Flies - Bibio and Silver Invicta Size 12
Both flies caught equally as much fish
Two days in Wild Nephin National Park. The mission was to fish a few loughs on the side of the mountain and then camp on Slieve Carr, (said to be the remotest mountain in Ireland). Then camp up beside one of the loughs the next day.
The conditions in the first lough I arrived to wasnt great (flat calm), plenty of fish jumping, but they werent interested in my wet flies. So I moved onto a couple of other loughs above it. No luck in ethere of the two, probably because there was no fish in any of them.
So after the fishing I headed up a ridge to the left (south) of the top lough, it was a fairly steep incline, sweated buckets, but didn't take too long to get to the top. The Summit was marked with a large Cairn with the Trig point sticking out of it. I pitched up south west of the summit and had views of the surrounding hills, Achill Island and the Atlantic Ocean. No beers the first night, just had some food, listened to a bit of radio and watched the views come and go.
The next morning I headed for the first lough where I blanked the day before.... and I blanked again. Things werent looking good, fishing wise. But when I hit up the last couple of loughs, boom, two fish on one of my first cast and they kept on biting the whole day. I think I had three double hook ups. All the fish I caught were from Black lough (all returned), I gave White Lough a quick fish, but I went back to Black Lough to pitch up and do a bit more fishing.
The midges had there moments, but overall they were fine. On the second evening I could sit out on a rock beside my tent and drink my beer and whiskey in peace. That night, fairly strong winds came, but nothing to trouble the tent, as its a beast of a tent for its weight.
No trace left as per usual.
Pack weight was 15kg including 2 liters of water, lots of food, beer and whiskey.

Brendan, a fantastic looking trip. Quite a walk in and I am sure there aren't many people that have fished those 5 loughs, never mind spending 2 nights wild camping there too. The northern most corrie lough is one I have yet to visit and it looks fantastic from above. You had pretty good weather and did well to get a clear night on the summit of Slieve Carr, Great that you had plenty of bites in the Scardun Loughs😊 and hopefully not too many midge bites.
