I travel all over but I love coming home to bluff city I love all my friends and family that live here thanks for showing folks about our lil town 37618 all day everyday
My Great Grand Dad was the First Vetenarian in the Tri Cities between Knoxville and Roanoke Virginia and He had it on 11 E in Bluff City and I am related to the people of Thomas Hardware.
Thank you, Ron!! I told him that very day I was precious cargo and he said he was the precious cargo and he drove fine! 😂 Seriously thank you though. We appreciate you! - Melody
Holy crap I saw that too! I was like did he just...naw and I went back and watched. Oh man that could have been bad. Don't let rainbows take your eyes off the road. I need to pray harder.
Bluff City is nice. Downtown? I must have blinked. I liked Nellie Park & the bridge; it is a very back-to-nature little town that's very clean with wide open spaces. Thank you!

I just came through there a couple weeks ago and thought to myself "I wish Real Appalachia would do a video on this town" and here it is, you guys are awesome.
I’m so glad I got to see this. I have just learned that my Pawpaw was born there in 1911 and raised there with all his brothers and sisters and other family members. I love the quite little town. It’s beautiful!
18:15 the sound of the cicadas and that fog I could sleep well there, such a beautiful place only minutes away from the big city, I sat at one of the picnic tables across the lake at the park a few weeks ago and ate my lunch but I didn't stay long because my big commercial truck was taking up a lot of parking space so thanks for taking the time to make these videos, you're helping me decide were i want to live when I leave NC
I grew up in Bluff City and lived there from 1999 to 2006. The house I lived in is no longer there, it burned down later, but it was a white two story with a staircase that seemed huge to a little kid. You can see the back and side of the school at 7:59. My house was across the street from where the front of the school used to be. It was called Maple Street back then and I remember the school's entrance being on the hill (now Carter Street). Little Shawna (who was underweight at 5) spent many a day trudging that hill.
My goodness, gracious! You have visited one of my very favorite places in Tennessee. How exciting! I absolutely loved the music! Bluff City is such a historic part of TN. Thank you so very much Shane and Melody!
Shane at 5:21 you ran that stop sign. 🛑Nellie Pratt had a store near the swinging bridge. You need to look up Long shadows and Worley's Cave in Bluff City.
Bluff City- how cool. I'm anxious to see this. Awesome rainbow! You say you've had a lot of rain this summer. We've had almost none, since the end of Spring. I don' think I've ever seen a rainbow last as long as that one did. Wow. When we visited Bluff City several years ago, it was just to see the old log church, so we never saw the downtown at all. That suspension foot bridge is awesome. We have one here in NJ, but it's far from here and I've never been to it. Aw man, it's just what I was afraid of. You never got to Ryder Church Road. ☹That's where the Ryder Memorial Presbyterian Church is. That's an old log church. It's really cool. I loved that mural at the end too.
The school started off as Bluff City High School and then became Bluff City Middle School in the late 60's. That's where I went to school in the mid 80's. If you saw the "Bouton House," it was built in the early 1800's by the oldest son of my first ancestor to move to this area from Lancaster, PA. Love BC.
Sorry I was trying to say thank you very much for driving around and showing us all these things and telling us about bluff City. We're planning on moving somewhere up there in the next few years. The people from Tennessee are so nice and kind which is why we want to move from Florida.
I grew up in Bristol just about a ½ hour drove from Bluff City. There is a bike shop there I believe my parents purchased my sister and I our first real mountain bikes. Actually where we lived was a quiet little neighborhood off the Blountville Hwy. Best childhood a kid could ask for in the 1980s-1990s. Unfortunately we moved away because my dad worked for (Intermountain Telecom at first, which eventually became Sprint) and his office got downsized and relocated during the 90s rise of digital tech. He used to write computer programs, but his job now could probably be performed by today's computers. Anyway, almost 30 years on, I still feel homesick for the mountains and it is my dream to retire somewhere in the Blue Ridge Mountains or Pisgah NF. Thank you for going to these beautiful towns.
oh my god, if you turn right at those railroad tracks and left up to the neighborhood above, my best friend lived there, and i was on a road called Timber Ridge. and the Methodist brick church you passed, the tree on the right we used to hide in on sundays eating lunch and watching folks leave. And that old bank building with the pillars was the town hall for ages. what a treat to see this again. Awesome!
Shane you had me laughing so hard! Very cool little town! That view on the bridge was spectacular, perfect fall looking view and good for the ghosts and goblins!😁. Walking and listening to all those bugs you could close your eyes and think back to civil war times. That is exactly what they were hearing too. I love doing that. That puts me back in to the historical time period if that makes any sense! Very much enjoyed!👍

