    I just brought the striker 4 for $100 with cables, transducer, cover, instructions and even the original box. It’s my first fish finder and it’s going on my kayak. I was really surprised when you said the older model had a better screen and resolution so I’m pretty happy with that.
    Great video by the way.

    There should be more of these side by side comparison videos. Thanks for the upload. Quick draw was important for me living in Michigan's UP where there are many lakes that haven't been charted. I got tired of trying to guess where to fish using hand-drawn DNR depth maps from the 1950s.

    Wow, I wish I knew why they chose to do that with the screens. Even if the larger one were the same resolution it would still look more pixelated because of the pixel density. When you have two displays with the same resolution but one is physically larger the pixels are larger are well and more noticable. They didn't even use the same resolution though, they lowered it slightly which further exaggerates the pixel issue. I'll have to steer clear of the plus version even though the mapping feature is nice but I use navionics for that.

    In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens th-cam.com/users/postUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.

    I’m curious if anyone has used a 12v or 18v cordless tool battery to power their Striker?
    I know the manual says “12-20v”. But I’d much rather use a tool battery I already own then buy another one.
    And I’d like to use the 18v because I have a 12ah M18 battery that should power it for days. That I also have a rapid charger for.

    Any Advantage of transom mounted transducer over motor shaft mounting? Why doesn't the prop motion interfere with the transducer function?

    • @kokoyhawaii
      @kokoyhawaii 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Prop can interfere for units with sidescan. This unit has downscan only, so the beam is pointed down, prop never gets in the way.

    A word of caution on the Garmin Striker 4. You get what you pay for. Mine is 2 years old. It's been nothing but problems. Black screen, shutting off intermittently, not registering speed, water temp and time of day all the time and now the newest is it just says my transducer is not connected. It's been one problem after another. Do yourself a favor, don't get all excited thinking you found a $100 electronic that does the same as a $400 or $500 one. You will be disappointed like me. You get what you pay for.

    I just upgraded to the plus had the a fairy new striker 4 but i got a blob in the screen that would stay there for like 15mins and I l had a drain on the battery when I shut it down so it was still under warranty and I sent it back. I do have a question I bought this for mapping I live on a small lake and this is mounted on my paddle boat I really would like to map the lake for the deeper levels can you map and still use it in the standard mode at the same time if anyone knows?

      it works just like a topo map, you'll have contour lines showing changes in depth, with closer lines being steeper drops and more gradual changes having lines farther apart. Each line will indicate a certain depth, with other lines being either deeper or shallower
