For anyone wondering about the cause of the failures. It was the failure of solder bumps underneath the silicon die of the GPU chip due to bad underfill. This issue was fixed around March 2008

There were many different "red rings" 3 lights meant it was busted. 1, 2 or 4 meant totally different things.

For the longest time, I thought that’s a red ring of death with some sort of countdown in the Xbox, like after a few years or so of use it would die and you would have to buy a new one and that’s how the companies monopoly was made, I was so terrified of getting the red ring of death after my second Xbox to the point where I left it unplugged after multiple periods of time thinking that it would stop the timer or something, glad to know it’s just some hardware issue that you could probably prevent on your own

I remember getting the rrod the xbox would not work until 2 years later I have no idea why so I ended up taking it apart until you could see where the disk was spinning and used burned games never used my newer xbox after that still got both of them

Believe it or not, none of my Xbox consoles have ever had this issue. I got the 360 Kinect when I was 5, the One S when I was 10, and the Series X this year at 16. No Ring over those 11 years; not even the overheating one. And I will say, the One S has been left on for 72 straight hours before, namely when I did my Sims marathon… It’s also stayed on for days on end when I didn’t want to lose progress because Quick Resume didn’t apply to that console yet.

@@PonkosEhh In retrospect, I suppose he did explain what it was, just not what caused it. It is more of a video for someone young or who wasn't familiar with what the RROD was at the time. However, he initially says "remember when the red ring of death happened? you have to go through hoops and most were never fixed." so he just doesn't say what the root cause was, when the root causes were so widely known, along with the fixes. You need to go into baking your board to reflow solder. Also I agree I am nothing.
