This is so infuriating. How could you expect a CHILD to interpret. The kids were crying and afraid, she was confused and couldn't even sign to her babies. SMH he needs to be fired immediately. No one should be treated like this.

I'm outraged that the cops didn't have the sense to handle something that any reasonable person would know to handle differently.

Unfortunately, this sort of thing is all too common in hospitals as well. And it doesn't matter what language either, whether we're talking about ASL, Spanish, or Swahili. Medical staff and police very often do not provide language access.

I’m sorry to see that. Police should not pull you out of vehicle with out permission. And police broken ADA law too. I’m sick my stomach.
It is a fact cannot use children as interpreter.. its says so in DOJ document, police departments nowadays taking the matters in their own hands forcing relatives, kids involvement as it discriminated their rights to say their side of story. Hearing person goes against the deaf, more likely deaf person get charged or arrested. Deaf or hard of hearing person been refused effective communication. I personally been arrested for asking for interpreter, charged unjustified charges by city of Arvada Police who decided we don’t need interpreter. Stalked us I. Place of employment, dog walk, shopping. Just to document our way of communication, EVEN, broke into our home to document our communication devices and testing while we were gone. Neighbors gave us heads up. It’s a fact police uses city flagging system to get back to the suspects. I’m one of the victims.

The owner and the cop was the one to blame .can she sue the owner and the cop question why arrested her both should be awarded for mental or fear for children and mother life.
You would think this is common sense from the most basic situations to the more serious ones. paper and pen, or use the phones notepad. I'm sure the officer had both on hand. A child should never be asked to interpret, or be responsible for how the parent interacts, communicates, or responds.

I don't have any police training but even I can figure out that it is better to use a shared language medium like writing or texts on phone screens than to ask a child to interpret in a stressful situation.
I hate to say it but cops have either low levels of critical thinking across the board or they just want to be bullies.
