Nami became my favorite character on a second read-through. My two favorite lines are never discussed, both in Water 7. "Forget about the money, at least you're safe" and "Thank God we can get Robin back if we just fight the government" are moments where she breaks her own tropes.
Same here... But I was hooked much much earlier... Nami tieing up Buggys limbs to give Luffy a Chance to defeat him is till today one of the funniest Things in all of OP to me ^^ I loved it and I wanted more of it
This is why I hate the power scaling part of this fandom. I knew soooo many people who defined Nami as a weak character because she doesn’t have a bunch of one on one fights under her belt when that’s not her role in the crew!! She’s the navigator and money handler of the crew! Yes if the chips are down and it’s required she will fight but it’s not expected.
I know, my friend got confused when I said Nami was my favorite Straw Hat because she doesn't have big fights or how I deemed her versus Ulti was a victory for Nami for her unbreakable conviction. She's more nuanced than just being a power level
I do think it'd be nice for more of the straw hats to get more one on one fights before the series ends. However I don't ignore what charachters have gotten either, while Nami has only had a few single fights she's also been in a tone of group battles and came in clutch as support in nearly all those instances too.
I never thought about that difference between pre and post timeskip One Piece that way. The crew splits up alot after the timeskip but it's usually not with the same urgency or panic as it would be pre-timeskip to get back together asap. They always trust each other to handle themselves on whatever mission or situation they're in until their inevitable reunion.
Yeah so true! I'm rewatching it in my sister and hearing her panicking saying "where's sanji" is interesting cause im used to not worrying about them if they're missing for a while (also I know what's gonna happen but still)
When Nami was introduced she’s this charismatic thief always pulling fast ones on pirates. But when you realize WHY she did that, it made you feel for her and absolutely despise Arlong, which made his beat down from Luffy feel all the more cathartic. She’s so just really important to the crew as she’s the navigator, and without her, how could the straw hats make any progress. She went from a person living only to make money to a person living life as a pirate of her own free will
I don’t like how one piece kinda forgot to make the sea dangerous after a while. In the beginning Nami felt super important because she had to guide the ship through dangerous currents and weather, and now we see way less of that.
@@gokuss15 I mean literally the beginning of the last two arcs started with problems on the sea??? I think you just might not be remembering well homie
Nami develops an emotional/loving relationship with almost everyone she meets. The girl that began the series fighting alone became part of a family and learned to develop bonds with many characters. That's my favorite part of her character and I love the interactions she has with everyone around her.
Nami is my absolute favorite One Piece (and anime in general) character! She's so complex and strong in her own way and has so many great moments to shine.
A small moment in Wano which gets overshadowed by the next chapter: In chapter 1043, when Kaido announces that Luffy is dead, Nami completely refuses to believe that and calls him a liar on his face. She trusts Luffy so much that she would yell even at Kaido for suggesting that Luffy could get killed so easily.
It was a big moment for me and I remember they gave it attention in the anime, but yeah it was a great moment and usopp missed the chance to prove himself in wano with that one. He should’ve stood his ground
i srsly agree. when i saw that, i had to stop watching and take a deep breath. this is fudging nami. and she's blatantly screaming on the face of the big bad of the arc. that's not a small feat. and so her battle against ulti, i was beaming with joy bcs i would understand her if she said luffy won't be the pirate king bcs her survival instinct would have kicked in and for her almost decade with arlong, that instinct is to lie and manipulate and run. but no, through her fears and tears, she went against her survival instinct bcs she could not, for her damn life, lie her way out of the one thing she have come to truly believe in--that luffy will be the king of the pirates. and so i thank god everyday that oda is writing one piece.
