Thank you, Vincent, for this outstanding rendition of this traditional song which has accompanied my life, too. I wish you strength and health, so that we may enjoy more of your songs. I know this sounds selfish, but above all, keep it up and enjoy your life!
cheers Sean your a mind reader I was talking about Vincent and traditional music recently I saw him in the background of a Seamus upload he must be 83/4 years old now. what a beautiful rendition of a tragic sad song. have a great weekend folks.❤👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Well done ,Vincent, as an Australian I really appreciate your rendition, my Grandfather was in WW1 and my Father in WW2, both returned home. They were altered, Pa with TB and the 'Old Man' with PSTD, cheers Mate.
One more point mate, if you were singing this in on one of the main streets of Sydney instead of Dublin, you would have a captive audience and it would have been much appreciated, once again thank you.
WOW! My breath is taken away by this performance. I bow in awe before Vincent and his haunting interpretation of this anti-war song. I have never heard a better cover of the song, and I know it in several versions. Thank you Sean, even if it makes my heart bleed.
Im a bit lost for words. What an incredible performance. Eric Bogle wrote a powerful song, that still resonates with us today. And you, sir, have done it more than justice, you felt every word and gave us something precious. As a live music lover, I applaude you. As an anti war advocate, I thank you and as an Australian, I am moved to tears. I will remember this performance, and cherish it, for some time to come. Thank you and peace. ❤
Incredibly moving performance of an incredibly moving song which is very much part of my heritage and my past but I haven't heard it for years. I could barely breathe while listening. Thank you so much, Vincent - and Sean for capturing it. Greetings from Australia. ❤
At the marble church in Bodelwyddn there are a number of canadian war graves. Some graves are of the nurses. My grandad was also fighting in the somne. Its so easy to forget. This was a magnificent tribute. Thankyou on behalf of all those who cannot say it themselves.
An amazing performance by Vincent of a very sad & poignant song highlighting the horrors of war that are still very much with us today. Thank you Vincent and thank you Sean for posting this video.
I was privileged to see and hear Liam Clancy perform this song in the Seventies. It was the first time I ever heard it. This gentleman, does the song proud and performs it no less exquisitely than Liam.
Vincent you do this great song justice mate, it's just a pity that the people all around and passing by never even gave you a second look, from an admirer in Australia.
Vincent sings with such passion, every word is like a pearl, what an amazing song on every level, & no better man than Vincent to bring it to us. Thanks DCT for being there for this deep magical moment.❤😮
Great song. Pity that people passing by have no idea what a story they are missing. Hope I will see this man when I get over to Dub and I'll be happy to buy him a pint.
Some things are highly valued, thankyou vincent and dct for reminding us. The marble church at bodelwyddn? has lots of ww1 graves, mostly canadian, please call to pay respects instead of driving past on the a55.
Thank you, Vincent, for this outstanding rendition of a serious song which has accompanied my life, too, and is so important these days in our crazy world. I'd like to wish you good health and strength so that you'll be able to sing for us more often. This sounds very selfish, but, of course, I wish you all the best - stay well and enjoy your life!
Thank you Vincent, I am Australian and know this Moving song well written and performed by Eric Bogle...You really did it justice and tomorrow 25th April is ANZAC day here in Australia when we pay homage to all the fallen Aussies and Kiwis in all wars...Lest We Forget!
I've always loved this song. It's one of the best anti war songs ever written. My grandfather fought in WWII. He was at Normandy a day to two after the invasion and saw all the death, then had to build the bridges across Europe. I remember he told me he learned O Tannenbaum from the Germans on Christmas eve. Both sides were tired of war and wanted a break, so the Germans and Americans danced.
Vincent" Dublin city Today, thank you for this amazing cover! people have no idea what your singing about.........so its so frustrating... i want to stop them and say bloody listen!!!!!!!!
A sad song that was performed masterfully! As a university history student, I studied the Gallipoli Campaign in detail. The word that best describes it is, "fiasco". A lot of really stupid things took place on the part of the British. It was sad and embarrassing for them.
Brilliant version. You've done Eric Bogle proud! One of my Great Uncles was killed at Gallipoli, another returned but was sent to France where he was gassed with mustard gas. He died young of lung disease. One tiny correction on the lyrics. It's "dusty" outback, not "dirty". The outback is known for its dryness and red dust.
The indefferent crowd is poignant to the message of the song. The war is already forgotten, and the world goes by ready to repeat the same tragedies with no way to avoid it.
That is the worst thing to see. No one can fault them. The worst part is, that everyone who listens to this song agrees, "wow this is awful, we should stop this." Then we all get excited for the next big war, about how we are right and they are wrong, and "it started all over again." And more old men come home, forgotten, their sacrifice forgotten.
Mate your comment is spot on, most people just couldn't give a toss, they only start crying when war actually hits them, for me personally whoever sings this great song does it justice and every time I hear it, it brings me to tears and regards Vincent, he sings it with such emotion, you can feel it in his voice, from an admirer in Australia.
In loving memory of Pop (Richard Fitzroy Cook, my mother’s father) and Bertie Osland, my father’s mother’s father. Both survived WW1. BTW ANZACs landed 25th April, 1915. Now that date is recognised as Anzac Day
The lyrics were a jumbled mess. Two significant errors included the year of the ANZAC landing at Gallipoli (it was 1915) and the incorrect final verse, which should be "And their ghosts may be heard as they march by the billabong..."

Vincent you do this great song justice mate, it's just a pity that the people all around and passing by never even gave you a second look, from an admirer in Australia.
We've all been guilty of walking past buskers. I'm certain the assembly off camera would've been impressed.
"Everywhere, where right and glory lead" Thank you Vincent for this priceless performance and reminder of all those who stood up right.
A DCT master class … all buskers take note

Simply brilliant
Tears come up, as he sang this ....all these wars, how many jewish people get killed by the germans, and now, ? When will they ever learn?

Total indifference around him, as the line in the song, "They turned their faces away"
this is amazing!
Great job thankyou mate!.

He's 85 years old, he did brilliantly.
Not an anti-war song. A war song.
@tileux there's always one🙄
