    Love the video. Here’s a little idea to play with:
    If I don’t want someone to pin my hip or leg to the floor, I will always have the ability to fight the pummelling gaming with 2 feet. Most people let the passer pin 1 leg. Resulting in the guard player only having 1 leg to fight with momentarily.
    So that clip of be inverting through was more so a result of me not allowing my opponent to pin 1 of my legs.

    Nice vid as always man! I could be wrong but I think the "low leg" position you talked about is quite similar to a move Tommy Langaker uses called the "keymaster" if you wanna check it out. He uses it to enter kguard/matrix :)

    The foot to the outside (on the far hip while you are supine, what you noticing they are getting to from the low leg) is called “Keymaster”. Langaker and Espen use it a lot

    Awesome video analysis once again Jake !!!
    I would like to add also another type of frame that Diego pato uses (we trained for almost a Week together and was an eye opening frame for my guard retention ) he is side ways one leg straight other leg bent in chest and his arm , elbow inside that bent leg so everytime someone tries to control or pas the leg he has to deal with arm frame and vice versa . I can post it for you if you like!
    By the way the self frame has been used Initially I believe by Rafa mendes where he taught that in the AOJ initial platform many years ago and to this day you see him doing it all the time

      Right on with the mendes bros. I train at a place in Minneapolis that looks at a lot of AOJ stuff and we worked on this self frame for a whole week not too long ago. It’s tricky to incorporate. But that’s why it’s ‘high level’ right. We litetallt took a whole week looking at this concept 4 classes per day, for 6 days. Love how my intructor goes deep on the details like this.

      Right now the database has about 300 matches that I have annotated so I just search "self frame" and the matches come up which makes it easy. As this database develops and more people can enter data, I think it will just get easier

    03:19 something that I think should be mentioned Gordon does not like this grip from a butterfly half guard because it exposes you to the Darce. The same is not true in regular half guard because you can time it and counter with a knee lever. I will assume it is also fine to use it from a full butterfly like Giancarlo did here

    • @adamgillespie3393
      @adamgillespie3393 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I think because the second hook would let you sweep them towards the side you would ordinarily knee lever, so it's ok. So I suppose a weakness of butterfly half is that it lacks that sweeping direction.

    I believe the guard passing will get so good that bjj will evolve into who can get top game and the guards will he more just transitional positions to try to sweep or get on top. The more bjj gets popular and the more athletic guys start coming into the sport the top games of the athletic guys will get so rough and explosive most guys wont be able to operate on the bottom. Athleticism will change the game.

    Interested in your analysis of the Half-Granby type retention / realignment.

      I have seen Gordon's turtle defense instructional but have not studied much. He talks about it a bit in there. If I remember correctly he emphasizes the control they have over your near shoulder. Basically if you try to do the granby when they have control over your near shoulder you are giving your back but if not then you should have success

    A good guard is a crucial part of anybody's game, but for showbiz... nobody wants to see one guy spin around on their back the whole match anymore. Thats what the popularity of ADCC has proved. To grow the sport, people want to see alpha male shit, & if you can be on your back for a bit & get a sub, then cool. Otherwise work to get top position & put on a more dynamic show.
