I am a Pakistani, I live in America, and Polish and some Romanian people told me that Russians are assholes, but because Russians are usually nice with people of Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Siri Lanka, Egypt, and Morocco, therefore, it is hard for me to believe that Russians are assholes towards Polish, Romanian, Chechan, Tatar, Ukrainian, Czech, etc.*

2) The Sovjet-Polish war 1919-21
3) The attack on Poland 1939
4) The Katyn massacre
5) The opression after the war 1945-1991
Europe as a whole for centuries has been like spiders in a bottle. This makes the fascinating history of those Spaniards, Napoleon (Bernadotte-Sweden), England, Austro-Hungary, and all the rest. And Germans, of course! I wonder if it makes the participants "a bit skeptical" about one another or if it is only about Russia? I believe Russia cannot be good for Europeans no matter what it does: it failed with Czars, Bolsheviks, and post-Soviets. Only a total loss of self-identity and interests is what is needed to satisfy you guys. Just be honest.
Your information field is 80-95% controlled by Western Soros foundations and a bunch of globalists from the USA. As a Russian, I am not at all interested in the Balts being under our boots! (Stalin was a Georgian of a different opinion, like Hitler’s ideology), Putin also believes in building a multipolar world after the collapse of the USSR, realizing that in the fight against Western colonialism only the unity of allied states defending their sovereignty, the national interests of the people and the state, such as Viktor Orban together with Hungary and others. Therefore, including on your Western TV, they pump you up with Russophobia, so that when the opportunity is convenient for them, they can manipulate you - send you to fight the Russians and liberate them from “dictator Putin”... thank you, we went through democratization in the 90s (with the complete collapse of the country and sovereignty !), just like Ukraine screwed up with Vicky Nuland’s cookies and survived the Maidan...The Poles/Fins and other Balts should sit quietly and then no one would even think of attacking you, you joined NATO when Russia could not object to its destroyed economy. Two Russians living in Warsaw. Never hiding our nationality. Met exclusively great people, Poles, Ukrainians, and Belorussians. Never had any issues because of our ethnicity

Pierogi ruskie don't have anything to do with Russia, actually. The translation would be ruthenian pierogi. Ruthenia is a historical region in South-Eastern Poland and Ukraine, I believe.

Yes, I learned that. I believe the same people we call "Gutsul". They speak a language closer to Russian than even Ukrainian (or Slovak).
At least I can understand them better. I did meet few in Slovakia an Ukraine and never seen one who did not speak perfectly Russian. But it's a different tongue (and very interesting sense of humor). There is one famous folk music group from Slovakia on TH-cam, I think they perform in that language.

Or just Rus', as a common pattern for all Easter Orthodox groups. We had White Rus', Black or Red etc. And yes, It transfers to modern Russia as well.
@@mourdebars yes, you're right. What I described was specifically Red Rus'. It is there that pierogi ruskie come from. So south-eastern Poland and western Ukraine. Black Rus' is in the Belarus-Lithuanian border, and White Rus' is a larger reagion from central Belarus to Smolensk. So some parts of Russia are in Rus' but Russia and Rus' are not synonymous, which is quite a common misconception.

That's not understandable because Poland is not at var. It's understandable in Russia and Ukraine because they are at var. In Estonia, there's a prison sentence for supporting Russia publically. Russians can live in Poland too..I even know 1 or 2 and their Polish is not as good as mine but they manage. RUSSIA-phobic is not always RUSSIAN-phobic. 4. Joint attack on Poland with your ally Nazi Germany on 1939, stabbing Poland in the back during the fight against Nazi aggression. Destruction of Polish culture and property, murder and deportation of Poles. Mass murder of thousands of Polish offers in Katyń, aimed at destruction of Polish elite.
5. Betrayal and destruction of Polish anti-Nazi resistance in 1944-45, including preventing any help from reaching the Warsaw Uprising, as well as betraying and arresting and murdering Polish resistance fighters who collaborated with Red Army in fight against the Nazis.
6. Military occupation of Poland in years 1945-1989, killing and imprisoning all opponents of Soviet rule, theft of innumerable treasures of culture and history, destruction of territories through which the Red Army went, mass rapes, mass pillages and murders.
7. Economic exploitation of Poland 1945-1989
8. Political leadership in communist repressions, which include murdering of striking workers and dissidents, as well as imprisoning of people.
9. Forcing Soviet inefficient and primitive economic and management system in Poland, which which lead to massive underdevelopment of our country, out of which we had to work extremely hard to dig out from 1989 onwards
10. No information provided about the nuclear disaster in Soviet Ukraine jn 1987, which caused massive risks for Polish population, in particular children.
Overall, you have occupied Poland for over 160 years, murdered millions of us, hurt and raped further millions. You attempted to destroy our language and culture and wipe out our nation, which is the definition of genocide. Thousands of stolen treasures of our culture are still in Russia and many more you have simply destroyed. Parts of Poland once under your occupation are still underdeveloped, your destruction went so deeply that it is taking very long time to remove all the scars and wounds.
Consider this - why do all the countries who have the most contact with Russia, dislike it the most? Perhaps the problem is your behaviour?