Nami yelling at Kaido and Brook yelling at Big Mom are some of the best scenes ever for those characters, especially since they aren't the "big 3" (or 4 if we want to include Sanji 😂). Strength aside, all the Straw Hats have such rich depth in character, which is not an easy feat when most manga/anime would rather only have a few characters being the main focus
@@XxLUIGIxX56 forgive me for asking, it's obviously a joke, but aside from sanji, who would have been these "big 3"? also, for sure! brook calling big mom "young lady" is one of the manh one piece's best badass scenes for me. it actually tells a lot about brook too.
The part in arlong park where she begs for Luffy’s help and Luffy gives her his hat as a sign of trust and the whole crew walks towards arlong is one of the most epic parts of the show and definitely the part of the show that hooked me. Still one of my favorite moments in all of anime.
Agreed. This and the moment in Enies Lobby where they declare war on the world government and Usopp shots down the flag belong to my absolute favorite moments
I have lived in Florida for my whole life (for better or worse), famous for its oranges, and the significance of tangerines in Nami's story resonated with me deeply so that it has given me an appreciation of my own home like nothing else ever has.
Finally someone appreciating her character for her purpose and importance.. She is one of the best written main female characters I've seen in any shounen anime ... Her complicated persona and the growth she had throughout the anime you've covered it really well... Very good video
An interesting and entertaining analysis! The one thing I was surprised to not hear discussed was Nami's behavior towards Sanji after the Sanji v Luffy fight in Whole Cake; I think her behavior there is a good example of how much more secure she's become in her relationships since the Usopp v Luffy fight, that she's now willing herself to hold her friends to a high standard and call them out when they're screwing up big-time. Edit: Also, maybe her mostly-indifferent reaction to the fake straw hats when they accost her at the bar in Sabaody shows how she's risen to the level that Luffy and Zoro were at in Jaya, in terms of recognizing that someone can be so far beneath you that they aren't even worth fighting.
I always thought of that scene as a parallel to when Bellemere slapped Nami just because of her calling Nojiko as not her real sister. Its like spending many times with your loved ones for it to end up just calling him/her negative. That is what at least Nami got from her mom Bellemere when she slapped her which is the same thing she did to Sanji when he called Luffy a low-class pirate and even beat him up
Plus in order to tell someone that you are mad at them is to expect them to care enough for your hurt to mean something to them. She not only felt secure enough to call him out without the expectation of it harming their relationship, but knew he cared about her enough to validate her feelings. Even if his reaction was just getting excited, we all know part of that excitement was because her putting him to work meant she still cared about him and her forgiveness could come eventually.
So many people underestimates her without realizing that without her the ship doesn't move. Yeah Luffy is the captain of the straw hats but on that ship only Nami orders everybody around. I also love her motherly nature and how she comport herself around kids. For years I wish that the east blue villains would be part of Blackbeard or cross guild but especially for Nami I vould love for her to get to have another interaction with Arlong.
The poor Boy... He wouldnt stand a Chance anymore... She was always smart but with Usopps weapon and Zeus living in it... This fish is done... And our Girl is now mature enough to Talk him down as well
Nami is the Navigator but unofficially she's the Quartermaster, which for real-life pirates was probably THE most important position on the ship, sometimes above the Captain depending on the situation. A quartermaster served to counterbalance the captain and was in charge of navigation, day-to-day operations, provisions, basically everything except pirating (and even there often led the boarding team), and could veto the captain on non-battle things.
Nami is straight up my favorite one piece character. The way she is written is just so phenomenal, for example her love of berries tying back to her years with arlong 🍊🍊
I have read One Piece for the better part of my life, 15 years I spent with this series and Mark, I don't know how to say it but the joy it brings me to learn even more reasons why I appreciate it through someone who analyzes character and story telling like you do is immeasurable. I am crying like a fucking baby, so many emotions stemming from just how beautiful this story is. Thank you
This is why Nami is my Top 5 characters in One Piece. I hate that some people mocking Nami by how she acts around strong enemy. Instead I love that she's so normal and relatable. Imagine you as a "normal" person who don't have immense power surrounded by monster, I would be terrified too. On the other hand, her character growth is one of the subtle yet amazing just like Mark said. This girl needs to survived alone for years and got no one to depend on, so my heart is always ache for her in moments like Water 7 and Wholecake where she saw by her own eyes how her family was falling apart.
