This was a well needed fresh glass of water for me; specifically because of this white nationalist driving to my city and killing 10 of our brothas and sistahs. In Buffalo, NY we have a cultural and racially divided city, so never did we expect a “man/boy “ with the indoctrination of white amerikkka to drive to our side of the city and unleash his racial fury on us. Had it been 20 years ago that could’ve been me; I lived 5mins walking from there for years so reality has set in for me to always be aware.
Thank you for allowing me to clear my mind and also reflect on my favorite artist Tupac Shakur who inspired me for many reasons ; and also while getting love from 2of the best teachers I have ever seen. Thank you for taking time out on Saturday to give us a clean glass of water consistently ✊🏿❤️🖤💚.

Many years ago, a young single mother community college student rode a bus on a rainy day after taking her child (on the bus) to daycare to bring me a flower and a thank you card for speaking to her class. "Not many important Black women bother to come talk to us and we appreciate you for doing that". It was stunning that she thought of me as 'important'. A few years later, I encountered a student from that class who said that my talk changed the trajectory of his life. It means everything when we invest whatever we have gained into our kids.
Bless you, Prof. Hunter, for pouring into our children. You are an important woman!

Thank you for another wonderful, informative conversation. With a 4yr old son, it really gave me food for thought as to how I/we need to educate him. As for Kendrick, I respect what he's put out in general. He's got talent. But the critique of him, and what gets promoted by the social structure, had me thinking of the 2018 album Drogas Wave, by Lupe Fiasco... and why it didn't get the recognition a Kendrick album gets. As you might know, it's a concept album based on the story of African slaves transported across the Atlantic, who escape over board and manage to survive in an underwater community.... a maroonage community I imagine. Their purpose is to sabotage other slave ships they encounter and free their brethren. Sonically, lyrically, conceptually it's great. Its references to Africa abound.

We as a "people" need to Stop "Disqualifying" Our folks just because "They" don't express their Views, Opinions, Art, in the ways in which "We" want ‼️ Kendrick Lamar IS NOT Disqualified, just because he uses the "N" word.‼️ The bigger message is SO MUCH MORE IMPORTANT & POWERFUL. 🤷🏾‍♂️‼️ Great Class Professor's Hunter & Dr. Carr..❣

we as a people need to set standards and stop calling everyone a genius. Set the bar so we know what is and is not freeing us. BUt I hear you. And because he uses the N-word, he has opened the door for the N-word to be valid because it made it so. It is not.

I do understand what You & Dr. Carr were saying... I guess, I just come from a place of, it's enough "Disqualifying" & "Dismissing" of Black folks, from 1 Race/Generation or Another, that I try to give an ear to it All... & Discard what doesn't "Stick/Work". & I believe that (for Me), He's one person that will always be in (My) "Movement & Memories " & "Ways of Knowing ".❣

@@KarenHunterShow I am not asking you to help me elder. I am making a point about the inconsistency of the metric you are using to disqualify Kendrick when compared to the actual practices of the individual you referenced.
I don't think there is strength in degrading ancestors (Tupac), but I also know that Tupac is Kendrick's inspiration. Tupac is one of the forebearers of Kendrick's sound, and much of the disqualifying language is all throughout his catalog.
This fact is my issue with the stances that we take at times. We forget that many of the greats we speak of not only used the language that Kendrick Lamar uses at times, but also have on the record behavior that Kendrick Lamar has not even come close to (that we know of). Still that have been afforded a lifetime to show the full range of their being. For me elder, I would hope that you can understand where I am coming from, as you are holding a platform that will in many ways shape our perspectives not on on the social structure but also on how we look at, and ultimately treat those who fall under the scope of your personal measurements of them.

Maybe the difference btwn Tupac and k.lamar is a pulitzer. Its a social structure argument. That being said they both are talented and prolific

@@jetunb I am attempting to make a governance point. Meaning that my concern is not A Pulitzer, Grammy, or any other award that Kendrick Lamar may have, or the way Tupac has been elevated by the social structure and then fed back to is in a way that cuts the edges away from him in order to make him fit neatly into whatever narrative the orator is attempting to create.
Our discussions must be far more nuanced than this, but I will save the barbeque conversations for the grill(Knubia).

So how should I manage the identity of a third grader who tries to control the adults by faking cute, smart, etc and its real but they cheat., i.e. copy answers from an answer sheet and present the work as her own?

How are we supposed to interpret Milton Freidman when he says the neo-liberal stuff that he says? Note: He's winning.

Shoutout to kendrick lamar!I disagree with how yall defamed kendrick in this episode by only pointing out his flaws in his lyrics and not championing what he does say that challenges social norms and continues to let us know that we aren't alone in trying to deal with trauma
