My first time seeing Tony Hawk was in the early 90's in Adelaide South Australia. He was with Buckey, Fankie Hill and others what a ledgend and seen him a few more times over the years❤
Unless vert Ramp? Also saw him at the Fulham Gardens Skate park when he ollied from the bowl to the capsule. Thought that was the sickest thing I'd ever seen.
@truckerruss5764 I'm sure we were there on the same day and also done a sweet 360 from the capsule to the donut. We then followed him to Unley and he done back to back 720's and on one of his stacks his board came our way and he shook our hand I still have not washed it to this day 🤣
I remember a segment in 87 on a nightly news program that profiled Tony Hawk and the commentater said that Tony named it The Madonna "because it's so awesome it takes your breath away". TV was called "PM Magazine" if there any othe roldsters out ther who remember.
In late ‘79 or early 1980 myself & a few friends were skating at Del Mar Skate Ranch & we saw this little kid in the half pipe slam hard & knock his teeth loose from that face plant . We ran over , helped him up ( he was dazed from the impact & blood was all over his jaw & shirt ) and we rushed him down to the office/ pro shop where Grant called his parents to come get him . I found out a day or so later it was a young Tony Hawk. Fast forward a couple decades later and I’m at Tony’s signing of his autobiography at the San Diego air & space museum with my oldest daughter ( she’s also a huge fan of his) and when my turn in line comes to have him sign my copy I relate my involvement at Del Mar to him. He stopped , stood up & reached over & shook my hand & hugged me & signed not only my copy & daughter’s copy of his book , but sent over an Autographed framed picture of him doing an amazing air outta the pool at Del Mar probably right about the end of the park’s life with the words “ Thanks Steve, Tony” written on it . I treasure those items and keep ‘em in my “ Man cave “ , and at almost 64 now myself wish I could do but HALF of what I used to do when I’m out skateboarding still . To see Tony still doing what he once did & even more is just mind boggling . Thanks Tony , for being you 😎👍
Minus the injuries and this video part he also is getting vert into the olympics while throwing official vert contests through out the year bringing up more vert skaters. He kinda do deserve SOTY with all that in a year.
Good God. I've been watching that man my whole life....to think that guy stomping trick after trick in 2023 is the same guy who stomped the 900 after 17 tanks in a row is crazy
Skateboarding officially has a pope now ! 😂 Mad respect. I feel blessed to have stood right next to him at our local skatepark. Caballero was there as well. The same thing kinda happened when i was bunking at a skateshop in Antwerp, Belgium...it was the night before a contest. They entire Hossoi team came to that shop to crash. We ate chinese and watched James Brown video tapes all thru the nite.
Tony is responsible for a generation of ppl, who fell in love w/ skateboarding, as well as becoming skateboarders. He’s 1 of 1. 🐐 If he doesn’t get SOTY, cool. He deserves countless 💐 for what he contributed to the world instead. 💯💯💯
@@williambarringer6513 The only reason why millions of normies started to skate and fell in love with the mind of Rodney Mullen in the first place is the video game.
Are we just glossing over the fact that Rodney did two tricks in this part? The man is never seen skating any more and is undeniably the absolute GOAT.
If you'd have told me when I was 14 and watching Animal Chin that TH would still be skating like this 36 years later, I definitely wouldn't have believed it.
Legacy, nostalgia, and all that aside, I genuinely think Tony's part deserves SOTY on merit. When was the last time a vert skater got SOTY? When was the last time a part largely filmed at one spot won someone SOTY? All the tricks that made the part looked effortless in a way that is inspiring rather than a way that makes it seem like nobody else will ever be *that* good.
Tony should get the award. This is sick at any age. Give him the award for staying committed for long enough to be that good at that age. Not to mention all the other things hes done this year to benefit the community.

Tony skates a full size vert like its a 3 foot mini... At 50+ years old. 🐐🐐🐐🐐
He’s had that ramp for 20 years
Legit curiosity. Is it harder to ride a big or mini vert? You can slide out easier on big I think but mini you can get bodied
yes you can slide out on a big ramp but if you come too far off the lip or something you get hurt pretty bad@@josiahamaze