Sanji felt that Nami slap more painful than all the other beating he received from Nami. Same thing with Nami's childhood when she felt the slap from Bellemere more painful than all the spanking she received from her
That slap wasn't about missing him. That was a slap of disappointment. She was looking in a mirror of herself from back in East Blue. Your past caught up, and now you're trying to hurt and push others away so you can martyr yourself so the others can go on. When all you needed to do was ask for help. Nami did it, Robin did it, and here Sanji is repeating the same thing. When he should really know better.
For a second I was gonna say "watch your tone". People absolutely simp for characters like her and that misread can lead to questionable thoughts.@@MrDp115
You know, until Jinbe came into the story, Nami was my favorite character, and this video explains it so well. The level in which I relate to her was what always kept me interested early on.
Nami and Zoro's development have been consistently paced. Despite Nami not beating major opponents, never have i felt something was missing from her in that arc. Same goes for Zoro. While Luffy gets the attention he should as MC, other strawhats development pace is either sporadic like Usopp, Robin or slow paced like Franky, Chopper.
This video explains why she is my favourite 2nd straw hat after Luffy perfectly, I wouldn't be able to explain it so well myself, she's a much deeper character than people give her credit for and this video makes me further realise why I like her character so much.
There are three reasons I love Nami 1. She is a female just like me... That gives her a headstart... I wont deny that 2. She isnt a fighter... She knows she isnt a fighter... But she can stand her ground and she doesnt feel to be useless because she isnt due to her skillset of navigation, thieving, money handeling... In addition she has her boys in check affordlessly and I love it 3. The way she learnd to trust and to keep believing in this trust... All on her on in east blue Asking for help during Arlong Park (my fav arc in OP btw) Fighting for those she trust during Baroque works Saga Realising that no matter the surcumstances she can rely on her crew at Skypia (last time ever she doubts Luffy) Knowing where their strength comes from in Water 7 and showing this strength at Ennis Lobby Forming strategies around the behavior of her crew in the new world And the unwavering belive in Luffy at Onigashima first in front of Ulti but imo more importantly in front of KAIDO... She knows he isnt dead... She knows he will come back... And she knows he will be victorious in the end however long it takes or no matter how often he will be beaten down...
I think Nami is like Luffy, where she changes a little at a time over the many years of the story (long after Arlong Park). I love getting to hear someone else discuss her in this much depth.
Nami is easily one of my favourite characters and the most important Straw Hat, everyone would have died 10 minutes after entering the Grandline. Hell I doubt they would have made it up reverse mountain without her. Her navigation skills, handling the money and able to take charge are so important. Yes in battle she might be one of the weaker members but every crew member has a key role which Luffy needs to become Pirate King. Oda loves Nami so much he basically married her in real life.
This is small but one of my favourite Nami moments in the whole series is during Post Enies Lobby. The townsfolk confiscated everything from the Merry after thinking them responsible for Ice pops death. Nami was so down thinking everything had been lost but the second the townsfolk brought their stuff back she immediately jumps up, hugging the tangerine trees. It's telling that thats what she worried about above all else. To her, those trees are irreplaceable.
Wow this video is so well made. I nearly teared up when you cut to Luffy’s face close up stuck between those two buildings. To realize what they were all facing at that moment is heartbreaking. Amazing writing by Oda and amazing writing by some guy not Mark. Keep these videos coming. They’re gold.
29:10 nami suffered for almost a decade under arlong. lost her childhood, learned stuff about the world too early. she's only been with the straw hats a little over 2 years and she tells that jinbei, someone who has a hand at the terrors she faced. and people say she's been forgotten, or that she doesn't serve any use to the crew. mark, i'm so excited what you'll bring to the table about franky, brook and chopper.
