    This is not a discussion of which is 'better' regarding functionality. Rather, which is 'better' for the individual customer. ABC is an excellent design. But for those who are sick and tired of problem after problem........coilovers are a great option. A few don't like them. Many more do like them. You be the judge. My advice, base your judgement on actual experience with a Mercedes with properly installed and adjusted coilovers per vehicle requirements.
    This has become the most controversial video series that I've ever posted. Enjoy!

    For those who have gone through a line busting and the pump burning up on a sl or cl,if you go to the dealer you're going to have a nice bill.My 2002 cl500 I took to have it repaired and they told me for struts pump lines and blocks over 10 thousand,I'm going to switch to the coil overs,glad I found this on you tube.

      Whats the cost for coil overs

    • @jvakos
      @jvakos ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dgjordan24 about 90% less than the cost to replace ABC and 4 leaking struts, leaking pump, valve blocks, lines, etc. The Silvers you can obtain from Brandon and are under 1500 last I checked. Labor can be as low as $2k or as much as $4k assuming you have a really good MB trained tech (as I did) who made sure to remove carefully every ABC component and not just cut the lines out and gut the car. Mine is beautiful and I paid more to have it done where all the old ABC parts are still in tact (we removed about 300 pounds of weight from the ABC when stitching to Silvers coilovers)>

    Thanks for having an opinion other than a purist view. I've been fighting my S55 for 2 years and I think I may finally convert. I've done all of the right things to maintain it (flush with rodeo, accumulators, new tandem pump, constantly fixing leaks and I've had it. I can't trust the car to go very far and I hate it because I'm in fear of the next failure or massive leak. I've replaced, upgraded, tuned and rebuilt just about everything on the car and the suspension is the Achilles heel.

    I don’t understand why that happens in the U.S. People feel entitled to be the gate keepers for the Mercedes Benz brand. Meanwhile in Europe kids are slamming Mercedes Benz with air suspensions and coilovers and nobody gives a damn. 🤷🏾‍♂️

    • @goldelementautoworks
      @goldelementautoworks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I totally agree. It’s this weird arrogant entitlement syndrome because they finally own a used Mercedes-Benz and feel they’ve reached the pinnacle of success. “If you can’t afford to fix it, then why own it” mentality. And they say, if you change it….then it’s value has diminished….with the hope that their original car will one day be worth tens of thousands of dollars again. We won’t be alive when or if that happens. So why worry about it if it were true anyways? What they fail to acknowledge is…….it’s the owners car. They can add wings to it and fly it off a cliff if they’d like. All we are doing is making this beautiful automobile reliable and fun to drive care-free. It’s the user’s preference. So why criticize?

    Coilovers generally run a higher spring rate than OEM, this is always going to reduce roll, if you then engineer in a strong compression dampening rate you can control the roll a fair bit and will most likely roll less than OEM, but ABC is different it's an active system this is passive.
    Both work fine for automobiles but one is certainly a lot cheaper to maintain. 😎🤘

    • @goldelementautoworks
      @goldelementautoworks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! And good question. Being that good money is being made on these parts, they may continue to support the models. A lot of money for these parts. Price will likely go up in time.

      It is very comfortable. Front will be more firm than the rear. You have to find the comfortable rear setting where it’s firm enough where it doesn’t bounce. But soft enough that it’s comfortable. I enjoy my CL55 on Yellow Speed Racing. 👌🏾
