Looking forward to FiF's return!
So glad this show exists
Sham=fang, Shir=Lion not Tiger which would be Babr. Shamshir=Lion's Fang ... FYI and cheers for the video.
Eee
7:21 was that a goose
The old dude did the entire strength test himself
Exactly dude chipped through a block of wood and other stumps/logs
@Geo Educator no
@Geo Educator nope
Chopped into a Log lol
Tim seems like the kind of guy that would be a cool neighbor.
Hey neighbor just made a Persian sword! Wanna go chop down a tree? :D
That laugh tho
Hahaha I was thinking the same thing but I guess I wouldn't like to get on his bad side 🤣🤣
Some beers and whiskey might help bring out the humor!
Before I was even started the vid I saw this comment and immediately knew who u where talking about without even knowing their names
Just be aware that Tim’s handle is historically correct with the wire wrap. If he looked at a museum piece for the design, then thats probably why its on there. he should not have been called on that.
To be fair, the historical examples we see have the wire tightly wrapped and flush with the rest of the handle, whereas his had it over the rest of it, creating a ridge that may not be comfortable
Tim should have won, if for nothing else than that fantastic laugh of his.
It's "forged in fire" not "funny laugh in fire" 🤗
Tim is like an awesome grandpa
How about not putting spoilers in the comments
Spoiler much... smdh
@@samholdsworth3957 stop ruining the joke.
Shamshir is a Persian word for "Sword" and we use it to refer to any kind of sword. But it's actually a two part word with "Sham" meaning "Nail" or "Claw" and "Shir" meaning "Lion".
İt is Turkish sword it's yelman is same with Turkish Heavy kilij u can see Ottoman and Seljuk Sultans wielding that sword not persians
İn history books it is Turkish sword
@@dinojedi4786 shamshir was made by Iranians of Khorasani
@@dinojedi4786it was persian but gained popularity with the turks
That's the same as Talwar.
In India, we call any sword as Talwar. These foreigners don't know that.
Bring Tim back! he made a great weapon and he's entertaining.
Tim totally deserved the win just cuz he’s fabulous
Miller High Life they’re called reactions for a reason they’re not called expectations bud
@@millerhighlife6722 bruh you are literally reading comments on an episode not like a short clip of some long movie or series.
people are talking about this specific video only, which is obviously what comments are for
I love how Tim laughs like Gimli
Making me nostalgic😭
Maybe he's an incarnation of Gimli
The other guy made much better weapon, he was going to win, it's a shame his sword took a slight bend at the end. :(
Yup. He had it in the net till then
that's the definition of worse its better until it didn't last as long or perform as well as the other one. the other guys was better not as sharp but was so durable and didn't lose sharpness if you lose sharpness its no good if it starts out sharper but gets duller quicker
@@maxortega8073 Yeah, but it wasn't the original design anymore. I can also make a sabre or a sword 20% thicker and then win these contests with ease. They should give them a weight that they must not exceed.
@@emmepombar3328 i didn't say it was I just said it functions better than the other sword I don't care if you could make a better one that's not the contest its who of the 2 makes a better sword not in the world if you didn't notice.
@@maxortega8073 you missed the point. Tims was a historically accurate shamshir while the other guy just made a saber with exaggerated curve. It wasn't about how he could do it better but about the general bias in the show towards towards hard chunks of metal because of the flashy nature of the tests. Used properly the lighter shamshir would be devastating from horseback. Just don't aim for the skull.
3:56
Yes we are
Yeah!
🟧⬛
I love it when one blade seems to cut effortlessly and the other blade looks even more effortless
1:37 when he laughed for a second I thought that was Kawhi Leonard Lol
Damascus: **exists**
Every smith on this show: “I’m gonna go a little wild and make Damascus “
IKR?
Tim should have won, his blade was superior.
Prettier, but not superior, Tim's bent
His blade bent the other blade did not It definitely looked overall like the better weapon though.
@@stabbinfatties9489 look at the last hit, the skull shifts and they hit the hardwood stand aswell as the skull. Tim had the superior blade.
@@mikeyjay008 Andrew's hit the stand too, it went completely through the skull. I actually thought that was going to be why Andrew lost, but his edge stayed true after completely demolishing that horse skull. It was better.