Nami is my favorite character for a lot of the points you've brought up. She's had so much growth but the majority of it has been subtle, occurring after Arlong Park.
Even though I dislike Nami at times, I relate to her a lot. She is in a world of monsters, had her life revolve around monsters from War that took her bio family, to Arlong taking away her new family and then fighting the monsters of the world is insane. She is the guide that leads everyone through storms and she is one of the most dependable people, some of the time.
I already loved Namis character but this just elevated it to completely different heights. so wonderfully put together why we love the one and only navigator of the Strawhat pirates.
*I know this is a One Piece video, but this is your most recent video. RIP Akira Toriyama. And my condolences to all who grew up with DB, DBZ, and Akira Toriyama’s work.*
Nami always was one of my absolute favorite characters in all of fiction. Now you've got me literally crying. What a beautiful, complex, and powerful woman she is.
Nami's unparalleled growth and "plot" development has been so great to see, and her dream of mapping the entire world will be amazing to see completed, definitely one of the harder ones to do.
And it will help so many people travel safely. Everybody will be free to finally travel where they want, and her map will help them find their way! The epilogue to One Piece will be so cathartic, I both can't wait to see it and also am not prepared
dang, this "anatomy of one piece" series of yours is hella good! i've just finished zoro's, luffy's and now nami's and they've ALL changed my perspective on these characters that i thought i knew a lot about already. you recontextualized SO MANY VITAL SCENES OF THEIRS that i previously was just confused by and didn't really understand. this is SUCH an underrated series of youtube videos, man, GOSH!
I really like the parallel between Nami and Zoro being shown here. While Zoro and Sanji are the wings of Luffy, his right and left hand, Zoro and Nami on the other hand are almost a parental influence on the crew as a whole. As pointed out, Nami has a very maternal presence within the crew, something that is present throughout. Zoro on the other hand, has what I would call a more paternal presence, and one that only pops up when the situation calls for it, whether it is the situation with Chopper or Usopp. In this sense the two balance one another out, and it serves both the crew, as well as Luffy, very well, I don't think he could have asked for any better first two crewmates than these two.
Zoro is not a paternal presence. He's the muscle and one of the wings. Luffy is the paternal presence because the responsibility of protecting the crew falls directly on his shoulders.
This is one of the biggest reasons why I love this crew and series: EVERYONE has this depth to them. Luffy is the MC, but the fact that the entire crew has a role to play, balance each other out with their strengths and weaknesses, and a depth to them that never leaves them forgotten or in the background is why they all deserve to be here on this crew. Honestly, I can't wait until they reach Laugh Tale. In my brain, I imagine that there will be a two-page spread for us, the readers or watchers, that show Nami's map of the entire world that highlights where we've been, and I can't wait
Nami in many ways feels she was the first Straw Hat in terms of a character narrative. She possess virtually all the skills Luffy lacks in other than fighting ability. Nami is the navigator, strategist, thief and natural planner. While Zoro is important, in the beginning he doesn't offer Luffy anything except for raw power, which already had himself.
If you look a little deeper you see that even their dreams are interconnected. Luffys dream of being pirate king and the most free person sailing the seas and adventuring. While Nami wants to map ever corner of the world. Luffy would be adrift with out her and she is not strong enough to face alot of the challenges on the grand line. That's why regradless of their relationship type I see them saling together for as long as possible. Their characters were written to complete each other. That's how important she is to the story and why her character was in all three forms of romance dawn in some form.
My favorite Nami scene of all time is back in Baroque Works arc, where she was almost fainting for sickness and she still predicted a cyclone and saved the entire crew from certain death. Vivi's words: "Incredible... a cyclone on the grand line's said to be impossible to predict... this girl isn't just predicting the weather, based on weather forecast theories... its almost as if she's directly feeling the minute happenings of the climate itself!". This scenes gives me shivers down the spine. Nami is freaking legendary. The strathats are a colletive. It is one thing that I really love in One Piece and that stands out on the shounen genre. Every single character in the crew isn't only important. They are indispensable. No matter the powerscale, the crew wouldn't be where they are without any of the members. All the success they had so far was thanks to every single one of them.
