You will feel burned out inevitably when it comes to sticking to a routine for a long time. It’s literally inevitable. Progress tracking is probably the most important way of not getting tired and burned out. I suffer from the same problem and it’s the same thing that you said in regards to instant gratification. To keep going can become quite pointless as patience has his limit. Progress tracking will increase the stamina of your motivation. The stamina of your motivation is much more important than the intensity. Think about infatuation. When you have deep invested feelings for something or even someone, it tends to last a short period of time because as human beings, remaining at such a high intensity is so difficult. If you have feelings for a woman for example, you cannot keep up that 100% intensity that you had when you first spoke to them. It dies down slowly as it will with anything. I myself literally have the same exact problem as you do. Nobody can be so dedicated. We can ramp up the difficulty of our routine over time. Slowly. A house isn’t built over night and this is so important to recognise. Your thoughts are the thoughts of pretty much every regular person. It’s nice to see that you post this too. It’s reality that some days will feel like this. The only way to keep the motivation strong is either through shear will, which is nearly impossible, or progress tracking. Whether it comes to increasing how much you lift, or your bank balance, or relationships with friends and family, or anything important to yourself - keep a good track of these things. Keep a note on a weekly basis at a minimum of improvements that have been made in your aspirations that you seek to achieve. Vague goals of improving your life make it hard to navigate your way through life. Progress tracking is probably the only way to increase the stamina of your motivation. There is an interesting video of Arsene Wenger talking about stamina vs intensity of motivation and the importance in the difference. I hope this advice helped because I’ve been in your shoes so many times. The point you’re at is where most of us hit a brick wall and are unsure how to continue going as it has a huge impact on our mental and social health. Let me know how it goes. Text me on Instagram if you’re bothered. I would love to know how it goes. @almassyal
