    G'day Mate, I love these truck's Chevy Blitz, or CMP or Canadian Military Patent Vehicle, I actually have a genuine WW2 workshop manual for them covering all the different variants. It is great to look through at the pictures etc, from engine to winch to everything, I love it.
    Take Care, Steve.

    School bus C channel frame.
    Lots of farmers cut down old school busses for the engine/ frame to use as custom hay haullers so there's no reason it wouldn't work.

    Yeah I have to agree with others, weld up the broken peices and use it. Just take it to your acreage and have fun. Not like it will ever see road use while there

      Field Artillery Tractors were made by Ford and Chevrolet to common specifications on shortened 60cwt (3 ton) chassis. The Limber Gunners section of the Toronto Artillery has a restored Chevrolet with limber and a 25 pound field gun. Recently an other limber and field gun was acquired from the Irish Army when they phased out the 25 pounder in favour of the 105mm. NATO spec gun. They are currently looking for another FAT (sometimes refered to as a "QUAD") to restore so they can have two units.

    Knock out whats left of the Rivets and replace with grade 8 bolts. Straighten the frame out at a frame straightner. Lastly box in the frame and add to the thin rusted frame. Boom done. I hate to say this but Jeep guys do this all the time there frames are the first thing to rust out. They take and cut out the rust and fix its part of the process.

    Hi.do you know where to get parts to similar car? King bolt? Spring bolt? Engine parts?

  • @rickjames9477
    @rickjames9477 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    you do realize basically every transport truck is custom made right Louie? You can buy new straight frame rails with hole already in locations needed or not. Cross members can be bought as well in any configuration needed. I'd get two rails and make ur own cross memebers... You could even get a double rail.

      ya but then it isnt a cmp original frame...not good for a restoration, I think I have a line on a good one now.

    Hi, my CGT ( not a FAT as said in the video. FAT is Ford, CGT is Chevrolet) is in the same condition : a complete restored front and an unrestored cut off back body floor. Even the two back doors have been cut off. Cheers from Belgium.

    Is the plywood in the back wall of the Cab bullet proof ?

    If it were up to me, I would re-purpose those rear axles from the build you had to cancel, extend the frame of the new project and turn that Gun Carriage into a 6x6. That would be pretty badass if historical accuracy isn't what you're going for.

    I have seen pictures of a British one that I THINK had a double cab it was towing a 25 pounder gun I think I understand 105 and 155 mm, I was in the US Navy, 3 inch, 5 inch guns but I don't understand 25 pounder as in barrel size.
    I THINK 25 pounder refers to weight of the shell.
    Thank you for potting your "toys-projects" on the internet, I do enjoy.
    Have also been watching "Old Time Machine shop" or "Old time Steam Machine Shop" out of Northern New York State.

      The 25 lb. would be a spherical ball made of lead (or maybe Iron) that just fits the bore would weigh 25 lbs. I looked it up and it should be an 87.6 mm.

    • @CrusaderSports250
      @CrusaderSports250 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Or a limber in British speak, the 25lbs gun and, limber combination was often towed by a Morris quad, they were generically known as fats, field artillery tractors, and yes your one would look good with a gun and limber, not sure about the fuel consumption,, but they never worried about that at the time☺.

  • @NickRatnieks
    @NickRatnieks 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The tractor unit tows a limber which is attached to the gun. Apparently, the CMP FAT was based on this British vehicle- the Morris C8:en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morris_C8

    Such a shame the chassis on your other wagon is wrecked beyond repair, but keep bashing eBay and one in decent condition might come up for sale or auction. The second wagon is a Chevy C8A, built for the Royal Horse Artillery as a Field Artillery Tractor to tow their 25 Pounder Field Gun and Limber(Ammo Trailer). There are two types of bodywork they were fitted, first is a light armoured Beetle Back with built in cab housing the five man gun crew, like the Morris Commercial C8 Quad. Yours has the standard soft skin lorry type cab with a short box body, an arrangement similar to the larger Bedford QL Artillery Tractor. Engine is a three point five litre 90 horsepower Bedford Chevy 'Stovebolt' six twirling a four speed crash gearbox, a single or two speed transfer box with selectable four wheel drive, and a PTO for the winch. You can drop the C8A,s engine and gearbox into a Bedford QL Three Ton Lorry, as both are identical.