What I love about Luffy and Nami's relationship, whether you ship them or not, is both how deep and trusting their bond is. When they first met each other, they didn't have a high opinion of each other (Luffy disliking Nami's lack of resolve and disdain for piracy, while she disliked Luffy's status as a pirate and dream of being King of the Pirates). However, as they spent more time together their bond deepened (Luffy coming to appreciate her hidden soft side and respecting her naviagational abilities, while she grew to adore his kindness and enthusiasim). However, they hit a hurdle when Nami took Merry to pay off her debt to Arlong, as Nami didn't trust Luffy to help her with Arlong and Luffy's lack of interest in the island's plight and intention to leave infuriating her. So, when Nami asks Luffy for help after Arlong uses Marines to steal her money, Luffy gives her his treasured hat for saftey (the only one given the honor) and goes off to beat Arlong for making Nami cry. Then comes the most important scene for their relationship in the Arlong Park arc; during the fight Luffy is thrown into Nami's map room at the park and starts demolishing everything in the room and the tower along with it after he finds the blood stained pen. Scars, physically or mentally can't disappear, but chains can be broken; by destroy the map room he is freeing Nami from her torment of making maps for treacherous fishman, an act Nami will be eternally grateful for and happily agrees when Luffy declares their friendship and/or status as a crew member. Luffy has finally given her the freedom she so desperately craved and Nami helps the former get to go on this grand aventure. We get to see this bond shown to grow throughout various moments in the series: Nami trusting Luffy to carry her to the doctor during a blizzard, Nami refusing to join Enel after he seemingly defeats Luffy, Luffy wanting to have her help him steal the gold from the shandians, Nami giving Luffy the resolve to save Robin, the agony Luffy had from losing her (and the rest of the crew) and her shedding tears from Luffy's loss of Ace, the hug scene, and so much more. Ultimately, the biggest throughline in their relationship is their deep unconditional love and care for each other (whether romantic or plantonic) and I hope we get to see more of their interactions in the series.
Incredible video, that moment in Onigashima really clotures her development the best, and that's when you realize how far she's come since Arlong Park. Putting her life on her line for not wanting to lie is against everything she used to be standing for. Props to you for this great analysis
Damn I love your videos! Thanks for understanding Nami 🙏 It's crazy that despite being so popular, she's so greatly truly misunderstood and/or underappreciated.
Man you just made me cry like 10 times in one video😭😭 Luffy, Usopp and Nami are my favourite characters and I love Nami so so much. I also feel like she's one of the people who makes the funniest situations. Jaya, and Water 7 shined because of her and she's a much needed constraint to luffy's carelessness. She gets a lot of hate for it, but I think Luffy needs to be reigned in a bit to keep everyone safe and focussed. Also, Luffy is strong enough to overrule her when he deems it necessary, so Nami is never really standing in the way.
your videos about one piece gives me a deeper understanding of the story of one piece and in further makes me fall in love with it even more as opposed to how I felt about it mare months ago. now I am at Enis lobby and I'll see it through. once again a great videos and I hope the next one comes soon.
I loved Nami literally the second I saw her. It was so beautiful to me that her arch in Arlong Park was what showed me what this story really was. Her story was the first time OP had me sobbing and screaming "Kick his ass Luffy!" At my screen.
Thank you so much for this video! I'd like to express my sorrow over the passing of Akira Toriyama because I know how much his work meant to you personally. It's a huge blow to the anime community, so I wanted to say how much I appreciate all the hard work you and your team put into making this content. Please take care and as always I look forward to anything you guys post :)
Oooh I love this! I am not even such a huge fan of Nami but you really hit the nail on the head and I was so happy you mentioned that little scene in Wano. That one really hit home for me how far she had come.
