Olivia Rodrigo Accused of Copying 'SNL' Performance Concept

- Olivia Rodrigo is quickly becoming one of the biggest stars on the planet. However, the spotlight is on her “Saturday Night Live” tea party performance. Singer Noelle Denton says the performance looks similar to one of her music videos. The pop artist who records music under "Noelle Sucks" took to social media to express her disbelief. Inside Edition’s Les Trent has more.
If that’s the case, then they both copied Melanie Martinez lmao
I was literally going to say this took the words right out of my mouth
Melanie Martinez copied Florence and the Machine
@@CesarJoel94the loop never ends
Tea Party is originally connected to Alice in Wonderland. This concept has been going on for more than 100 years
And they all copied Lily Allen lol
Key word “she thinks.” The tea party or acting rowdy at a tea party theme has been done many times.
Can you name 3 music videos so I can view them? Thanks.

SAVAGE! HAHAHAHA!
"This Walmart Brand singer"
They will NEVER leave this poor girl alone. She literally can’t make music or make a video without getting accused of copying.
Because she's always copying
She is being called out for copying before
It’s because she’s basic
Olivia is NOT poor lol. She is literally rolling in the dough. (Olivia’s net worth is between $8-16 million USD)
@@LovePixelsthey didn’t mean money wise
Gwen Stefani also did a tea party music video. So many artists have done tea party themes and scenes. And then we've got, you know, Alice in Wonderland - which is used as inspiration for many, including Gwen... Completely ridiculous.
Did you even watch the video? She literally says she didnt create the tea party idea. She references mutlippe shots, angles, and actions namely the smearing cake on their face and crawling on the table. Then she finds out olivia rodrigo's creative director follows someone who reposted her music video. It's a stretch, she never claims it as stolen or slanders olivia, she is lighthearted about it and when asked what she wants done she responds "hire me!" And thats about it
@@spawn302 Blah blah blah.
Pink also did a tea party in her just like fire music video. I've seen so many artist do similar things
@@AliasPaine I mean if you're incapable of debating then why even post the comment to begin with? lmao just admit youre a fangirl and cant admit it was likely stolen.
@@Jenniferslife01 But you haven't seen another artist do an IDENTICAL copy like this. It's pretty egregious.
I don’t think Olivia Rodrigo has ever heard of Noel, and she doesn’t own the concept of tea parties.
Rodrigo doesn't do her choreography, direction, or creative production. Her team does--and her team stole this entire idea.
Maybe try watching the whole video before interjecting personal opinion.
Not her, but her team dipwat. If you had heard clearly one of the people on Olivia’s management team follows Noel’s friend who shares her videos on her story, the person viewing it could’ve simply liked the idea, added the twist and bam. Btw she already has 3 upcoming lawsuits because of this
@@mar-vw3gc for no reason.
I've worked in advertising, music and currently game writing. One of the first things you really learn is parallel thinking is really common. Most people have a lot of the same ideas. Unless you have someone dead to rights, it's silly to call them out for copying.
Your image resembles life in general
What you're trying to say is: Who did it best! I do marketing and entrepreneur and this is straight up copy and paste with new twists😂😂😂 having big $$$ to copyright is the winner
Except she is constantly being accused of copying. It's to the point where we can say "who did she copy this week?"
the sequence of the same scenes say they copied her nobody has the same sequence of ideas twice
Parallel thinking was a concept created by plagiarists. It's a sequence-by-sequence copy of an original idea. Somebody stole.
Hasnt this been done by like at least 20 other big artists already? I'm confused. Such a big reach.
Yes it has 😂😂😂 also they don’t really look alike in terms of set design or choreography... this nobody is delulu
Nah lol cause he said “this unknown singer” I was dead
I’m no attorney, but I don’t think a creative director following someone you know on instagram is solid proof that your uninspired tea party music video was ripped off
It's what trial lawyers call "incriminating evidence".
@@VIDS2013 except in a trial you have to prove guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and this is purely circumstantial
ummm no
@@amethystsavage4018 Sorry, but the standard in a civil trial is the less-stringent "preponderance of the evidence". Circumstantial evidence alone is often enough to meet the standard. And you can be sure there's more evidence where this came from!
@@VIDS2013 Beyonce Single Lady dance moves does not belong to Beyonce, it belongs to Choreographic Knight. Anyone who uses those dance steps, knight has authorities to stop it, because it was officially registered under him.
Why didn't Noelle go to the choreographer?
Do they really need Olivia to push her?
It's inspired by Alice In Wonderland, tea party. It just goes to show how many people don't read books.
This girl thinking she invented the tea party.
@@SkyNetGeneral-why did yall always call Olivia out if another artist did the same thing yall wouldn't care but if Olivia does it's a problem 🤐
@@SkyNetGeneral-Tea Party? Do you live under a rock? Tea Party connected to Alice in Wonderland, that existed back in 1800s and the first film was in 1903 and live adaptation was in 2010.
