I’m Nigerian, but I didn't grow up there, and my parents didn't speak Yoruba to us kids. Now I'm an adult trying to learn everything, which is a challenge. I struggle with not feeling like a “true Nija” person among other Nigerians, and I feel like learning to speak pidgin connects me to my roots and my people. This video is a public service 😊 PLEASE keep making these videos!
Same basically & growing up speaking English and now almost 30 trying to learn and pronounce pidgin is hard because it’s like unlearning proper English to be honest
Howfar, I live in the UK, and I am disabled. Many of my carers are from Nigeria (27 so far), and I have been learning Pidgin from a couple of them. I find it a fascinating language. I love the reactions that I get from the other Nigerian carers when I use Pidgin words and phrases. They are so happy when I do this. I have found that the Nigerian women are so full of positive energy, they are open and friendly. I very much look forward to their visits. They bring a lot of happiness to me life. The least that I can do, is learn a little bit of Pidgin. Oyana! o/
I am brazilian, and you said that "sabi" means "to know" that made so much sense to me, because in portuguese (brazilian portuguese) the verb "to know" is "saber". That is crazy
Pidgin is mixed with Portuguese, English, and Nigerian indigenous languages, when the Portuguese came to Nigeria for trade, there was need need for communication...
Have some new Nigerian friends at college and they were speaking Pidgin and i couldnt understand a word lol, this was helpful. Been loving getting to know my Nigerian classmates.
I am Ivorian but my father is Nigerian from the Yoruba people. I do not speak it well but I notice some words in Pidgin are also used in the Yoruba language and that's' gbamsolutely awesome. Maybe their origin is there. It's a bit like "Nushi" in Côte d'Ivoire which is a mixture of local languages and even latin languages. Thank you fro the video and I follow you from now on .😊😌
Having a Nigerian character in a book I am writing. Your video helped me a lot with better understanding pidgin and hopefully making the carachter talk more realistic. Now I am only left with the seemingly impossible task of finding examples of Nigerians speaking or learning german. I need to know how the accent sounds in german to give an accurate description 😂
I'm so glad I found you! I've been fascinated by Nigerian Pidgin for some time now because I love afrobeats sooo much! I've already learned quite a lot thanks to afrobeats lyrics but I'm so excited to learn more from you! Gbamsolutely amazing, thank you and much love from Poland 😊❤
Sabi, which is to know in pidgin, has its origin from Portuguese. Remember the Portuguese got to Nigeria before the British. The name Lagos sef na Portuguese. Keep up the good work.
Very practical tutorial thank you. Some notes to share 1. Abey= please.(Abey borrow your cup) 2. Wallahi= true 3. Gbam-solutely 4. Obodo oyinbo= white mans land 5. Westin= what 6. Abi/Shebi?= right? 7. Sabi= to know(I Sabi maths) 8. Wahala= problem 9. K-leg= sus 10. Nothing spoil= everything is good 11. Comot= to leave/ go out(comot for there) 12. I am finding afobeats 🔥🔥🔥🔥 and fascinating with the language so this is very helpful. Thank you for making these videos so i can sing along with the music. I am American but love learning different languages too. Do you also teach Ewe language (ghana)?
my step grandad was from abba and i was too you too learn igbo food was absolutely amazing tho but my extended family on that side all speak igbo, english and pidgin and would love to conversate with them in pidgin
Nawaho you teach it both in words and attitude. Great job! Am a beginner at naija pidgin and would like to know more ... What if you rank the phrasals alphabetically
''Obodo - Oyinbo''. Obodo is an Igbo word, while Oyinbo is a Yoruba word, both were blended together by Igbos who had lived in Yorubaland. It has become part of the many Pidgin English words. Normally in Igbo it would be obodo ndi-ocha. Meaning the white man's land.
Context 1: maybe someone offends you and you're been too soft to react. It means you have to show them a side of you they've never seen(the angry side) Context 2: could be they telling you to change something for someone.
Omo originally means child but in pidgin we use it as an exclamation when chatting informally with a close friend, usually in same age bracket as you. I have taught this before. Please watch my old videos ❤️

Can you please help me to know what "you gatz change am for dem"
🤣🤣🤣 its hard to explain....it is used in different contexts could mean you... "YOU SHOULD QUERY SOMETHING OR TAKE SOMETHING UP"
Context 1: maybe someone offends you and you're been too soft to react. It means you have to show them a side of you they've never seen(the angry side)
Context 2: could be they telling you to change something for someone.
I live in Italy with 3 nigerian friends
Amazing 🤩
You should be familiar with some of these words then
@@pidginlovers I understand some word but i speak Italian
What does "omo" means
It means child in Yoruba language. It's used the way Americans use "child" as a slang. But when we're talking in the formal send, it means child.
Omo originally means child but in pidgin we use it as an exclamation when chatting informally with a close friend, usually in same age bracket as you. I have taught this before. Please watch my old videos ❤️
I have many Nigerians guys that are friend but I would like totry to speak pigan
Oh nice! My videos should help you speak pidgin better😍
What does “ah go change am for u“ means when someone is speaking to you aggressively?
It means “I will be really gross with you” 😊
I didn't know you had this channel.
🙈❤
No put me for wahala o means ?
It means “don’t get me in trouble”😊
What jaffa mean
Not sure you’re spelling it right. Please cross check and get back to me
K- leg also mean something is not straight. Like the leg when they are not looking straight.
💯💯
Where dey part 2
I'm waiting too
Fo rēel, me need 2 practice mo' pidgin from Naija o. Tall tha homies tha need to mek tha breakout from Cambrì' English ó sumthin laik dat. Luv from a Naija descendent from Kōlumbà 🇨🇴
I apologise 🙏 A NEW VIDEO IS UP
😂 OH my gosh😅
😂
I'm an American who has a love for language. Is it *bawoni o* or "mo bawoni" when they ask me "how body?"
Bawo ni means how are you or how are you doing in YORUBA
@@johnsonolushola5131 Thanks 🙏🏾 so then *How body* or *How far* is best?
@@1138pratt Yes cos that pidgin not YORUBA. “How you dey” is a better way as it translates directly to “ how are you”
Being a woman can be fun but you must have Leverage
😊
Oko totobi
Thanks
Thanks for watching ❤️❤️ New video this Sunday 😊
