YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH YOU HELPED ME TODAY WITH THIS EXACT VIDEO!!!! YOUR VOICE IS A COMFORT TO MY EARS NOW, ITS LIKE I KNOW YOU ALREADY, COZ I AM LISTENING TO YOUR VOICE ALL DAY TODAY AND PROBABLY TOMO. I AM SO SO THANKFUL FOR YOU TO MAKE THIS VIDEO. IT SAVED MY UNIVERSITY DEGREE. AND I LEARNED SOMETHING COOL.
I have finished modelling the bottle but is there any way that I can make it look like glass in Maya only? I dont have keyshot and my assignment needs me to do the glass effect in maya only?? Any ideas?
do you know the specs to put or do you have a video for doing that? if you could guide me I would be forever grateful thanks :) I am a beginner and I have basic Maya 2016 student version with no plugins etc.
Great tutorial Mike! Can you teach us how use the hypershade in Maya 2016 more deep? With complex textures and UV maps maybe. Thanks! And the famous nodes haha.
Emiliano, with tooling being what it is and PBR texturing being so strong in packages such as MARI, 3DCoat and Quixel I rarely texture in Maya if ever. If fact I would only invest time in it if you don't have other alternatives
I understood, but i don't have much alternatives. I'm learning to do hyperrealistics renders or cinematics for architecture and also cinema and topics like this include enviroments and those programs works better for individual objects or characters, maybe i'm wrong, let me know. Anyway, textured or nature in Maya tutorial not abaund or not very completed at least. I know entail more time texturing in Maya becouse have a lots of parameters but would let me manipulate every single aspect and detail of material with awesome results. Sorry for the long text and if is hard to understand me, the english it's not my main language as you will note :p. Thanks for your quick reply.
Thanks Mike. I have a request... I have some animations which take around 40min to render one frame on medium quality using a 4.2GHZ 8 core cpu with 8MB L3 cache with Mental Ray. That's 20 hours to render one second. If I decide to use a render farm to pump out some passes, I would love to first have seen the process before I try a render farm so I know I'm not wasting my money on a service that gets too expensive to continue using in order to complete my animation. It would be great if you could do a video guide on what to expect with this process. Some typical questions I have are as follows... -What can I expect when using a render farm(ins and outs of using a render farm service)? -Is there a faster way to render my animations at home (5 minutes long animations)? -What is a typical waiting time for render farms? -Which render-farm service suits a hobbyist/freelancer? -How extensively does the number of lights in a scene affect render times? -Does the decay rate of a spotlight affect render times? -Is final-gathering essential in order to get a good quality render? -To what extent do render-passes affect render times? -Do MIA materials take much longer to render than standard Maya materials? -Does glass and water in scenes affect render times significantly? -Does caustics affect render times significantly? -How many reflections would typically be used for a production quality render in a large scene? -Is there a way to streamline my scene in order to make it render faster? -Does having a texture on my lights color channel affect render times? -Do render times speed up if I make my assets an actual asset in Maya? -When should I use final gathering vs global illumination? -I use Windows, but will a Mac render faster than a same-spec Windows machine? Thanks.
Hi, I am not able to take FBX files to Keyshot, only OBJ, and also when I apply a material on a OBJ, it gets applied on the whole thing. What can I do to fix all this?
dear mike may i ask for help in something i model a Mechanical arm or something like it but i don't know how to make it move to pic a cup and put it back again could you help me please
Ansam, this is a short question with a long answer. It is not as simple as that and it involves a lot of things. We are talking about modeling, rigging, animation here, This could easily be 5 or 6 tutorials
Hhhh im sorry i know its involves a lot i dont know what to do at least a besics or i will just use the model with textur, lighting, uvs wish i becom batter in it Thank you so much 😁😀😊

You are very welcome Apurva

Sure, apply an Arnold material to it, and adjust the material settings to make it look like glass
do you know the specs to put or do you have a video for doing that? if you could guide me I would be forever grateful thanks :) I am a beginner and I have basic Maya 2016 student version with no plugins etc.
Apurva, there are way to many options to simply explain in writing, sorry :-)
Amazing tutorial. Great work.
Thank you
Hi Mike! :)
Thank you so much for your site & tutorials.

If that is the case then try at least to get your hands on VRay for Maya as a renderer ( or Arnold )

Good questions ! I will see what I can do.
Cheers.
I am checking with Rebusfarm to see if we can do an interview type deal on the topic
Nice.
Do you have a GPU?
Hey Mike, if I wanted to design an angel wing would I need to create every feather individually? (plz make a video)
No, you could use normal maps
Hello, it would be possible to make a tutorial for modeling a vintage phone in the future, because I do not find elsewhere ?
Thks for your answer ;)
I will add it to the request list but I can't make any promises :-) ( the list is long )
Mike Hermes no problem, thank you ;)
Hi, I am not able to take FBX files to Keyshot, only OBJ, and also when I apply a material on a OBJ, it gets applied on the whole thing. What can I do to fix all this?
You need to create a color map in Maya before going into Keyshot. Each color in Maya represents a material you add in Keyshot later.
HOG: Can you transport the keyshot back to Maya?
Hey HOG :-) No, you can't. Keyshot is the final destination unfortunately
Thanks for the advice.