Yeah, but at the end of the day, Olivia Rodrigo shouldn't be blamed because she herself would have no idea where her creative directors had gotten a particular concept. And with the world the way it is, people mindlessly consume reels on social media and all kinds of things and so much content goes past that it's becoming hard to accuse anyone of consciously ripping someone else off when it comes to fairly general concepts like this. People see stuff and forget about it and it comes to mind later in a different context, etc. The world has become irreversibly homogenized in that regard. A while back, SNL did an actual SKIT that looked just like a popular TH-cam comedian's video about the Charmin toilet paper bears. It was OBVIOUS that they had gotten the concept from his video and only switched a couple of things up. He made a video pointing it out without much to-do, and hardly anyone noticed. I don't blame Noelle for talking about this publicly, though. Maybe with the world being as connected as it is, the lesser known creatives responsible for a lot of the creativity that gets scooped up and appropriated by the big entertainment industries will start getting at least some exposure and recognition out of this stuff, unlike has been the case up until now wherein average people's ideas have just been copied without any credit paid where it was due.
So I don’t think Olivia is the one who should be targeted for copying. She probably knew nothing of the music video, it’s very likely the creative director got inspiration from the other music video posted two years ago, and used it for the SNL performance. But I really doubt Olivia even knew that.
Actually I would say Olivia’s is much more Alice in wonderland esk. If u look at the costuming and what she is doing (vs the short clips of the other girl looked like she was at a birthday party and unhappy). Sooo many artists have done this concept, it’s not an original concept at all... and her being like “they did the cheers with cups!!!” Like duh 😂😂😂 that’s what u do
shame on inside edition for giving this flop a platform

This is funny because why is this on the news 💀
It's funnier that people think Inside Edition is the news 😂
Inside edition isn’t the news 💀
That's exactly what I said 💀
Let's sue all the rockstar because they stole the concept of headbanging and playing the instrument while on stage.
It reminds me of Alice and Wonderland/Gwen Stefani
There is nothing unique about a tea theme photoshoot, party or performance. I don't even like Olivia but come on... this chick is reaching for attention!
It’s not a new concept, hence Alice in Wonderland.
didn't Melanie Martinez do something similar? many people have probably done this give olivia a break
Girl please you knew what you was doing just trying to get attention for her flop career they literally look nothing alike unless they were all wearing dresses and singing the same then yeah sure 😂😂
Yes they do look alike Same hand movements everything. If your a Rodrigo fan just say that
"quickly becoming one of the biggest stars on the planet" bruh I literally have no clue who she is or what she does 💀
Welcome to adulthood.
you jus don’t don’t know nothing abt music
Most teens and their 20s do.
"I don't know someone, therefore they must not be famous."
I mean that's fine, but it doesn't change the fact that she is. You not knowing her means nothing
Noelle must have a family member in the industry and this is a story to get her name out there
They explain the possible connection in the video.
This used Olivia? way to go Noelle
Y’all leave my girl alone!
Olivia Rodrigo doesn’t pay your bills.
she doesn't know your name
No one has ever heard of this artist but of course she’s going to use this to flatter herself and try to become known lol
ig no one can have tea parties 😅
You're just mad that someone did it better than you
That’s why it’s called “copyright”.
Tea Party was not invented by Noelle? How dare she claims something when she also borrows the idea from Alice in Wonderland.
0:34 “this relatively unknown singer” says a lot LMAOOOO
The most generic idea can’t be copyrighted
She thinks that’s an original idea and she owns it…. Wild
Omg y’all can’t let Olivia do anything😭
All she does anyways is copy off everyone else's stuff
Music is a very competitive industry, especially now.
I love how most people aren't acknowledging the choreography... which is what she's saying is the issue. People keep saying that tea parties aren't original (i.e., Alice in Wonderland), but she never claimed that that concept alone was the issue. I do see many similarities in the choreography on top of the tea party theme.
Choreography is basic too not some one of a kind unique thing she owns...
choreography? lol. this girl was just using this for clout.
Yep, the choreography was stolen wholesale.
EXACTLY
@@velmascientista7026it’s the fact that she’s doing a tea party AND the SAME choreo and some SAME camera angles as Noel. All that together can’t be passed off as a coincidence.
tbh I don’t think olivia even doesn’t know the singer that she “copied”.
Feel like a sketch she just looking for attention theyre not similar enough to be plagiarism ive seen several videos with similar theme, and set design just because something reminds you of something else doesnt mean it's plagiarism.
right 'cause Noelle Denton was the first person to think of a tea party and the concept of something that's supposed to be peaceful and pure descending into the utter chaos of letting the intrusive thoughts win..
Kinda tired of hearing about Olivia "copying" people when the idea she is supposedly copying is not completely original itself. Cognitive dissonance.
Originally isn’t her strongest suit it seems. She’s been sued a few times for stealing people’s music, including Taylor Swift.
She wasn’t sued, but she decided to preemptively avoid any potential criticisms and lawsuits and give herself publicity in the process.
Yeah like tea party never even existed and you're the founder.
