- Here's a quick tour of my new to me, 2003 E55 AMG. In this video, we're going to go over some features that make this E55 unique compared to others, and also go over whats wrong with it. Being that its an older German car, its prone to have at least some problem, and mine might have a few... However, the m113k 5.4L Supercharged V8 under the hood along with the 5 Speed Automatic has appeared to fair quite well, making more reliable than its other German counterparts. Hope you guys enjoy this one. Our channel is going through a re-branding process to focus more on our AMG's (E55 and C63) while also various delivering car reviews.

I owned a 2005 E55 AMG for about a year. Great combo of form, functionality, and raw German power. I also made money when I sold it which was a plus. I had 19" BBS wheels on it. Fresh.

Hey, I got my e55 AMG about 6 months ago and love it. I’d say just make sure to check your engine mounts and harmonic balancer, both went out on my car and if I wanted to replace it with oem it would have been about 1300 bucks for parts alone. I instead opted for a bigger 168mm crankshaft pulley, headers, and a tune and spent a lot more, but now that car is an absolute monster. Good luck with yours

Vincent V I had a flash tune off of VRP like $500, but I had it dynod to clean up the tune
I bought my 05 C55 with 65k miles on it two and half years ago. It’s at 81k miles now and it’s only needed rear brake pads and I think engine and transmission mounts may go soon (thanks to my driving habits). Been a great car! Enjoy.

I really used to love BMW, I had a 335i Bi turbo, leaked engine oil as hell, At the night I press the gas hard so I see A lot of smoke came from exhaust pipes, I did again so I diced to sale lol.
As a Mechanic I will never buy another one, my free times are to me not the car.
True, BUT maintenance is going to murder you. I spent $5800 on purchasing mine and within six years I sent close to $11,000 on fixing and replacing old parts. The car ran great but like the dealer says, the parts are only going to last but so long after 20 yrs. Just recently it needed a power steering pump and rack and pinion. Almost $5000 in repairs for someone like me who doesnt have a garage or the equipment to fix anything on it. You calculate that on a car that now has over 200,000 miles on it then you can understand why I hd to get rid of it. I loved my E55 but itll hurt u whether u drive it everyday or let it sit for a while

Love the old E body style. I bought a 07 e350 a couple years ago and the design is pretty timeless. Not anywhere as fast as this beauty, but I have my AMG fun in a c63. The older Benz are top notch as always

Haha thanks mate, appreciate it! I watched your w210 review as well, good stuff! I think the w210 will likely be worth more than the w211 in the farther future because of its simplicity. If they had offered a manual transmission on those, w210's, I'm sure enthusiasts would be paying a good amount for them right now.

.since that's a 2003, you did check to see the radiator was replaced? If not replace it and check your trans fluid to be sure there is no coolant contamination.
The valero radiators were defective

The C63 and E55 from this age is truly the best, i love the new S63, C63 and all of them, especially the coupe's. But these are like, what can i say, another class. It feels like they have more soul, and the engine sound will make non-car enthusiasts a boner. The owner of a workshop i visited had a E55 which he had done a couple of things to (including a paintjob which looked kind of bad some places, but oh well.) I remember he took a burnout, and i can remember my entire body just shaking from the exhaust sound. These are amazing cars, and i hope i will be able to own or at least drive one before there are none of them left on the road.

I almost fell into the e55 bug. The repairs are abundant and expensive. If Mercedes built the car as reliable as the "check engine light" it would be incredible to own. The light comes on reliably. But I still enjoy others showing us the AMG when it works flawlessly .

Mercedes Benz USA warrantied It for 25 years from the year of the car... I have the letter they sent me along with many other warrantied parts

Those 2000's c55/e55 look really good
These are the most reliable AMG models. Over 600hp with easy mods and a bullet proof motor and trans. Prices are inching up and I want a nice 2004 - 2005 model with no pano room which is 100lbs heavier.

Until you have ringland failure of cylinder #8 and have a blown motor. I blew mine, and my buddy that works at Eurocharged Minneapolis has three blown M113K engines for the same reason, all on cylinder #8. And at 113K, my oil pump chain tensioner failed and was causing the chain to hit/grind on the case - also requiring removal of the engine to get to. I love this car, but I haven't seen this reliability that everyone speaks of. Rear air bags (air suspension) are starting to fail as well. When your rear main seal goes out (and it will), get ready to pull the transmission.

your gonna love the car, I owned a 06 and it was very reliable. Easy car to mod up, if you do mod it do cooling mods. Forget heat exchangers they just help in recovery.