Alot of good people from there from Hickory tree/chigapen area to boot.....just good ol people from years working with and hanging around......nice you showed this area!
I enjoy your videos immensely. If you take request or interesting ,"assignments" if you will, have you ever been to the three forks, Pilgrim, Petercave area of Eastern Kentucky. My dad and I are planning to go there for the first time in 35 years to visit my great grandfathers gravesite in the fall, and I think we are kinda curious if that area is even accessible now. There was a Tragic story on the "Faces of the forgotten" youtube channel about a murder that happened in Pilgrim, but that's really about the extent of anything new from that area. Thanks for the great content!

I lost my wallet late one night on that swinging bridge with eight bucks in it if you found it you should’ve went to Ridgewood Restaurant had the worlds best barbecue
It would have helped on the tip maybe lol was in the 70s !! I live on Boone lake over here on Sugar Hollow Road in Piney Flats I consider the whole lake my front yard used to venture up underneath the bridge we could go in boats even went above that island and got some pretty river rocks back down to stack on the lake bank in front of my house I could still point them out they had a lot of color in them Looked out at the lake after a big rain storm we had and they’re set a dock with two BP pumps on it that had floated down from the Pratts grocery that used to be there just below the bridge they sold gas on the river for boats !! Love your channel and will do all I can to speak it up and share it around !! Be Safe!!
We liked the prison elementary school a lot. (It's a joke folks!). The library was the best part. The walking path suspension bridge with the smoky mountain holla fog was magical. You forgot your fishing poles and your locks! Thank Y'all for being so kool!
There was a bank at 1 time in town.My great grandfather had 15,000 in the bank.He owned a store in Bullocks Hollow.During the depression he went to get his money out.The bank door an vault door was open,no one there an all money gone.
We had a place in River Bend from ‘90 - ‘92 when I was still on the road where the family lived and I visited about 4 days a month. That’s when I decided to stop traveling and we settled in Nashville. Not too far from Clinchco ☮️
My mom was born in 1924 and went to the elementary school. I lived there for a while in late 90s. My son and daughter went to the middle school. I worked at Wardens deli .His last name fit cause he was like a very grumpy old warden,😁 . I always calling the town Mayberry. My dad's sister and her family were scattered round the town. One time ,about 1960,my dad stopped at the bridge and we all walked out on it. Then he took a picture with and old Brownie camera of us which I now call "THE PICTURE " For you see while my mom and brother were picture perfect I was caught bending sideways with my hand behind me. I was trying to undo a wedgie while grinning for the camera!😂 The locks on the fence may seem harmless but they may be fatal to it. Overseas there was a bridge that was covered with them and the weight ended up collapsing it. The painting of the train was painted by my estranged son. Guess I missed you two by a little bit. On Tue and Thur I work at a house right across from the gas station. If it hadn't been foggy you could have seen the Island to your left. Was a park but ended up being private property years ago.
Hey Steven, I had actually started using Thrive and it’s just helped me a lot with more energy to actually start back exercising! So I’m feeling the best I have in a while! Thank you though!! - Melody
This comment is in the wrong place but I just wanted to thank you for the video from 7/2, which has comments turned off. The money he supposedly gave the family did not even put a dent in the money he made. I can't even watch Hoarders on tv without feeling guilty. He should be ashamed. What he does is not against the law but it should be. You can remove this comment, I just wanted to thank you for making the video
Love your videos. When I watch I feel like I am traveling with you both. Beautiful little town. Only one critique for Melody..... when you were naming off the previous names of Bluff City you should have said " then it became " instead of then it become" . I don't know if that is just the way you speak sometimes or is it a dialect ( like many Appalachian words). You probably really don't care if you let your Appalachian roots show but it does show signs of being uneducated and by watching your videos I know you are not. We all fall into bad grammar pits but you must remember the world is watching and by not speaking correctly it conjures up bad stereotypes of un- intelligent southerners. Please do not take this comment as harsh, or mean, but do take it as constructive criticism that can be worked on. Love to both.
Yeah there is MacDonalds KFC Burger King Waffle House Taco Bell Subway & few more chain restaurants on the 4 lane. Large flea market Auto Zone Food City grocery store.
