How refreshing and badly needed your channel is. I have been riding a motorcycle for over 40 years and I always find some nugget in your videos. It does no harm reminding yourself of the basics and not allowing complacency to set in. Thank you for your content.
This is really good advice, and something that ive never yeard anyone talk about. Having the left mirror be out further is a fantastic idea, too! Particularly for merging/on ramps when you're in a lane that isn't parallel to the lanes youre merging into (ie highway onramps). Ive always had both of mine look into that side lane but also behind me, and thats meant there's a lot of circumstances where my left mirror isnt actually usable when I'd like to use it, and you're right: I don't need two mirrors that both look behind me. On ramps, lane changes to the fast lane/passing, hell even leaving parking spots would all be easier with the left mirror angled out a bit further.
I just started riding a month ago. I was struggling with mirror positioning, constantly checking mirrors, the tac, and everything just felt wrong. Of all the beginner rider videos I've watched and after taking the MSF course, mirror placement wasn't mentioned at all so I was scared shitless when changing lanes because I just felt blind. Appreciate the info! Feel a lot more confident about mirror placement and focusing on what's in front of me.
Yup this was very very helpful. I set up my mirrors and now all I do is move my eyes. Wow what a difference this makes, i feel less stressful when i ride. Also, i pulled on the opposite handlebar when i was turning omg, the bike leaned so easily. So i think i get now, just push and pull on the handlebars!
My 08 cbr mirrors are useless for anything but inspecting my shoulders. Got the ugly extender mount things but it still sucks pretty bad. Stupid pinlock visor on my 6d helmet severely obstructs the over the shoulder view too. Might revert to bar end convex mirrors like the old days but that means no more front turn signals without finding some sort of aftermarket option.
As a newer rider, I’m loving your channel and all the tips ya got to help us be more aware. I’ve only been riding a month so still nervous about getting my left hand off the grip let alone do blind spot checks at speed but I believe I have a similar mirror setup already which helps keep my eyes ahead. The only times I really look down now is right before I shift cause I don’t wanna go too high in the rpms/check my speed since I can’t hear shit in my helmet with the visor down lol so I’m trying to get used to the feeling of how fast I’m going or need to be going before having to shift. I appreciate all you’re doing! Ride safe!
Hi! Thanks for the video, I really needed it,I'm a beginner and I have a honda cbr650r and it drives very differently compared to the motorcycle from driving school which was a naked motorcycle. Hey @Skyoom1, I love your videos, very informative and educational. I am a relatively new rider, bought a 23’ Ninja 400 in October 22’ and today it has 12K miles on it, so I do find your content very necessary. In regards to this video specifically, I can understand your mirrors are set up, it makes perfect sense. I tried it for myself, but after having them set up looking straight behind me on both sides, it was very hard to get used to the new set up, and I didn’t feel safe, so I had to change it back to the way it has been since day 1

Another superb explanation, I have never heard of this set up before. Prior to heading out on my bike tomorrow I am going to set up my mirrors as per your advice, but flipped for the UK 🇬🇧, many thanks, cheers Hugh
Very interesting approach, I must give it a try. I set up the mirrors sligtly different way. Left for me is the same as your right, directly behind me, some 30% of it blocked by my left hand, if I want to see more I move my hand inside, not my head. The right one is also directly behind, but tilted up. It has got two purposes. First - I can see through it much better in case I lean to right. And second and more important - I can see through it when I tuck in in high speeds, because then I see almost nothing in the left mirror.
My whole life I've been passenger princess only and I've just got started with bike riding course. Yesterday I was surprised that I couldn't find much info about mirrors setup/use here on TH-cam. And today your video pop-ups on exactly this topic, thank you so much sir!
Was actually wanting some advice on this recently, appreciate the reminder to flip them over since in UK lmao, thanks again for the good tips and great content.
I would love to see a video on tire pressure set up and how to safely raise and lower your tire pressure to test what works. I run a few lbs off of manufacture settings (27/34 on an R3) but I see a lot of riders riding with equal pressure in both tires and I don’t want to over inflate my tires and yeet myself into a corner because I lose grip.
Maaaaan you have no idea the bees nest tire pressure is 😂. I have it as something in a later video to discuss but on the r3 I would personally run it as stock. Will increase longevity and tire profile will feel better. Smaller tires especially a few psi will make a big improvement in feel
I personally set my mirrors up so that both sides show both behind me and the corresponding lane. Just like you would in a car. Have the mirror set so it sees the edge of the rear panel of your car or bike and the neighboring lane. Feel I get a full scope of what is around me without compromising either side. Then again mirror set up is also dependent on the bike. Some bikes just have horrible mirror position. At which point I suggest looking aftermarket.
Ideally I'm thinking to put some little blind spot mirrors on because traffic is bipolar here. We either drive as one, slow, parade mass of cars/scooters/motorcycles, or people come up on you from behind like it's the City Streets Autobahn. What makes it bad is scooter laws force scooters to the right no matter what you're doing-- going straight, turning right, turning left.... so you never know if the Autobahnidiot will be zooming up on you and past on the left or right, so can't really try your offset mirrors.
Just put my stock mirrors back on because the vision from the aftermarket was terrible..went from trynna look cool to trynna see stuff coming up behind me without constant head checks
