- The Hunt: Alien vs. Predator was a 1991 script draft for a film based on the Alien vs. Predator franchise, written by Peter Briggs. Briggs was the first person to undertake the project, although after his script was rejected development of the film would stall for almost a decade. His story bears no relation to Alien vs. Predator as it was ultimately made, and is instead based more closely on the original Aliens vs. Predator comic book by Dark Horse Comics. When the project was finally picked up, it was followed by the first draft of what would become the final shooting script, written by Paul W. S. Anderson and Shane Salerno.

@@jeggsonvohees2201 I remember reading an article in a magazine way back in the 90s that covered this script and why it was passed on. The main reason was the budget as the first draft was budgeted to be around $100million, way too much than Fox would willingly want to pay.

Ofcourse those sounded great on paper aswell. Its the execution that has been lacking. Here is a small hope that Disney now owns soo much properties and gave examples of what works and doesn't they throw away some exspandable Avengers money at someone who truly loves the franchise and let them make something pretty ....

@@tronovonflidder775 its not really "basically the same script" one is in the future and has more elements from aliens one is set in modern times and has elements from fanfiction, also it really wouldn't have been hard to execute in the mid 90s there was already 2 alien movies with wide beautiful sets aliens and alien 3 it would likely look better practical than something with a modern cgi overly clean aesthetic

This was basically the first Aiens vs. Predator comics as a script but they used the idea from Alien3 of the Xenos taking on the characteristics of their hosts. I wish this was the one that was made.
I had this book, soooo much better than the story they used for the first AVP
With the right director, and creative team behind it, I think this could have been a great film to see.
The AVP franchise needs to be rebooted!! They could make some truly awesome movies!!
I wish we got this version instead of the one we actually got. It resembles the first comics and the female character is far more interesting. Not to mention that we would see more of predator society if they went ahead and had her temporarily join her clan. They could have still done the whole 'they've been visiting earth before' despite this being in the future by a piece of archaeological excavation they find in whatever colony they are that resembles a recent find on earth. The avp works much better in the future then it does in present timeline.

AVP arcade was a tie in game for a movie that was being made or going to be made, but it never moved forward, the was finished and ready to go, so they released it regardless.
Thus was born my favorite arcade game.
I'd love to see this movie made or one based on avp arcade.

Alien vs Predator could have been the Endgame of science fiction if it was handled properly
That would have been the movie that revitalizes the franchise. We need that story told. It was one of the best selling comic series and it would have made an awesome movie. Expanding in the AVP universe and taking it off planet Earth for the first time. It's too bad they didn't make it. I would have loved to see it.

I remember seeing a lot of news related to this in the 90s , Roland Emerich was going to direct this - it would have been awesome compared to the lower scaled AvP movies we did get later.
Ya def agreed with future of franchise should be set in the future, possibly with a weyland yutani crew, wasnt a huge fan of avp, but this is something I would definitely watch
Combine this with the most recent nightmare we got called The Predator I firmly believe that Fox hates the Predator and Alien franchises and thought hey let's kill both by destroying everything we know and love about them and everything that makes them unique must go and Prometheus was green lighted. I want to scream over the joke once beloved Alien and Predator have become. It's time to let fans back in and not out of touch idiots that want to destroy the core of both franchises.
That script would make an awesome film, one day we may be lucky and it makes it to the big screen. As already mentioned, you have a very good narrating style which would be ideal for audio books.
Very worthy story form the comics and the books. It is sad that FOX never saw the potential of this early script run, and could have gone with it. Disney being who they are, might reboot the two franchises in several years. If so, if they can pull a Marvel movie-verse and have each movie tie in and build off the other, it might work. To keep a larger audience, Disney could plaster a PG-13 rating on these films. I would hate it if they did, bu only to re-design the creatures in a poor manner. Time will tell with check books and scripts.
And as always, the really awesome stuff that could have been masterpieces is what they never use. This movie I had loved to see & own.

According to cannon this only happens if it royal jelly is used in tandem. Also, any alien had the capacity to produce one egg, kinda like a 'survival of the species' thing.

