    Really, really, really great info, Zoe! Thank you! I'm a burgeoning patternmaker (I'm taking design courses at a local uni!), and I think the verb you're looking for RE: seam allowances is trueing (or at least fixing up SA's for directional pressing is part of the trueing process, as far as I understand and have practiced it).
    So, in this vid, you speak as a fashion designer. I would love to hear you talk about how a fashion designer builds a team/hires additional talent to bring garments to production, i.e., what to look for in/expect from a patternmaker, pattern grader, technical editor, tech pack maker, etc. Because it'd be super inefficient (and completely overwhelming) for one person, a fashion designer, to take on all that work. TIA for your consideration; always excited to see what you share with us. 💙

    Hi Zoe thank you for this video, it seems like many people are either uncomfortable to talk about this topic in detail or simply gatekeep this information, you happen to be one of very few who actually wants to help others to understand it better so thank you, videos like this are important & in detail which gives us a perspective on how it all actually works from inside out, no bs just calm collected straightforward information, if you can, if it's possible, please do more of these, tecqnical, production orientated, bussiness orientated etc.videos, I've seen many videos that sort of scare you away & overwhelm you intentionally, you don't.❤
    P.S. sorry for rambling, I love you & your work.😅❤

    This is why I do custom pieces… made to order cause in school grading and production was a headache and let’s not even talk about finding factories that will take on new clients with small minimums

    A COUPLE QUESTIONS. I’m so excited about this video. Thank you so much for sharing the process! I am not a designer. I just sketch things that I think I would love to wear myself. I don’t sew either. You see the problem here LOL! But I’ve often been curious about production. Two questions…what are the main reasons we don’t manufacture here in the US and what would it take to change that in a “perfect world” scenario for American designers wanting to produce here? Is it a lack of trade education, like it is for many things in America? I wonder about things like, why would it cost more to make things here when you don’t have to pay for shipping and other international costs? Does it all boil down to how much you need to pay for the labor and why do we pay less for labor elsewhere? I truly don’t know. I just know that if I see something online that I think looks AMAZING and I order it, what I receive is some awful material that I would never wear and stitching that lasts only long enough to pull the clothing onto my body but not off of it. The designs and material look so fabulous, but the size, quality and feel are horrid in reality. And that’s why I sketch what I would love to wear and make. Help a girl out? I want to understand. 😊 THANK YOU!!!

    This awesome information! I knew fashion was a lot but didn’t think there was so much that went into it. Question for you, Zoe. In your opinion, what is the solution to fast fashion? I feel like it has just gotten out of control and small boutique designers can’t get their foot in the door. Any advice would be amazing!

  • @dt6179
    @dt6179 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Hi Zoe. Do we need to send physical samples of the entire collection to every brick and motor store/ boutique stores along with the line sheets for them to place orders? Or do they just place orders by looking at just the line sheets and catalogue photoshoot of the collection? Specially for a new brand trying to do wholesale for the first time. How does that work. Love your videos really informative. Also would love a video on how a showroom/ agency helps brands in fashion buisness. What all do showrooms do for brands. Thank you

    Thank you for making this video! Def want a linesheet video. I have a question about the editorial pieces. Is there a certain number of editorial pieces a brand should offer each collection to capture attention from press and stylist? Should the editorial pieces be added to the line sheet to offer to buyers for production? If not, is it ok to have those editorial pieces for show to capture attention of press and stylist but not offer them?

    • @zoehongteaches
      @zoehongteaches  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      After editing, I found my line sheets video. It's in the description box. You don't add anything to a line sheet you're not planning to sell. What you choose to sell is up to you but you may find some interest if they're cool enough.
