Your large print blouse, which I've lately seen described as making older women look "frumpy", makes you look vibrant and alive. So much for the popular styling "rules"!
This reminds me of how I used to dress some 15 years ago before social media! When I would choose clothes using my instinct, a long mirror, a sense of who I was and years of experience which went before and ended up with a wardrobe that suited my life etc. Since those times there have been too many influences which have altered my choices subsequently me arriving in a pickle with my wardrobe. It has taken me a long time and lots more mistakes to realise what had happened!! So you really are a breath of fresh air and delightful to watch, thank you. X
Thank you Diana. It is so easy to be influenced by social media, there is always a “must have” that you see everyone wearing. But I try to encourage wearing what makes you feel good and confident and I believe it should be fun too 😘
Thank you, Maria. Looking forward to the accessories video already! I've worked out that I don't feel 'myself' in bold florals, as they wear me, rather than me wearing them! And that analagous colours look best on me. Just need to come up with 3 or 4 keywords. I've been loving this little series of quite practical 'how to' videos that you've done.
Thank you I am so pleased you are enjoying the videos 😊 it sounds like you are well on the way to defining your personal style. Let me know if you have questions 😀
One new style idea that you inspired is the look of a neutral top and bottom worn with a colorful dress as a duster ! I have an extra long flowy shirt that I was wondering how to style and voila! I wear a topper on all but the hottest of days , and this adds a new style element to my “ uniform “ of pants, top, and topper ! So thank you for that !
Thank you for another wonderful video! My style has changed a great deal over the years, and it is changing again after losing nearly 50 pounds. I am a recovering compulsive shopper, so it is very important for me to identify my current style to avoid future clothing mistakes. I’m going to take your suggestion and identify my favorite items today and try to pin down my style rather than continuing to buy whatever catches my eye. Thank you for the inspiration!
Another great informative video. I like your approach of not putting people in boxes. In the past I have done those quizzes to come up with key style words but think your method is easier and more constructive. I am going to give it a go.
I live your styling and videos, Maria. When I was in my early twenties (now 60), our mother treated my sister and me to a professional color analysis. The resulting “Summer” (cool, muted) palette has worked really well for me, but if I like a color that’s not in it, I wear it anyway. I added some beige and browns this season, and I love them, but I do look for cooler and softer versions of these colors, and find them flattering. The analysis I had done as the original “Color Me Beautiful” and it as great. There are some crazy schemes around now, like one I saw on YT that said “cool toned people have long faces”, what the heck?
Great advice as always, Maria ! I have purchased garments instinctually, but when I think about the reasons why , I come up with my style formula - variety of color, along with neutrals , a Ralph Lauren Preppy classic vibe, but updated with softly structured garments in softer fabrics , like a collared shirt as a topper, but in a colored flowy fabric , rather than a woven stiff fabric, especially for warm and hot months ! Comfort, yes ! I can’t wear heels anymore due to old knees , and speaking of those knees , they are no longer for public display, nor are my upper arms ! So long shorts or culottes are key for hot weather, despite them being considered less than flattering . I still like a classic polished look when leaving the house - leather belt shoes and bag in the Autumn and more tailored items in that season too. Staying classic, but current and not dull can sometimes be a challenge ! I have been a mostly pants wearer, but would like to try some Summer dresses or flowy skirts with a slightly wedged shoe . I have to really watch the shoe heel elevation because of the knee issue. I feel that an all pants wardrobe, even if different lengths , can get a bit stale , so I am ready for a bit of a style reconsideration ! I really prefer that gauzy muted scarf on you - I see your face instead of the bright colors in your top , but you have to dress in what pleases you ! Personality enters into this whole equation !
Lots of great tips again Maria. I do agree with the other petite lady though as I love relaxed clothes but find things swamp me. I have a small waist which I should show off ( my best bit!) but hard to find relaxed tops that also go in at the waist!
Thank you Michelle. Look for a top or dress with a drawstring waist that is relaxed but can still show off your waist. A wrap style would work as well or a top that is elasticated at the waist with a peplum. I hope that helps 😘
I am petite too and this is a problem for me also, I tend to always go for tops which are slim fitting (go down a size if needed) or can be altered either at the seam or given darting to help structure at the waist. I agree it is hard to be in relaxed clothing but don't give up!
I really really enjoy watching you but I have a question. Those white tops that you pulled out are very thin and I am curious as to what type of undergarment you wear under them to keep people from seeing your bra?? Thank you so much for all your informative videos
Thank you. Very interesting and informative.. just like to add that one needs to take one’ s proportions into consideration too. As a woman of 5’ it would not suit me to wear palazzo trousers or wide cut off trousers for example (amongst other things) no matter how much I might like them 😬 so need to tailor my likes around this. I’m sure this will be familiar to many other of us petite ladies.. 🌸🙂
Yes absolutely Denise I think you often don’t like things that don’t suit you because you don’t feel comfortable in them, like me with a stiff shirt. If there is a style you like that you know doesn’t suit you, think about how you might adapt it so that it works 😀

I am thoroughly enjoying this series, Maria...for your lovely personality as much as all the style tips! [love the blue daisy top--that is so me!]
Thank you for your kind comments Pamela 😘

Thank you Christine. Doing it this way means you aren’t trying to fit yourself into a category you are finding words that work for you 😀
Thanks for replying. I feel like you're speaking to me in this video. Great tips and great video. Thanks.
You are welcome 😀I’m so pleased you enjoyed the video

Thank you Sherry, it sounds like you have lots of ideas to work with. Now can you condense it to a maximum of 5 words that sums it all up 😀
Really helpful ,thank You :-)
Thank you, Maria - A really good tip to find 5 things to help decide on my style words - I am off to have a look....! :)
Let me know what you come up with Lynne 😘

So interesting. I'm in my mid 70s & feeling my style likes/dislikes have shifted this year. I think I need some help!