A: She was under impression, having no other choice, but to go there. See, she needed a US visa for family reasons.
US suspended all visa issuance in Russia, so Russians have to travel to an other country. She did not know, she could be (much) better off to travel to Belgrade, Serbia or to Ankara (Turkiye). The consular agreement between USA and Russia allows that. Instead, she felt being forced to travel to a country with 400+ years of political controversy. Little poor lady knew, the things are not as tough, as in imagination. And there is no need to travel to Warszawa if same thing can be done in Belgrade.
The same goes the "other" way and if you notice in the comments Polish people are split on the topic.
On my side I was never treated badly in Poland and the more I travel there, the more I like. I travel there very often because in order to reach Kaliningrad I have no choice, but transit through Poland. I did not feel any sympathy of Polish people towards my license plates (USA). Many are straight grimacing at them, sometimes even the border guards. When they learn that I am either Russian or Hungarian things improve dramatically.
So my experience with Poland: the least popular country is probably US of A. But it never goes really bad, just you feel the shoulders being turned and see the grimace. Remember: if I drive my car, the word "USA" is literally written on my forehead. Even if the things are a bit different.

Cities like Torun or Krakow are nice. Even a little town like Braniewo. As far as USA... the beauty is in the eye of beholder. We eventually left it, but once in a while we visit "our" country as tourists. We are much more often in Poland and Russia than in USA lately and don't regret it. But no way I would renounce my US citizenship ever.
Warsaw is very specific, it is not for everyone. She came here in the winter, and Warsaw is not nice in the winter. Secondly she came with a lot of preconceptions and thirdly she seems completely unapologetic/ignorant about her own country aggressions. Does she know what her country has to do with the way Warsaw looks like right now? Didn't think so.

Some Russians and Ukrainians don't know their history. They don't know what they did to the Circassians, Tatars, the Siberian Turkic people, or the Japanese people after WWII. They were sinking civilian evacuation ships for fun. Russian Far East is full of people with partial Ukrainian ancestry, because Ukrainians were the vanguards for Imperial Russian colonization...and now they're being sent to Ukraine to fight many Ukrainians who have partial Russian ancestry. The Ukrainian faction was a influential political force in Soviet Union after Stalin, yet Ukrainians now claim they were under Russian cultural and political occupation and play the victim card.

There is a good reason why the Polish people may not necessarily like Russia. The times under Russian influence were absolutely terrible and right after WW2 the Russian soldiers committed so many atrocities not only in Poland but also in East Germany were almost all women were raped. They don't teach you that in school, do they? I would say normal and civilized Russian people are welcome in Poland. Unfortunately, after watching hundreds of videos on the russian 1420 Channel on YT, I now understand that those people are a small minority. Free Poland is developing quickly and becoming a prosperous society, no wonder they don't want to have anything to do with Russia.

Sorry, but you're wrong about the barszcz. There always was barszcz and barszcz ukraiński here in Poland. Both soups are DIFFERENT. Normal barszcz (also called Polski or red one) is a soup based mostly on beet and its consistency is diluted to the point it's drinkable, while Ukrainian is something you probably know and think about your borschtsch HOWEVER it was called Ukrainian always since the ancient times here.
Saying that borsch is ukrainian is the same as to say that dumplings are chinese food while most of the countries have similar recipes historically

I was working in Siberia in 2013. I had to leave when my visa expired and flew out of Surgut without my interpreter. Checking in turned into a big problem when you don’t speak the same language. The person behind me didn’t speak English but knew what I needed to do. He physically went with me upstairs to check my bag, got my stub then took me back to get my boarding pass. It is nice to get help from strangers when traveling in a foreign country.
As Pole I'd say that Poland is rather Rusorealistic than Rusophobic. Our history with Russia is full of hostility, and the latest declarations of the Russian authorities are cause for concern due to the war of agression in Ukraine. I'm only talking about the context of international relations. When it comes to interpersonal relations, I wouldn't expect such antipathies, I personally know several Russians and I have a very good opinion of them, but it's probably because they emigrated to Poland as a sign of opposition to Putin's policies. I assume that Russians really can be good and intelligent people, it's just a pity that lately they have had so little opportunity to prove it. Really such a pity because I think that Russian culture has a lot to offer to the civilized world, I am personally a big fan of Dostoyevsky and Tolstoy.

