No. Takes too long to implement. Key requirement means if a teacher has misplaced or doesn't have the key the device is useless. Too many moving parts create more opportunity to failure and require too much maintenance. Also there are too many steps to get it to work. There are much stronger devices out there that can be implemented in a matter of seconds. Teachers should not be the only people in a school who can operate a locking device. Students should be able to very quickly implement them as well if they are not around a teacher or if a teacher has been incapacitated. If this device were to break down for any reason how long would it take to repair? How long would that door's safety be compromised? Ratchets rely on gears that can fail. No, no, no. There are cheaper device out there with less moving parts (some have none) and are mush easier to install.

I think a key code lock system with an internal battery might be better than having a lock and key, that way they can say the codes over the intercom in case of an emergency and students can have access to it if they're alone in their room. I agree with it being locked up though. Students could possibly mess around and lock the door on the teacher

Are class room doors have locks on them

Just curious. I'm not criticizing this as if it works, I'm sure it'll be appreciated by the many lives that it saves, and I'm all for saving lives.
I'm just curious. If the assailant already has a gun, say, a shotgun, couldn't they just blow out the locks or even just the hinges?

SinnerAvarice Maybe, but I imagine that some shooters might want to move on quickly to an unopened room or not be able to shoot the lock or the hinge off. It also delays a shooter giving more time for emergency responders to arrive and stop the assailant.

Awesome investment! When the shooters looks through either of the 2 huge floor to ceiling windows right next to the door, he probably will move on and not bother that room.....😐😐

I came here to say exactly this. The outer doors of the school in Nashville were locked. The shooter shot the glass out a walked right in.

    Could you just have locks?

This can be left with the top open. Not only that but the metal cover is very flimsy, like cardboard. So, an assailant could easily pry it open with a screwdriver and secure a classroom to pull mayhem. And, classroom doors need to be able to be unlocked from the outside by police and fire fighters with a key or other credential. This device doesn't allow police and firefighters to enter should they need to.

The inventor must have either been a trucker or a boater. Cinching the door tight like that makes it impossible to act on growing tolerances and weaknesses. Very smart.
Deployment is a little slow, and relies totally upon the teacher's presence. If she is away for any reason the system is rendered completely useless. STRICT instruction regarding its absolute CRISIS USE ONLY should be made available to all students and faculty, and thus the unit made available to all at all times.
All the comments about glass fail to respect that is industrial wire safety glass which is very hard to shatter. Plus there is a strong crossbar in the center dividing it into two smaller, stronger windows.

Your thoughts are in teh right place, but this is useless. Teachers will panic and there are too many moving parts under that kind of stress. Not only that but the cable might be strong but the screws holding the latch on teh door are very weak and will easily pull out of the door when pulled on with full force. There are really way more ways to secure the door. But Im glad you are thinking of protectng the kids thanks for that

If there is a fire, how are the fireman suppose to get in?

    • @aandyherr817

You could say the same thing for regular locks... if there's locks, HOW DO YOU GET IN? Well if there's a fire you'd unlock it after the threat is gone. This thing can't lock it's self, so- there's the answer to your silly question!

Why would you lock if there’s a fire? What was your thought process?

Does no one realize doors are easily shot in with an ar15

Does no one realize who complains that buying time is the #1 factor of stopping a mass shooter or terrorist?

Or just add string bolts to every door. This system requires added work with no real benefit.

Sad that this is needed, but I'm glad teachers are thinking of ways to protect their students. Gun control and better mental health access would help a lot though.

Useless device if have gun they could blow that door off the hinges

    • @aandyherr817
      @aandyherr817 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Takes time to blow off, Tho it can be done. Slowing down a active shooter or terrorist gives time and capabiltiy for students to plan a escape or attack even if it's a few seconds! Bottom line you can't say it's bad.
The "active shooter" could just plant C4 everywhere... but it hasn't happened and wont. These shooters are cowards and looking for easy pickings. Locked doors are bad for them, a locked door that's further secured with a rachet and gear that won't budge is even worse for them.
There's a pattern, they want QUICK kills, this isn't a war where we have time and tools to open doors. If the shooter wants to open a door no device is going to stop them.
