This was brilliant! Loved seeing both of you approach it differently and simply listen and watch. I’ve been watching for many years and have visited multiple times and have three of Dave’s prints on my wall. But until now, I have never had such an appreciation for the printing process and all of the care and skill that goes into that part. Also 2x speed can help make it through the whole video!
Thanks for this. I never get to catch your streams so it's great to see the full process of a woodblock print carving start to finish. I'll be watching this all the way through.
One of the things I love about making linocuts is the way it forces me to be patient. One thing I know about making woodcuts - be they Japanese-style or Western-style - is that it requires considerably more patience than lino does. Especially with the levels of detail and precision that these guys achieve.
Fantastic stuff, David! Glad to see you're still doing well. I visited the shop with my family back in May and we've still been trying to figure out where to display the prints...
100% agree with Dave about ear protection! There's so much stuff that isn't thought about that can be harmful and hammering like that is definitely one. Loads of carpenters end up hard of hearing or develop tinnitus in their later years from that kind of noise. It never hurts to be safe with this kind of thing.
This makes me wanna run away to Japan and learn how to do this ☺️😍 I love to draw detailed artworks so seeing how much care and attention to the details with woodblock carving is so inspiring!! I’ll be watching this many times I’m sure. Thankyou for sharing your time and knowledge with us you two 😊
Great job both. I prefer David speak only as his manner and voice are what make the videos relaxing and fun to watch. Another video like this I will skip as kept speeding up to only catch David's chat, sorry no offense only being honest.
not really a fan of the younger guy. he seems nice and all, but as usual with younger people, he keeps trying to push his way of doing things and doesnt just accept Daves methods of doing things. its just wrong. when he has his own place and is done apprenticing he can do it whatever way he pleases, but for now he should not be trying to do anything "his way" and he really really should not be trying to convince Dave to do it his way..... he has an attitude of his way is the best way and is what they both should be doing. very annoying...
Dave often referred to me in his streams saying ‘Taran will be shaking his head at this’ etc. but I have never once said or implied any sentiments like that. I have zero qualms with the way Dave makes his prints, zero. I learnt a lot from him. He asked me to do this specifically to show the way I was taught. The way I do it is not ‘my way’, it’s the way I have been taught by a 9th generation carver. My general philosophy is that you can make prints however you want and it’s the results that matter. I’m just trying to present the traditional methods as the older carvers have no interest in doing so. You don’t have to like me, but I think you’re misrepresenting me in this comment. Sounds like you’re frustrated with ‘young people’ … I’m 32 by the way
@@GinkoHanga Good on you. I understood Dave to say that the agreement with your Master is that Dave will NOT be doing instruction. I love it that another generation is well and firmly started.
Nice to see you are still going strong and have lots of energy. From the random guy you met in a Tokyo hospital 👍
I’ll watch it all Dave but probably in sections. Rarely have 5 hours in a row to spare! Thanks for posting this. It’s gonna be fun.
No problem, of course. Normally, that's the way we make these things ... bit by bit!

@@SirHargreeveswatched in 2x thanks so much pleb
@ I prefer to take my time and watch it real time. I appreciate the thought though.
I love long videos. I have videos like yours to help me sleep and control my PTSD nightmares. You sound so gentle and warm.
Me too, is precisely why I prefer David speak only on co hosted videos.
Dave, I could watch you carve for 24 hours straight! 😊Please, do more full length videos like this.

I enjoy these longer videos. David's voice reminds me of Bob Ross and just calms me.
Sitting back while watching video was a relaxing time well spent

I haven't been able to stop by the stream in quite a bit, so this is much appreciated!
I'm doing a little carving myself with this video in the background. Really informative stuff!
This was fascinating to see, great video Dave! The comparison between the way Dave and Taran work is so interesting
today was such a stressful day for a few reasons but I just really breathed a sigh of relief seeing this upload. Appreciate you. ❤
The length of the prcoess really shows its not just about skill but also patience, truly insane the work you guys can do

I remember watching that first stream a long time ago, and I loved it. Thanks for walking us through the process again!
That print is hanging on my wall, thanks for this wonderful video. 🤩
Well done! I remember watching this live start to finish, and the one Cameron was in years ago! 💙
You and your story is a major inspiration in my life.
I aspire to have your level of wisdom and passion, Mr. David!
this is very informative, because this is the reality of making a print, seeing what works and what does not. Part 2required
Always happy to see an upload from you, David. I enjoy watching you enjoy your craft.
I love watching you work, this is going to be lovely. Thank you for uploading
Fantastic stuff, David! Glad to see you're still doing well. I visited the shop with my family back in May and we've still been trying to figure out where to display the prints...

Christmas came early!
I absolutely love this. Are the pattern images a reverse copy? I'd love to attempt something like this.
