ll look super cute

I love the 80s dress as is ! No judgement if you want to make it a skirt... but I think it would look so cool as is with a slicked back bun and bold earrings! That would be so fun and bold, but it’s also a very cute skirt too.
They might be able to make a matching top for the floral dress so it could be like a two piece set that you can mix and match with.
You should make the dress into a skirt and top duo. That way you could wear them together or separate.
You pull off vintage and modern styles so well! Vintage sizes are way different! A 12 is usually more around a 6. There's no "rules" for vintage clothing lol. If you want to alter it...do it!

I just love the idea of upcycling that dress into a skirt, it definitely is very becoming on your frame. The last dress, oufff, quite the challenge to turn that into a romper, and boy that just brought me flashbacks, lol. We have many thrift shops where I live and like you, I love to browse and find something I can take home instead of buying something new.

Hi Michel, this was so much fun and you have a great eye!! Now I get it😮 I think you should start taking some sewing lessons so you can play with the clothes yourself. You have the perfect figure for vintage clothes. You would look great in the dress that you want to make into a skirt which is fine but think of something you can do with the top of the dress to make it your own. For instance make it into a cropped top or a little short jacket.I love the pink blouse on you, so beautiful and the other dress. The color of the dress really looks pretty on you. I’m excited for you, I hope you show us the pieces after they’re altered, hemmed ect.

I think the flower dress is pretty as it is. Only the last one you thought as a swimwear cover up is soo huge it must be altered to fit you. The pink jacket is my favorite out of all, so feminine and girly. The sage/ light green dress is my second favorite one. I hope you get all those. Even the last one if you can have it altered.

You should check out Blue Velvet Vintage! They sort their clothes based on decade. It's right down the street from this area, right next to a great coffee shop too!