This is like word for word S. D. Perry's Aliens vs Predator: Prey. Even all the names. Shocked you didn't mention this Mr. H. It obviously must be the direct screenplay to her novel.
The novel is based off of the comic book, as is the script. The comic with this story came first.

Sounds like just the AvP we needed, and how it should've been done. I.e. use the comics as source material especially AvP: War. I think the 3 World War story arc would've made for a great sequel had this film been made
Well, I have to disagree with the part of the script that says 'the Xenomorph is worthy prey, one of the best hunts the Yautja can face', I've said this before, for me, the Aliens fall way too easily to the Predators in most of the confrontations we've seen, hardly worthy prey - that said, in this script at least, it sounds like when their numbers are greater, the Aliens, all be it 'hybrid' takes on them, seem more formidable & give the Predators a harder time - but I can't shake the feeling that like the comic it's based heavily on & as in the hunt described at the start, the Predators are bored with hunting the Alien because it's not a challenge for them & as such, it would just go down the same route as other AvP projects, both comic book & movies alike, with the Alien frequently getting it's butt kicked quite comfortably by the Predators.

Why the hell didn't we get this I grew up reading the Dark Horse Comics this is what I want even if they did a small vignette thing like the Sin City movie just a bunch of short stories pulled directly from the comics it would be awesome here we go I had to pull out my Predator omnibus comics short stories would be, right of passage God's truth, maybe the hunted City it's a little long but I think it would fit what else there's, Invaders from the fourth dimension another long one but I like it it's not bad and definitely 1718 what the hell come on Disney please, strange roux, no Beast so fierce, and bump in the night. that would be my list but I only have the first three omnibus volumes but those are be good short stories for the Predator franchise

I wouldn't mind a few more AVP films.
I agree that the next few films should be done in a near future to AVP 2 if not far off into a distant future, but I get what you are saying. Part of what works is the Futuristic Military and Aerospace Technology. I just don't personally need it to be Nostromo/Prometheus tech or timeline.
In fact, i would like a story or two of a planetary invasion of Xenomorph so we can see how the Xenomorph could overrun an entire planet 🌎 (Earth Wars comic style). A few of those back to back movies would be a nice addition to the franchise for me. The population doesn't even need to be human. Imagine a narrated story of how/why an entire species could reprell a Xenomorph attack and were forced to flee their home world. Different continents and native wild life aggressively and sometimes slowly over taken. The different tactics the xenomorph could employ.
Hell, why not a TV/Netflix-ish series. I just like Xeno a lot.

Hey HN Entertainment if they reboot Alien versus Predator I hope they can finally use the script that was written by Peter Briggs for the Alien Vs. Predator reboot call The Hunt Alien Vs. Predator movie.
This would make a great 3rd AVP film, I know the first 2 weren't great, but I do like them, maybe with a little tweaking, they can adapt this storyline, link to all three franchises (Predator, AVP and Alien) together, even finding a way to link it to the "Prometheus" universe as well, wouldn't hurt...

Avp movies in my opinion are the best, and they shouldn't have cancelled
AVP Prey is my favorite book of all time, while the movie might have been watchable, I dislike the changes, with specific call out to Dachande sending a Royal Face Hugger to a the planet. Ruins the strict code of ethic for that character.

I’ve prayed for a avp: prey or a Aliens: Haley’s Hope prequel film but alas...
So this is really a summary of the first AVP novel which I guess was adapted from the script. Cool though.

This would have been great, but ah well....would have loved to have seen Hiroku Noguchi in action. I thought Anderson's AVP was fine but The Hunt would have been more of a futuristic story.

I would have like too know more about this, but we still don't know anything about the yautjas, and the xenomorph, we can guess, I understand why the yautjas use the xenomorph for, too become a Hunter. But a lot of us don't understand why.
Sounds like this somewhat brings back the Kenner action line. This would have been awesome to see.

I actually remember reading about this in some magazine years ago, but I forget which one. I think the opening scene took place on a jungle planet.
The script is better than the first AVP, clearly Fox doesn't know what good scripts are. But I'm happy that Fox got inspired by the original script.
To me, AVP is a good film, AVPR was ok.
