As an Italian, I’ve been in Russia in 2019. It was far the best vacation I had in my life. The Russian people were so polite with us. One night I went in a pub to drink something and the waitress was funny and friendly with me when I was speaking about vodka. The one thing that shocked me but I guess it was predictable,is that while I was dressed heavily in summer because it was freaking cold for me, they were dressed only with t-shirts and short pants😂. Anyway I felt in love with Saint Petersburg and Moscow (+ Pushkin and Sergiev Posad). Beautiful cities with beautiful history and food. I’d back in Russia again🇮🇹❤️🇷🇺

Maybe you don't know that in Italy there was the largest communist party in the west (the PCI) and it had a huge cultural impact first and after the WWII (almost a hegemony if we talking about the culture); so the birth of the republic and democracy, the italian resistance, the partisan/civil war, Togliatti (PCI leader and also a central figure of international communism, never heard of Tolyatti city?) and much more.
All this led to studying a lot about the USSR, and not only the WWII but also the October Revolution and, more in general, about the russian history/culture, from Peter the great to the end of Romanov, not to mention the greats russian authors who are well known and appreciated in Italy.
I hope you understand what I mean despite my "eng", sorry.

I'm Russian guy living in Italy for almost a year now. What i would like start with, is that attitude towards Russians in Italy is very positive. During the acquaintance people usually assume me German/British/American and have positive attitude, but when they found out that I'm Russian - they are usually surprised and become even more friendly. I must sadly say that i consider social relations in Italy are way healthier of those in Russia, people are much more open-hearted and warm in general :) For example, in Russia i always felt that no one gives a fuck about me, that wasn't the problem, but that's how the way of things are there, while in Italy every going out is a lot of smiles, greetings, people very often give pleasant compliments about looks, etc.
For me personally i must say that i love Italy very much. I've been here a lot when i was a child with average emotions, but now as an adult with all my travel experience , I consider that its one of the best places on earth. Climate, nature, marvelous architecture, friendly Italian people and my favorite local cuisine. And talking about my personal passion - classic italian movies, golden era of European cinematograph - Visconti, Zurlini, and many other masters. Not sure anyone ever will be able to reach their level again

Italians don't let themselves be influenced by the media, we are free minds, we have a dislike for the French and the Germans yes its true, sometimes for American arrogance, but about Russians zero, zero dislike ahah

Buona fortuna.

If you really decide to visit Russia some day, I would recommend you not to limit yourself with Moscow and St. Petersburg. Other places might appear radically different from those two. For example, Chelyabinsk or Novosibirsk (where I was born), to put it mildly, are not that polished and shiny. We have a joke that Moscow and Russia are two different countries. There are resort towns at the Black Sea where it's much warmer than in the rest of the country. I would really appreciate if you compared climates of Milan and Sochi :) Go visit the Lake Baikal, the Altai Mountains. I wish I also visit them some day. If you are in doubt, just search for photos of those places. So, there are many shades of Russia outside of its capital (which, remember, is not really Russia :)). The only thing is: be ready that most people do not speak English there. You need someone who speaks Russian.

If you weren't alive in America then, it would be hard to understand how big a deal it was here. And that same year the 800 meter final where Dave Wottle edged out Evgeni Arzhanov in the most incredible race I ever saw. Nowadays, I am absorbed by 19th century Russian music (Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Borodin, etc.) and Russian history.
