Just wanted to say thank you all these modeling in Maya videos. I just started 3D modeling and all these videos on modeling basic stuff have been extremely helpful. Also love that you say what you're doing with each small step. Makes it very easy to follow. Do you happen to have any plans on moving these videos onto more advance objects?
You should look at a video comparison of the two or the "change log" to see what changes were made. But honestly I don't think it would be something so big that you would need to switch between them (unless something got fixed or made better than in the previous version). Stick to one version and use it a lot then switch when you feel that you truly understand how things work. Just my view on it but feel free to go for 2017 if you want to :)
Np! I use to switch between many versions of programs because I always wanted the latest programs. But then I realised that I'm not learning anything and using the same super basic skills I used since the first instance of the program I used. That's why you need to commit to one program at a time. I remembered this now... "The technology you use impresses no one. The experience you create with it is everything." - Sean Gerety
Mike, I have another question. Is it possible to export a mesh out of Maya to Keyshot, and then export out of Keyshot back into Maya? Will the Keyshot textures be visible and or editable in Maya?
Hey Mike, I was thinking about making a game someday. But my models look very different (like one would be very shiny and one would look plain). The question is: How do I get all my models to have a similar look to them? Like Borderlands, that game look unique and everything in it has that similar look. Regards. Ryu
When the video is mainly about the modeling I like to use keyshot for an easy and nice render as I don't have to UV ( It saves time and makes the tutorial much shorter )
but isn't it better to extrude the hand out of the model, as u said in another video "chair example" that we shouldn't let geometries go throw each others
That is correct when modeling for animated scenes or deforming objects. In fact it is always better to avoid it. But in this case both had the same material and there is no animation or deformation, just a still render
You're awesome!! Thank you so much for the Tutorials!!
You are very welcome Natalia !!
Nice tutorial, but I would prefer the render with arnold than keyshot... hope you could do that later. Anyway thanks for the tutorial.
Thank you for always. Mike

The problem isn't basic vs advance, the problem is whether it will fit into a tutorial with a reasonable length. I don't want to do a 5pc 7 hour video
hi mike can you make an tutorial arnold rendring
Let's model a ship!
hey can you do a video using arnold renderer plzzzzzzzzzzzz
I will
are there any big diffeences between maya 2016 and 17? love your videos btw!

For the most part Maya 2017 has Arnold as the new standard for rendering instead of mental Ray. Also some Motion Graphics tools have been added
this render was used on the thumbnail of the newest "The Know" video!
The what ?
it's a news TH-cam channel, the render was used in it :)
Do you have a link Adam ?
I've emailed you :)
Thanks man !

Nope, sorry
Isn't there a bridge to keyshot like Zbrush to keyshot plugin that would do that?????
great work. a question please . can i import this project again to maya for animation ?
From Keyshot ? No, sorry
so why we make texturing in another program ?
Keyshot is the end station and use to present products etc
can u model a samurai sword

Ryu, It's a personal style and work method you need to develop
Mike Hermes Ok thanks Mike, I'll keep working on it then!
Mike, can you show us how to get MIA materials back in Maya 2017?
Maya replaced Mental Ray ( product by NVIDIA ) with Arnold. NVIDIA has not released a new version yet
+Mike Hermes Will you go back to using Mental Ray once nVidia releases it?
Why use keyshot instead of maya...Is it better or easier for rendering and texturing?

i have no keyshot what to do ?
You can use any program that will texture, you don't need keyshot
Mike Hermes Can i get effects like keyshots renderimg in substance material

okay, thank you
how to get keyshot guys... this thing costs 1000 bucks
Yes, I know