I went thru an almost op-site experience, My father has been the owner of an 03 White e55 sense Brand New, well before i could drive ive been thrown around in the back seat of his as he brags about how fast it was when it came out. and he still Owns and drives the same car and its kept outside in the rain its entire life ( no show pony shes high miles and still beating on weekly. I didn't want the same car as my dad nor could i afford it being Young dumb and quite broke. As ive gotten older I owned alot of M cars, and still do Have 2 And most recently for the last couple years had an 2011 Audi S4 with the supercharged 6. Sadly witch suffered major engine failure destroying the block ect. For what i sold my Audi for parts I purchased a tidy used 05 Silver E55 And now i realized how dumb i was i wasted alot of time and money on other European cars I Abesolutely love the e55 and its ageing beautifully!! Dont make the same mistakes i have! Just buy an e55 And enjoy worry free tourque monster they are

Since my dad has had an e500 from launch until now I don't understand how the seats of cars break down. The seats of this car stay like new.
I was looking at European cars to buy like, e39 m5, e39 540i, e46 m3 etc but then I came across the e55 amg and I do have to say it is the best bang for your buck

@@xidropkillzx3246 For real bro. The only Mercedes model that isn't really dropping is the SL class but other than that almost all the cars can be had for under 20k. I actually just got a cl65 AMG for under 20k recently and it's in GREAT condition.
The W211 is gorgeous...it looks great even today. Perhaps the best looking E Class ever produced..even better looking in AMG form..

Do you think a 2003 E55 with 196km got $7500 is a good deal? It’s a BC car and the guy says it has no accidents or mechanical issues with it
I feel like the only car that can rival that is the b5 s4, but even then it takes some money into the s4 (about 3-5k) to make similar performance, but the amg has more easy potential, however if you want a manual you can get that with the s4. You won't get that rad v8 supercharger sound from the s4, but you will get an a amazing sound twin turbo v6 with almost no lag even with a turbo upgrade. However the b5 is definitely less reliable, the only big advantage is a manual, and turbos if that's your thing
The b5 s4 is a money pit like no other, unbeliavably unreliable engine
there is one with 105k miles for $7,000 and he put in a new suspension and new engine seals last month with 2 owners and clean title and record. what do you all think good or scam?
hmm tough to say. If it has all the common e55 problems addressed, then that's a really good price.

Did you sell the 740i M sport
Best 7 things you can do with this car are 1: fit a larger inter cooler for the supercharger, 2: Split the cooling system, 3: Upgrade the intercooler pump, 4: Fit a 77mm clutched pulley, 5: Fit 550cc injectors, 6: Get a tune (Eurocharged, VRP, German Muscle etc etc), 7: 1 step colder plugs. That will give you the best price to performance ratio - assuming you do the work yourself you'd be into it for about $2,000 to $2,500. I went a little further with short headers and a 92mm throttle body but really the cost of those and having them fitted was not worth the gain. Oh and get the supercharger serviced as well. Great fucking car.
One mod I would recommend that's super cheap but would make a big difference is the front marker lights... Getting them clear or smoked
These 5.5 litre motors are rated up to 750 hp, due to adjusting the supercharger

Truthfully, as long as the car has had regular maintenance and is well taken care of, mileage shouldn't be too much of a factor. An E55 with 100k or more is fine, as long as the common stuff has been addressed (air suspension, intercooler pump, engine/transmission mounts, etc..). The m113k engine and 5 speed are known to be pretty durable.

Yeah, those prices are definitely for collector examples. But people are beginning to charge north of 40K for normally driven examples...
Other great option is the aristo v300. Pure JDM VIP classic with the legendary 2jzgte vvti engine!

wanted to clear this up the reliable e39 m5s are not 85k you can get them for around 13k all day. but the e55 is a great pick. Also the mods on your e55 look great not "ricer".

Thank you! I wish the e39 m5's in my area were ~13k, like they are in the states. Most of them are going between 25-40k CAD. As for the tune, I'm trying to lay out whats the plan. I want to first address what needs to be fixed, then exterior. Looking at giving it a paint touch up, ceramic coat etc. Once that's done, I'm thinking of putting on some C63 mufflers. Afterwards, I'll look into engine mods, specifically with cooling, then I'll see from there... I'd love to build the car out, but my budget isn't too huge for that, and I'd rather make sure everything is in good condition.

Shouldn't have bought the 03, instead should have got the 05/06 models. Since you have this one get an additional separate transmission cooler. Or sell this one and get the 05/06 this 03/04 have problems. Also use fcpeuro for all your parts, replace the air suspension with Arnotts and get lifetime warranty,. Also get the sbc pump completly replaced and the fuel tank replaced under mercedes recall warranty, which I'm sure the dealer didn't mention.

I doubt the prices will skyrocket on these, mainly because of their electronic complexities. And also because they aren't offered in a manual. They may rise slightly in the next 5 years, but not by much. I'd keep an eye on the w210 e55 however. I think that one has the potential to really rise in value.