It IS true that Russians are often perceived in a negative manner. Mostly in western Europe. In slavic countries of Eastern and Southern Europe, even if there are strong anti-Russian beliefs in a lot of the population, there is more of a cultural bond, so it is easier to bypass the political aspect. But of course, if you want an easy way out, you can always denounce your heritage, Putin, etc. Self-hating Russians are pretty easily accepted.

Not sure what you expected from Polish people given the history between these two nations and how Russians treated Poles during / post-war times. You can have fun, party, drink with them but once you start discussing politics and history it may get ugly. Everyone is welcomed and people are friendly unless you start pushing your agenda. The Russian authorities usually don't chase people who make critical videos in English that is for international viewers, because most of Russians don't speak English anyway so it won't have a big influence on the public opinion in Russia. From my experience in Poland, everyone I met had normal attitudes toward Russians. I talked with a lot of people about so many things. The only European country I visited and found anti-Russian sentiments was in Hungary, many years ago. I met people there with very strong anti-Russian sentiments. They were also a little disappointed with the United States for not saving them, under Soviet domination. This is why the situation with Orban today is so counter-intuitive. I hear he was he used to be strongly anti-Russian himself and only changed in recent years after visiting Moscow and Beijing and then receiving Russian investment and gas supply. Hungarians are a unique people in Europe but their anger toward Russia stems from brutal suppression under Soviet domination. They told me that literally every Hungarian stood against them and Russia overwhelmed them with massive military force. They tell me Russia had listening posts and microphones hidden everywhere to catch and abduct Hungarians who said anything that did not like.

By definition phobia is an irrational, unrealistic and persistent anxiety disorder. By that definition Poland (and other neighbours) are NOT Russophobic - because their fears and anxieties are not unrealistic or irrational - rather they are rational and realistic given the historical and current behavior of Russia towards their neighbours. You don't mention the deportations in the 1940s or the executions by the Soviets before and after German/Romanian occupation, after the Soviets finally succeeded in incorporating Moldova In 1946-1947, at least 216,000 deaths and about 350,000 cases of dystrophy were accounted by historians in the Moldavian SSR alone. In 1944-53, there were several anti-Soviet resistance groups in Moldova; however the NKVD and later MGB managed to eventually arrest, execute or deport their members. Of course everything was lovely in Moldova as the Soviets imported thousands of Russians into parts of Moldova and of course once the Soviet Empire broke up wasn't there a nasty little war where now rhere is a Russian puppet of Transnistria. As far as Bulgaria is concerned I am sure they became Independent of Russia when the Soviet Empire went down. Over the years from 1912 (The first Balkan War) Bulgaria has been sliced and diced. The Soviets did presumably build all those dams but at what cost to the population, I note that some hundreds of thousands of ethnic Turks were kicked or left in 1980s. As above when Bulgaria had the chance they rejected the Soviets and became Independent. It is now a member of the EU and NATO. I forgot the mention the various executions by the NKVD after 1944.

We did not "become independent" when USSR fell, our sovereignty was limited yes, but the ties with the West were never interrupted, and we determined the internal policy! Now we have Zero sovereignty, everything is decided in the american embassy, even the ruling cabinet is appointed there!

As a Canadian I visited Poland a few years ago. I loved the food, culture, history, museums, architecture and that i can speak Russian to older people and English to younger people. I loved Warsaw especially. Poland felt like I arrived home. I am looking forward to travel to Russia sometime.

Watching expats on you tube from North America and elsewhere who now live in Russia, it is not a bad place as the west makes it out to be. It is worth the visit. Talking with Russian friends who live in Canada who plan on moving back to Russia makes me feel that Russia is OK.

Most countries near Russia are like that, including mine (Czechia). When your country invades its neighbors, murders civilians and commits horrific crimes, you should not be surprised by such attitudes. Of course, I am not blaming you personally. Just yesterday, while shopping, I saw these "Ukrainian" dumplings and I said: Oh, there are no Ruthenian dumplings, so thank you! Generally, I got the impression that you consider Poles to be russophobic based on official statistics, without having encountered any manifestations of hostility towards Russians. The behavior of hotel staff in Warsaw probably corresponds to the behavior of staff in Moscow hotels towards Russians from Zamkadye.

When it comes to the name "ruskie pierogi", even Poles talk nonsense. "Ruskie" does not mean "Russian", but Ruthenian. Ruś or Ruthenia is divided into white (today's Belarus) and red (today's Ukraine). For centuries, Ruthenia, as part of the Lithuanian duchy, was part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.

For any foreigners here, the adjective "ruski" also depicts anything Russian in informal Polish (as opposed to the formal "rosyjski"), much like "Russkie" has been used in informal English. It's been so for at least few tens of years (I'm not knowledgeable of the exact timelines here) with the formal and basic meaning of the adjective "ruski" still pertaining to all things Ruthenian (as in the Rus') though. That must've confused the restaurateur(s) but is not a mitigating factor at all.
The claim that Moscow principality aren't Russian principality is Ukranian fake. Ruskie = Russian. Otherwise they would be called Ruthenian.
I dislike people that discriminate folk for their nationality. We are all individuals wherever we are from. I am not so stupid as to believe that each of us represents our respective governments' opinions and actions. I am a Scot and have lived in Poland for 22 years. Thankfully I have rarely had any problems with racism.