22:46 ok seriously mark. Whoever does the edits on these videos needs to get some love! For real im blown away with how well the music always fits. There are times that i honestly think they did just as good if not better than the original audio. 10/10
I have only shed tears two times during the time I've watched One Piece. Out of all 1000+ episodes of show, it has made me physically cry only twice. The first time was the argument between Luffy and Usopp before their duel. The second time was that scene in Wano, where Ulti wanted Nami to talk down about Luffy, to save her own life. But Nami didn't cave. She stood firm on her belief and trust in Luffy. Before this, she would be the type to turn tail and flee; to throw someone else at danger so she could get away, or even just to lie. But in this scene, in Wano, she speaks exactly what she believes is true. She speaks good on Luffy's name, declares his dream and their collective conviction, all at what could very well have ended her life. That gave me a whole new respect for Nami as a character. Her declaration of confidence in Luffy and his dream, despite it potentially ending her very life, made me fucking sob. That scene is incredibly powerful to me, and evidently shows a considerable amount of character growth for her.
re-watching those scenes makes me sob every, single, time... 😭 another amazing character analysis! can't wait to watch Usopp's and the rest of the crew next!!
I'm glad you brought up her moment in Onigashima. I remember catching up to the manga around this point and being thrilled to see the character development and growth of my second favourite character in this series in the forefront of the chapter. She got her "Pirate King" moment. It hits harder for me too since it takes place after she has a moment of trepidation and Franky gets his Pirate King moment while reassuring her.
You know what? I have seeing some other characters analysis from one piece, and is so beautiful how can every persona can capture and interpret each moment or development. I'm truly glad that you are now part of the one piece community and how wonders you add to it. Thanks
These bring memories of stuff that I've forgotten through the many years of One Piece I've consumed. It makes me excited for the new anime which might retell the story at a faster pace, but if done right, will just make the important connections like Jimbe apologizing to Nami or Sanji calling himself "prince" way back on the fight against baroque works hit way harder.
The editing around 8:40ish made me laugh out loud. Thank you! Video was fantastic and I love the character series, please keep making fantastic stuff Mark!
Nah 32 minute nami video there is no way the wait was THIS worth it. I loved the luffy and zoro videos and im sure this one will be no different. Thank you for your content!
Finally my favourite series on TH-cam right now returns been hyped for this, you really put what we want to say about one piece all in one video. Can't wait for the Sanji one, to see what you say about the best written character in the show, and I'm sure the Usopp one will be great too
We see so many “what if” videos, theory videos, solve Oda’s puzzle videos, world conspiracy videos, but we don’t get enough videos with as comprehensive insite into the lifeblood of the story, the characters, as Mark has provided over the past month and a half. And I understand why, a video like this takes enough time and effort that to produce them in less than two weeks would compromise the effort. And we all know the algorithm doesn’t like those lengthy delays in upcast. Thankfully Mark has taken Nani’s que and held his ground in producing the type of videos he wants to create and released gems like this. I want to rewatch One Piece now.
It's shounen. Friendship, flashbacks, recaps, and a lot of staring into space. But I don't know to many animes that take this much stock in the continuous development of a character, and if they have this kind of story for Nami, I can only imagine for the rest of the crew. Just made it to Arlong, and I'm happy.
Nami became my favorite character on a second read-through.
My two favorite lines are never discussed, both in Water 7. "Forget about the money, at least you're safe" and "Thank God we can get Robin back if we just fight the government" are moments where she breaks her own tropes.
Nami is the reason I got invested into One Piece, Arlong Park is beautifully written.

Agreed. This and the moment in Enies Lobby where they declare war on the world government and Usopp shots down the flag belong to my absolute favorite moments
I really loved how brave Nami was in Wano first defending Luffy from Ulti and then from Kaido.
