Ms. Hunter this is so surreal. I just heard Tupac's song Keep your head up and I sat in my car and actually for first time in many years listened to his powerful lyrics.

This was a well needed fresh glass of water for me; specifically because of this white nationalist driving to my city and killing 10 of our brothas and sistahs. In Buffalo, NY we have a cultural and racially divided city, so never did we expect a “man/boy “ with the indoctrination of white amerikkka to drive to our side of the city and unleash his racial fury on us. Had it been 20 years ago that could’ve been me; I lived 5mins walking from there for years so reality has set in for me to always be aware. Thank you for allowing me to clear my mind and also reflect on my favorite artist Tupac Shakur who inspired me for many reasons ; and also while getting love from 2of the best teachers I have ever seen. Thank you for taking time out on Saturday to give us a clean glass of water consistently ✊🏿❤️🖤💚.

All the GREAT people of African descent(Authors, playwriting, directors, musicians, journalists, economists, scientists, freedom fighers, in other words HEROES) who ARE NOT curated in the social structure!!!! The sheer number is AMAZING, let alone the actual talent, contributions, and extensions! I'm here for all of it!!!!!!
Many years ago, a young single mother community college student rode a bus on a rainy day after taking her child (on the bus) to daycare to bring me a flower and a thank you card for speaking to her class. "Not many important Black women bother to come talk to us and we appreciate you for doing that". It was stunning that she thought of me as 'important'. A few years later, I encountered a student from that class who said that my talk changed the trajectory of his life. It means everything when we invest whatever we have gained into our kids. Bless you, Prof. Hunter, for pouring into our children. You are an important woman!

Thank you for another wonderful, informative conversation. With a 4yr old son, it really gave me food for thought as to how I/we need to educate him. As for Kendrick, I respect what he's put out in general. He's got talent. But the critique of him, and what gets promoted by the social structure, had me thinking of the 2018 album Drogas Wave, by Lupe Fiasco... and why it didn't get the recognition a Kendrick album gets. As you might know, it's a concept album based on the story of African slaves transported across the Atlantic, who escape over board and manage to survive in an underwater community.... a maroonage community I imagine. Their purpose is to sabotage other slave ships they encounter and free their brethren. Sonically, lyrically, conceptually it's great. Its references to Africa abound.