@@b_f_d_d I would like to know what the weight difference was. Real swords were not heavy. You could find yourself having to swing the thing for hours in a real battle. It was a huge balancing act to to make a sword that was strong enough and light enough and balanced enough and able to defeat armor well enough. Almost no sword perfectly manages all of the competing requirements.
In this show they abuse a sword for a few minutes. That makes heavier weapons better for the show. They were not necessarily better in real life situations.
Thank you so much guys for introducing and amazing Iranian weapon, Shamshir.
The map in the background belongs to Safavid empire, a Persian empire, from early 16th to mid 18th century AD.
Azerbaijan empire
@@_kakashi6__ nah just Iranian!
@@_kakashi6__ my grand father is older than Azarbaijan 😂 those are Iranian lands which Iran lost to Russia, even the name of Azarbaijan comes from Azarabadegan 100℅ Iranian ethnicity, btw my grand father is Azari himself and I'm proud to be half Azari
@@armin_z2444 Azerbaijan>Armenia and Iran 😂
@@_kakashi6__ yep both of them are for Iran :) but real Armenia was near Van lake!!! And after genocide they moved there although they used to be Iran's neighbor since Parthian Empire, Azarbaijan was the second heart of Iran throughout history and one part of iran, I don't hate you or anything like that. I just think you are unaware of history because of propaganda! If you just can tell me what is the root of the name of Azarbaijan I can accept that it's not a made-up county by super powers in the 20th century.
I don’t usually disagree with the judges but on this one... oof
It was close, but I would have picked the second blade.
if his blade hadnt warped and had edge damage
Why though? It had less edge damage, performed better in the kill test and had a more intricate blade. A horse back saber should be relatively heavy as well for chopping so that really isn't a factor.
@@daniel96jg no one asked for a fancy blade. He should have put more time into the grip and keeping the weight low. Shamshir were not primarily cavalry weapons, this agility and being able to wield for a while is essential.
@@edi9892 maybe no one asked for a fancy blade but no one asked for one that bends and looses edge like that either
As soon as that guy said he was going to make Damascus Steel I thought it was over for him. Guess I was wrong.
Fun fact: shamshir literally means sword in Persian so when you say shamshir sword, all I hear is sword sword
Doug: "Your Shamshir just became a Sham-WOW."
Doug will be here aaaall week, ladies and gentlemen!
I like how everyone in the comments thinks tim should have won just because he's a wholesome dude... and I 100% agree, tim deserved that win.
Anyone concerned with how close the one dudes forge is to his wooden wall?
I think it's kinda weird how not a single smith has ever overreacted and almost all of them were completely calm or could put on a pokerface... is it because they need patience for their jobs that they're so calm?
They need to be calm imo. If they start panicking, a lot of accidents could happen in the shed. Dude burned his t-shirt but kept his composure. If it was me I would be screaming and wailing around (*_*)
Tennis players need to learn from em
All my wish is to 3 judge's test the final round weapons equally.
I loved Tim's energy and smile, he's amazing⚔️
Thanks for keeping the literal history/provenance section in, it's always interesting.
Yeah that's what I wanted, SHAMSHIR
I LOVE YOU ALLLLL, TY SO MUCH HISTORY CHANNEL,
ALL IRANIANS LOVE YOU AND WE SUPPORT YOU,
FROM IRAN
Tim is my favorite guest on the show by far down to earth and somebody you would like to sit down with and toss back a couple cold ones
7:19 when they tell me to smile
3:30 wtf
Lol he pulled that out with his bare hand!
Sideways quenching is usually done for lower temperatures. It has to be. So it doesn't "flame". That would be very dangerous.
@@InspectahPatio lol
This was a really close match & I think they both deserved to win!
7:16 Doug’s jokes are the best
Man I was pulling for Tim. Being from NC and right around the corner from Angier I might be biased but I thought his was better! Lol
Being a Marylander I agree with you
Yo that's crazy there's people from angier is on here
Yep! I was pulling for him too! I thought his was actually better!
Maratha Talwar (Dhop), It will be very interesting to see how this weapon perform. As this sword forged its way in 17th century in western ghats of India.