She has grown so much.
I hate how nobody also mentions how she stood by Luffy in an unwinnable fight in whole cake island. When big mom sent an entire army against them.
@@Rebel-cd6gc true and against Cracker.
Nami being a navigator is just perfect for her character
I have lived in Florida for my whole life (for better or worse), famous for its oranges, and the significance of tangerines in Nami's story resonated with me deeply so that it has given me an appreciation of my own home like nothing else ever has.
Resonated with you so much that even your default TH-cam avatar is orange.
They’re actually not Tangerines, but a Japanese Citrus Fruit called Mikan’s.
@@goodhelmetjunior3399I thought that was Japanese for tangerines?
I hope you get better soon
Nope, the Scientific names for Tangerines are "Citrus x tangerina" Mikans are "Citrus unshiu" @@haileys5224
That is what at least Nami got from her mom Bellemere when she slapped her which is the same thing she did to Sanji when he called Luffy a low-class pirate and even beat him up
@@second1387interesting
Plus in order to tell someone that you are mad at them is to expect them to care enough for your hurt to mean something to them. She not only felt secure enough to call him out without the expectation of it harming their relationship, but knew he cared about her enough to validate her feelings. Even if his reaction was just getting excited, we all know part of that excitement was because her putting him to work meant she still cared about him and her forgiveness could come eventually.
@second1387 oh my gosh that's such a good point!! Oh wow

Yea theres so many moments on screen that she saves their lives ... and there is probably 10 times more off screen inbetween adventures

or don't operate properly.
Can u say that knowing that Jimbei is apart of the crew now
Nami is straight up my favorite one piece character.
I’m surprised you never spoke about WCI. Her slap on Sanji was so powerful for her character. She missed him so much.
Sanji felt that Nami slap more painful than all the other beating he received from Nami. Same thing with Nami's childhood when she felt the slap from Bellemere more painful than all the spanking she received from her
@@second1387ofc
Ye
That slap wasn't about missing him. That was a slap of disappointment. She was looking in a mirror of herself from back in East Blue. Your past caught up, and now you're trying to hurt and push others away so you can martyr yourself so the others can go on. When all you needed to do was ask for help. Nami did it, Robin did it, and here Sanji is repeating the same thing. When he should really know better.
Nami’s theme song in the Anime really captures the core of her story and personality. The song is so melancholy and Bittersweet at the same time
Definitely one of the most standout Straw Hat character themes there for sure
I read the notification as ‘the anatomy of Nami’, I was asking myself what the hell was that vid doing in my feed…

For a second I was gonna say "watch your tone". People absolutely simp for characters like her and that misread can lead to questionable thoughts.@@MrDp115
Here's two big reasons why Nami is great.
@@lifeloverNorrisGlorious tracts of land!
I love how we all immediately came here to say our condolences 🙁
There are three reasons I love Nami
1. She is a female just like me... That gives her a headstart... I wont deny that
2. She isnt a fighter... She knows she isnt a fighter... But she can stand her ground and she doesnt feel to be useless because she isnt due to her skillset of navigation, thieving, money handeling... In addition she has her boys in check affordlessly and I love it
3. The way she learnd to trust and to keep believing in this trust...
All on her on in east blue
Asking for help during Arlong Park (my fav arc in OP btw)
Fighting for those she trust during Baroque works Saga
Realising that no matter the surcumstances she can rely on her crew at Skypia (last time ever she doubts Luffy)
Knowing where their strength comes from in Water 7 and showing this strength at Ennis Lobby
Forming strategies around the behavior of her crew in the new world
And the unwavering belive in Luffy at Onigashima first in front of Ulti but imo more importantly in front of KAIDO... She knows he isnt dead... She knows he will come back... And she knows he will be victorious in the end however long it takes or no matter how often he will be beaten down...