If someone walks on the music video, that would be an issue because someone already walked on music videos. and ect... ridiculous acclaims 🤦♂️
Tea Parties aren't that unique of a concept
I think Olivia is overrated
Pity Party by Melanie will always be the best (for me) lol🤭😂💅✨💖
Wait ..two young girls doing a Tea party blasphemous
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers did an Alice in Wonderland tea party video for "Don't come around here no more" back in the 80's. It's not a new concept in music vids.
😂😂😂 they don’t have similar choreography at all 😂😂 WOW a tea party that gets dark, cheersing, climbing on a table, and smashing cake has NEVER been done before 😂😂😂
All of these people ripped off the mad hatter first
Uncreative people stealing material from creative people...sounds like the entire music industry pretty much.
GIVE HER A BREAK MY GOD
Olivia always copies and pastes her material and styles and song beats/rhythms
@@SkyNetGeneral- well who did it first and who did it much better? Obviously ed, swift and Beyoncé. Olivia has no real talent in music besides singing
It’s a common feature in pop music.
@@creamysauce5351Olivia wrote a song for Disney TV show by herself. A singer who write her own songs ? You don't call it a talent? A person who plays a piano or guitar is not a talent?
And you stole it from my daughter’s tea party/4th birthday. It looked very similar
The girl has a very high opinion of her self claiming that it's art. She may as well claim Christmas.
Ikr
Istg people always accuse her of copying things
It was a SNL performance wasn’t it? I doubt Olivia had Much of a hand in it.
I wouldn’t be surprised creative directors steal content all the time.
Who cares, SNL rips off TH-camrs' sketches all the time. Serves them right. Look up Joel Haver's Charmin Bear skit, then look up SNL's that came out shortly after.
A lot of singers does that too for example Melanie Martinez and Gwen Stefani have done this too being sat down around a chair
I personally think there a lot different! And also WTF would she ay “I think she stole my art” when she literally probably stole it from Melanie Martinez
Stretch. She did not invent girl crawls on table and plays with the food cliche.
This is a very general concept, I think it's just a coincidence.
They should hire her, she seems to have potential
she loves stealing
She copied the table setting scene in the We Don't Talk About Bruno song from Enchanto then...
Had a tea party for my 3 yr old last yr, im suing both of them
SNL...a show made of ripoffs and bad parodies, and Olivia is under fire for this?!! It's not even close lol. This might be the only funny thing to come from SNL since the 90's.
Well it certainly helped get her name out there!
That may have ultimately been the point.
Inspiration is great and just be proud that you led the way...
I didn't mind the ending though. She took it well - she doesn't seem to want a hand out!
“Noelle” ripping off alice in wonderland 😂
Nobody can own a tea party video as an original idea. Hmmm...
It’s not an original enough idea to claim plagiarism.
I’m sorry but this girl is trying to get attention
I've seen tea parties in dozens of movies
Tom Petty had a tea party video too. Other people have used that idea before. So it not original
Is it wrong to have a tea party type of music vid like LEAVE HER ALONE
It breaks my heart to see one of my favourite artists being “called out” and like being bullied like Olivia can’t make a music video without getting hate and it’s so sad 😭
Me too
And why do people always criticize artists who have just debuted?
Even though they didn't do anything wrong
How else do you do cheers? lol
That’s cap
What is with these nobodies always claiming their music is getting stolen. She probably doesn’t even know you exist!
That creative director needs to be fired and sued. They're probably the same director who keeps styling Olivia's looks and instagram posts after Pom Pom Squad.
Key word Unknown singer
Not a copy, it's impossible to NOT have similarities in any video these days. As its been said time an time again. It's all been done before.
Maybe Olivia paying homage
They both look similar
I think they both stole it from the mad hatter
Did she do a cover of her song????
rihanna did the same exact performance set up during a performance of 'only girl in the world' on the x factor in 2010
Olivia did it better tho 👏👏🖤🖤🖤🖤
I thought the SNL skit was a play on Alice in Wonderland...
Wow. She ...*checks notes*.... Had a tea party
dang ,did the tea party i had with my bears as a kid also coping her
Every Christmas song is a "copy" using this almost logic.
SNL is pathetic
Has anyone seen the tom Petty video with dave Stewart ?
@@SkyNetGeneral- not an exactly video of Tom Petty but it's similar.
If she copied her then this woman copied Adore Delano’s tea party video
These small time artists need to give it up. You can't steal a concept. Unless it is a carbon copy of the original art, art will always inspire future art. Get over yourselves.
They’re not even the same. This artist’s presentation of the tea party concept is different from Olivia’s. Her’s is outside, more colorful, and has presents. Same thing with the Courtney Love situation. Same concept, different presentation, different angles, etc.
AGAIN? seems true once her director first followed her friend's instagram and then unfollowed.
the theme is OR is unoriginal
someone's lack of fame is no excuse for their work to get copied
Idk, it’s not a good look being the one calling out a well liked artist for “stealing your idea.” If people care about it enough, they will defend you. This just makes this relatively unknown artist look kinda jealous and petty.
Noelle and Inside Edition should both be embarrassed. She’s a no-talent clout chaser, and they gave her a forum for her nonsense.