Man it looked like the Tim's blade hit the steel mount which the skull was mounted to. What a bummer. I think Tim's blade should have won.
7:15 (squidward laugh)
In fact the word "Shamshir" is the Farsi(Persian) translation of sword.
Thanks for your great video 👍🏻🇮🇷

Tim's laugh is highly infectious 😂 I want to buy this guy a beer!
Tim perfected the skill of laughing in class without the teacher knowing who is laughing 1:37
His laugh. His laugh!!! 🤣🤣🤣
I love Tim's laugh. His laugh made me laugh
shamshir actually means lion's tail not tiger's.
sham= tail/claw shir= lion

shamshir(شمشیر)
its persian (iran) sword and old word
SHAM Means nails or tail (I said that the word is old)
SHIR Means lion
SHAMSHIR Means Lions nail or Lions tail.I'm persian and i think lions tail is true👌
قمه and خنجر and قداره another old persian wapons
Nice to see they brought back the historic background clips
Thanks whoever commented asking for the history back in these videos the other day, and thanks whoever runs the channel for listening to the community.
Tims laugh makes this whole episode
Why does everybody have technical issues in every final episode? 😂
That laugh bro, it's contagious.
2:42 should be a meme
His laugh at 3:04 is worth a million bucks😂😂
I normally always skip the part where the dudes are working on making their blade, but I watched this one carefully just to see Tim's laugh
Old fellas laugh is the best 😂
Anybody else see the swapped out footage of the two swords at 5:52 ?
You'll see the brass cross guard instead of the matte steel/silver of the sword that is supposed to be used at the time. It gets switched back to footage of the first one at the third fish after an edit cut. Back to the matte steel.
The old dude’s entire shed is a massive fire hazard
It is so disappointing for somone like me that have no idea and knowledge about my ancestors' weapon but some foreigners know better than us.
Thank you very much. this video pushed me to read more about this sword.I have seen it before but didn't have any idea about the history of shamshir.
It's a very nice design for a slashing weapon that can still thrust.
Tip of blade is in same level like handle, that's why u can make such good thrust
tim laugh is 😂😂😂😂😂
They need to do an episode where they make a pala
You can tell Doug is the one titling all the Forged and Fire TH-cam videos
Tim has a beautiful handle on his sword
that was a close fight
Tim's laugh is one to rival Joerg Sprave
I rewatched the making of section just to hear it

Beautiful
I used to live in Angier, NC.
Kawhi laughing at 1:36 🙃😂
Yeah I don't believe someone would hack a horse head and say " that dulled my blade". It's expected when you do that. My broadheads are sharpened before every hunt.
Tim shows absolutely no movement during laughter
I'm just here for the "keel" test
So both swords will keeeel
the legend who won will a heavy sword without his opponent's sword breaking
'Iam gonna do Damascus'
Dude, impressive. Did you see those warriors from Hammerfell? They have curved swords...CURVED SWORDS!
Tim the master of fake laughs 😂
That was close! They didn't give the usual explanation as to why they chose one sword over the other. I assume because Tim's sword took a slight bend?
I wish my university teacher said this after seeing my project!
I want to have a beer with Tim.
Nice
Shout out to tim make our state look good👍🏾
Persia has so nice weapons
imagine the vegan teacher saw this ahahhaah
tim deserved that win way more.
What do they do with all those chopped backstraps?
Tim reminds me of the guy in plants vs zombie lmao
man tim should have won, his sword did really well but that dent at end was bad, sad.
Mora like a twist of the while Blade than a dent, but yup, he sure performed better
Every Forged in Fire contestent: "I'm going to use Demascus, I think it will set my blade apart."
2:30 first of all dont stand there XD second just buy a leather aprin or something
No one:
Mah dude: "EhEhehHehHe"
0:20 it actually means lion's tale, not tiger's
In persian sham means tale and shir means lion
There can be a second price for making the participants more intrested. Both have put more effort and it has to be rewarded.
7:21 Canada goose sound efect
That's a complicated sword to make quickly
That was also a Skanderbegs sword one of the best general on history
Tim’s laugh reminds me of Kawhis