W
I think Nami is like Luffy, where she changes a little at a time over the many years of the story (long after Arlong Park). I love getting to hear someone else discuss her in this much depth.
Luffy..also has fear of being alone. He once said that to ace.
I love how the Wano scene mirror’s Belle-mere’s death.
Props to the editor and your work. I never made that connection between Nami and Robin in W7 before, what a great analysis!
And then Sanji on Whole Cake
R.I.P. goat. 🐐 . My thoughts are with you mark and team four star as well as geektome 101 y'all have to be hurting bad right now
Nami is my favorite character for a lot of the points you've brought up. She's had so much growth but the majority of it has been subtle, occurring after Arlong Park.
"luffy.. help me" That's the moment that got me hooked😢😢😢😢😢
Chills
Literal chills
Me first chunk of arcs: These are fun characters!
Me after that scene: I would die for these characters
You just know Mark is preparing a special video from his heart right now after reading what just happened
Are you gonna make a video about Toriyama? I feel like you would have some beautiful words to say and your tribute to him would be grand.
Nami's growth post Arlong park is subtle, yet this video managed to pick it up. Kudos.
*I know this is a One Piece video, but this is your most recent video. RIP Akira Toriyama. And my condolences to all who grew up with DB, DBZ, and Akira Toriyama’s work.*
god bless that man, he was the reason manga became popular
Nami always was one of my absolute favorite characters in all of fiction. Now you've got me literally crying. What a beautiful, complex, and powerful woman she is.
Very strong video, she has been one of my favorite, if not my overall favorite straw hat because of the nuance and raw emotion she brings.
People complain about one piece being so long but when character arcs are like this it’s worth the wait. Best show
I really like the parallel between Nami and Zoro being shown here.
@@Sebster85lol cry zoro hater you know its the truth
@@Sebster85I feel he more plays a big brother role then a parental role
Nami is a fantastic character she brings SO much to the series.
A lot of people write her off as just "fanservice" or "orange Sakura" which I always thought was selling her short in a lot of regards.
Both of those are insulting to her as a character.
That's because many One Piece readers are actually illiterate.
@@MrDp115fr
The only character that owns the "orange sakura" would be orihime and that's only during the hueco mundo arc
She is also technically the chief of staff like Laffite for Blackbeards crew and Sabo for the Revolutionary army.
Oda made her well for the original plan i guess.

Nami's growth as a character is amazing. it's been a pleasure to follow her story
RIP Toriyama-Sensei, thank you for all your great work in further promoting his work and ideas, Mark!
So glad you mentioned the Nami and Ulti scene. Stellar production as always, Mark!
Nami doesn’t always get credit for how deeply kind she is.
I think this is a great series your making! I love the in depth analysis of our beloved one piece characters!

I really loved the look at Nami's development in Skypiea, I hadn't noticed those bits before.
Truly a brilliant video essay. No one has gotten close to capturing these elements in such a clear and concise message. Bravo! 👏🏾

I'm currently at fishmen island and I absolutely love the moment Jimbe tells the story of Fisher Tiger (thus Arlong) I absolutely love Nami
I also like how Nami handled the fight between Sanji and Luffy It shows her growth post time skip there as well
I'm really enjoying this series of videos so far. With a story as long as one piece it's easy to forget just how much every character has gone through
re-watching those scenes makes me sob every, single, time... 😭

Thank you for making such a wonderful video. Nami is my favorite character.

Bro you capture the true essence of story, keep it up your writing hits the heart ❤️
You have single handedly convinced me to watch One Piece beginning to end.
I can not stop crying
It's a great ride, only issue is the pacing
It's shounen. Friendship, flashbacks, recaps, and a lot of staring into space. But I don't know to many animes that take this much stock in the continuous development of a character, and if they have this kind of story for Nami, I can only imagine for the rest of the crew. Just made it to Arlong, and I'm happy.
Honestly the writing just keeps getting better as well with each arc
