    Just did the same thing Chris. Dumped Virgin Media for a Huawei 535. The key for me was to get an external antenna and the speeds doubled. Well worth the investment!

      Good news Barry looking to do the same in few weeks ,is there enough ethernet port on back as looking to hook up my Nvidia shield

    • @barryclack5744
      @barryclack5744 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@oak3ee1 I went for the 535 which has 4 ethernet ports. It has a mesh system (TP lInk M4) to put the wifi around the house and a powerline kit (TP Link PA80 v2) to give a more robust signal to our media centre and TV via a Netgear gigabit ethernet unmanaged switch.

    • @barryclack5744
      @barryclack5744 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just as a tip though, use fast dot com for speed tests and not speedtest dot net. The reason is that ISPs are now ready for tests from speedtest and give it better thru-put to make you think you have a faster un-managed un-shaping broadband speed. Fast is more accurate and has nothing to prove (its owned by Netflix).

    I've just ordered one of these with three. As I was an existing three customer with my mobile phone I got the AI cube for £20 a month, 24 month contract and unlimited data. Very happy with that. The 4G signal in my area with three is very good so should be a lot better than my existing crappy adsl broadband with plusnet which I'll be ditching providing the AI cube works out.
    One question - when you had the device in the loft what was the wifi signal like around the rest of your house on your connected devices? Just wondering if the internal wifi broadcast is good. I presume it has both 2.4 and 5ghz channels? Thanks

    • @ChrisBiddulph
      @ChrisBiddulph  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Stevieboy. Yes it does have 2.4 and 5ghtz. I only put it in the loft because I have google wifi all around the house. If you’ve not got anything like that I would put it as central as you can in your house. Providing you don’t live in a mansion you will be fine. The beauty of this device is you can put it anywhere in your house. Good lock with it, and please let me know how you get on. 😀

      Chris Biddulph yes I asked why not try the upload and download when you are far from the router. Just thought that would be better served. Why test the speed in your loft beside the router, better put router loft and do the check from your office or living room I would have thought.

      @ChrisBiddulph  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Now wouldn’t it have been nicer if you said that in the first place? Instead of calling me a pillock.
      I use google WiFi with it so it works all over the house. The speeds have been great. Hope that helps.

    Very informative regards to peoples broadband have you ever checked your channel on your settings to change it from 1 to 11 these are the sub numbers for speed.
    Like you I’ve also stopped using Plusnet. Not that I was complaining about the lack of service these and many providers are like are all doing the same thing as a rollout program 5G will only work in London as time develops and the network enhances its reach to the UK then people will upgrade from 4G to 5G including their Router.

      Hi Adam & Liz. I’ve had this problem a couple of times too. What fixed it for me is to do a hard reset. You need to get a pin and stick in the reset hole on the underneath. Keep the pin pushed in for about 5 to 10 seconds until the 3 lights go out. Pull the pin out and let the lights sort themselves out. That should sort it. Please let me know how you get on. :) fingers crossed 🤞

    Another maybe more EXPENSIVE option is to buy a Pay As You Go from 3. Pay £35 for one month or £90 upfront, you get 3 months of Unlimited data, minutes, texts. You then can create a "WiFi Hotspot" using your mobile and allow other devices to connect via tethering. Other than using LAN, you have NO CONTACT and you can get to see what speeds you get. Also, if you have a phone with dual SIM... You can put a 3 pay as you go SIM card in and still use your current phone number 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

      Hi Artur
      I’m not sure I understand the question. The AIcube needs a 4G signal. It has nothing to do with fibre. It creates a wifi hotspot.

    The Ai cube is great and the google Wi-Fi works well with it. I guess one of your google Wi-Fi hub is close and connected to the gigabit switch in the attic and the rest are around the house.
    I might put mine in the attic as well to get rid of cables in the house if the signal is better than were is currently placed. 👍

      The ping is quite high on 4G - it isn't meant for gaming. You could use the 4G connection for all other devices though and your broadband would then be dedicated to gaming only -- I even stream 4K films with the AICube and it isn't an issue!
