Great version both singing trucker and pub audience. American here always moved by hearing this song, know it from the Pogues.
Came here after watching scenes of tradies beat by police in Melbourne. Sad days all around.

They weren’t tradies. They were idiot anti vaxxers posing as Union members. As a tradie/member myself, I would have loved to give them a touch up myself for giving us a bad name.

@@roostersbays95 aah, I mean... while I get what you mean, plenty of English men died the same way. Lions lead by donkeys. All nations suffered from imperialism and shitty leadership. For those who gave the order, it was nothin but a numbers game of life. Just for a few feet of territorial gain... in reality it was bloody sacrifices of young men.

@@Toxicrabbit141 THats tru, ive just been reading about the English 52 nd and 60 th Infantry divisions in the 1st war palistinian campaign ably assisting the Aust Light Horse in Gaza ,Jordan valley Beersheba etc. There were a large cohort of Australian middle management officers whom were coming to the fore in the way of battle planning and engineering that would efficiently rationalize future eras of battles world wide .This to a certain extent lessened the casualties .Still though you are correct when you state about shitty leader ship.Sorry about the fodder / movies comment .The wars still loom large in my family trees, being descendants of south Australian battalions

The Crown used the peoples of the Commonwealth as cannon fodder for centuries. I married an Australian and asked her family "what has the crown ever done other than ask your young men to die?". Really never got an answer.

Good onya mate. Sung with the solemnity and ironicy of war, with the gut wrenching first person perspective of what it can do to a person.
