I'm a huge Croce fan. Have been since 73. I remember hearing the news of his passing on my favorite AM radio station, CKLW Detroit/Windsor. I was totally devastated at 13 years old. Jim and Maury's music will never die. Two of the finest musicians who ever lived. RIP.
My sister Debbie and take road trips and sing his songs over and over. I love Jim and always will. May he rest in peace and intertain the folks a head of us.
Thank you for sharing this genius with us. I remember when he died. That next morning, while walking into my highschool, you could hear a pin drop... that's what Jim meant to my generation. Respect for a great talent... Thanks for posting and for the memories...
@Kay Gowen Very much so. That’s all my good friend Ceasar would play in his car. Ceasar clipped the “sad tragic news,” from the local paper & showed it to me. 1980 & Ceas was still playing Jim Croce’s Albums. Devoted fan @ 15-16 yrs. old.
He came across as such a humble guy who simply loved what he was doing. And Maury, he never said anything, but he must have known how indispensable he was.
Stanley TryHard as a guitar player, Maury wouldn’t have been easily replaceable. He left a big mark on a lot of Jim’s songs. He’s extremely underrated as a guitarist.
And to think his dad told him to get a job that he was wasting his time doing music. To me Jim is the best singer song writer ever, just listen to all the songs, he recorded, I'm still finding songs I've never heard so glad he continued his dream.
His lyrics were great and his chords were beautiful, but you never get the impression he was trying to be clever. It’s that laid-back sincerity that makes him stand out as one of the greatest ever.
I came to know about Jim Croce through a cover of Operator done by one of the best musicians I've ever come across in TH-cam .Josh Turner Guitar and of course his friend Carson McKee .they now go by the name The other favorites .My favorite so far is these dreams of Jim Croce .i play a bit of acoustic guitar and I admire Maury's work on Every song of Jim .May their souls rest in peace .Their songs will live forever .
I've loved him for 48 years...remembered exactly where I was when I heard he had died...I was 19 and thought God how could this happen...Had he lived he'd still be making music like James Taylor and others of his era!!
“It’s a nice feeling having a Number One record,” said Croce two months ago. “It’s a strange feeling. After having played for such a long time I don’t even know how to describe it.” “I’ve had to get in and out of music a couple of times, because music didn’t always mean a living. You don’t make that much in bars; I still have memories of those nights, playing for $25 a night, with nobody listening.”
Thank you Nat. As you see I'm not very successful attracting Croce fans on TH-cam. However if you're a true Croce fan my facebook page titled Fans of Jim Croce by upperdarbybill is having 8,000 reaches a week. I have support from Jim's family and that makes me happy. It's filled with never before published photos and concert video clips some not seen in 40 years.
When you hear it ring, but don't know where it came from....from a gentle-generous heart formed from the hard, the harsh, the burning....only Love survives...base your belief on that! 👂🤙✌
WTF, when did it change from "Well I really Got to Hand it to ya" to "You'll really got to hand it to ya". The Mandela Effect does not Frack with Jim Croce, switch it back now.
No truckload of amplifiers, no soundboards, no computer effects, no pyrotechnics. Just a guitar and raw talent.
I wish I had had it, but I loved music
That is why it feels like there voice really touching our ear
That is how Greek Philosophy define beauty; that is, simplicity.
2 guitars
This is pure talent..❤

Very similar for me. I was 11 and heard it on my favorite AM station that morning, WABC NY.
I was 15. I had just bought "You Don't Mess Around with Jim". I was crushed. Still love Jim to this day.

I was standing in a drug store when Walter Cronkite announced that he had died in a plane crash. My heart broke.

My first album was in 1973. Life and Times.
We lost a beautiful person that made the most beautiful music

Maury also wrote the Salon and Saloon which Jim sang with a piano accompaniment.
Just gorgeous! Imagine all the music he would have made if he was alive today.
And to think his dad told him to get a job that he was wasting his time doing music. To me Jim is the best singer song writer ever, just listen to all the songs, he recorded, I'm still finding songs I've never heard so glad he continued his dream.
We loved singing this when I was a kid!

What these two had waiting for them if they hadn't passed away is unimaginable. It's hard to understand sometimes.