17:50 about Pierogi. I don't know if you were ever been into a "Bar Mleczny" but since the arrival of refugees most of the cooks I saw were ukranian women, so the pierogi were different than used to just two years ago, now are bigger and "ukranian style".
Also, there are "Russ Pierogies " not Russian (nothing to do with Moscow )- but come from "Red Russ" after added to Poland, by "Kazimierz the Great" today Volhyn/Lwow regions. So definitely more connected with Ukraine.

@@BurninVinyl Exactly. Not even ingredients are 100% correct. You do not need vinegar. Carrots are debatable, but OK. You will need boiled eggs and some sort of meat. And fresh cucumbers as well. The bastardized "Olivier" (this is how it is called in Russia) needs some sort of sausage, but people strongly prefer chicken meat. Than it is called "Stolichny" salad. I may try salmon next time, but first time heard about it.
Vinegar is never used. The quality of mayo is very important. Ideally one should make it at home. If not, buy French or from former USSR. A random from grocery store (outside of France or former USSR) won't do any good.

I refuse to call "pierogi ruskie" as pierogi "ukraińskie". It's a traditional Polish dish coming from a region in first Polish republic called "województwo ruskie". It has nothing to do with Moscow's Russia.
I am often in the car line between Poland and Russia, on the "noman's land". There are usually Russians living in Europe, sometimes people from Belarus and Ukraine. After few minutes political disputes start. Names like Zelensky or Putin rarely if ever mentioned.
Instead, everyone is talking about Ursula and Orbán. There is something special about them, I guess.

I have the impression that most of the uncomfort came from expecting hostility rather than the actual experiences. Only if you admitted in conclusion that the experience was surprisingly not bad at all, despite feeling uncomfortable from just being a russian in a russophobic country, i think there would be way less negativity in the comments. Either that, or you chose to be clickbaitey and controversial on purpose, if that is the case then i have to agree with the criticism. I'm also russian, and currently living and working in Poland, have experienced almost no discrimination in 1.5 years of living here. At the same time, i do feel "uncomfortable" all the time from just being allowed to live here, simply because of the crimes my country is doing and my inability to change it. It can feel especially bad from reading some things polish politics have to say about not only russians but the immigrant ones specifically, also from reading other immigrants' experiences who were less lucky than me. Needless to say, it is nothing compared to what Ukrainians have to go through. In my conclusion, russophobia (or russorealism as some named it) does exist, but i feel that most of the time, it is on a level that ranges from understandable to deserved.

Svetlana, Poland has a bad history with Russia. Their country was partitioned in 1795 by Russia, Prussia (now Germany) and Austria. Poles remained under Russian occupation until 1918. The Polish language was banned and Poles were persecuted for speaking their language.
I wonder what has happened in the Prussian (German) and Austrian parts - was that history also bad or only with Russia? How it was there with the Polish language? I know only the Russian part of being guilty but not much about the others.
I should check the status of the Hawaiian language in the XX century or the Irish language in the XIX century. Just in case I should check how it was with the Polynesian language in Tahiti.

It seems to me that a significant part of my compatriots do not display Russophobic attitudes against Russians themselves, including those who live in Poland (though of course there will always be one or another asshole nationalist or racist). But a significant number of my compatriots are also allergic to Russia as a state - authoritarian, not honoring treaties, aggressive and defiant, and at the same time remaining outside the norms of basic civilizational comforts for its citizens. So is Poland Russophobic? Yes, Russophobic towards Putin's Russia, just as it was Russophobic towards the Tsars and Bolsheviks who oppressed us.

The borscht/barszcz thing is incorrect as im sure people have pointed out. My wife (russian) told me about the first time she went to Poland she got regular barszcz i pasztecik. She was so disheartened when she found out that barszcz was made only of beets and not full of stuff like the other version. Za to Ukrainski barszcz zawsze sie nazywal ukrainskim od dawna, i on sie rozni od drugiego barszczu ze wzgledu na to ze przepis jest zupelnie innym. musimy jakos roznic ktory barszcz jest ktorym, bo w rosji i ukrainie, wszystkie barszcze sa wlasnie te nieprzezroczyste.

However, sadly, if you are back in Russia, you probably will not be able to purchase these books?!! These should be a start in helping you to better understand Pole's impressions of Russia. Phobia is defined as hatred that is irrational. The Poles are absolutely rational in their judgment about Russians based on historical facts. So, definitely not a phobia - just realism.
