When me and my friends were six years old we talked about choosing a proffesion like being a scientist, engineer, doctor, athlete. Now todays some of the six year olds are talking about whether they are boy or a girl.
I have never been a huge proponent of home schooling. Never outright against it of course. I grew up in a very conservative Christian area so this kind of thing was never a thing. But yeah, these days, wow, I can't imagine letting my children go to a public school. This stuff is insane.
I can destroy the entire trangender thing with just one question but I have many more angles on this. What exactly is the didactic value of teaching 5 year olds about gender identity? How will this improve their reasoning and problem solving capabilities? How does this translate into the more advanced curriculums? As far as I know, and I am certified in teaching kids from all ages, kids that age don't do well with abstract concepts like gender and identity because, well, kids 5 years old are just babies, their brains are as underdeveloped as their bodies, the pre-frontal cortex is just starting to shape at that age. Kids that age need to learn through touch, play and interaction. Like you give them a set of blocks with animals, objects and people and you ask them to sort them by their kind. Notice how such an example is tailored to stimulate things like sorting, reasoning and touch and isn't too abstract, you have physical blocks with actual pictures on them they can hold in their hand and is visual. And notice how it is extremely basic and very low resolution which allows for a nice transition into more complex stuff later on. It focusses on reasoning and sorting which are some of the most fundamental things you need to develop and translates into any skill, that way it is universal and benefits any child no matter their personal character. Can anybody see how gender identity would fit into such a curriculum? How does it focus on reasoning, spacial awareness, sorting, interaction, etc? Where is touch or play incorporated? How do you get a 5 year old to pay attention and actually absorb anything? How is it universal? It is a disgrace.

A discussion/topic that at 12 can be educational is often traumatizing, overly influencing, and confusing at 6. Plus, I can understand many parents feeling as if she crossed the line from being a teacher into being a parent and that parents want to decide when and if the topic should be presented to their kids, and want to do it themselves. There is the notion I'm sure many likely have that the teacher is pushing a political agenda on the children. There was a transgender student IN THIS CLASS and so it was important to teach the kids what transgender is, so that the student could feel accepted. I'm a teacher, albeit for an older age group. I find it hard to imagine that a teacher would wade into this without first discussing it at length with her superior(s), who in turn would have gone to the school board, the parent body, or both. Something is not adding up.

My 5 year old granddaughter was expecting a sibling and we were in the process of explaining, in appropriate age terms and resources, how contraception and birth works. She and a classmate got into an argument over whether boys could have babies. My granddaughter was reprimanded! She came home confused and humiliated.

I mean emotional education is also a big part of child development which I think is the bigger point of the lesson in relation to learning about different types of people and having empathy but I do think all of the adults in the situation need to be on the same page when having conversations relating to heavy and/or controversial topics. Also these conversations need to be well thought out, planned, and carefully curated. As a librarian, I consider every line and image of a book before reading it to children because you don’t want anything to be interpreted negatively. You also want to make sure you studied and understand every illustration and word to its fullest extent and that it is accurate and up to date because the smallest details could easily become harmful, even with the best intentions.

But, there are always things that are impossible to change and they have to love themselves how they are. We can’t change our race, we can’t change our sex, we can’t change where we were born, who our biological parents are… you can’t change a lot! And I think that’s actually quite beautiful in itself, that we all came from different places and have different stories. My question to you is, why don’t you love yourself as you are? Understand that, unfortunately, gender and sex are essentially the same thing with slightly different definitions. Although the dictionaries will say that gender is a behavioral thing now, it used to refer to the sexes and the sexes referred to physical body parts (if not, it’s chromosomes, but I looked up all of these definitions and it doesn’t say that). Gender identity is different, of course, but it’s based entirely on feelings. Hear me out on this: why do you feel so confined with male pronouns but feel better with female ones? You don’t have to necessarily follow gender roles despite what society may say and still be male. And are you sure you’re not insecure, or that you feel hurt in some other way? Is it genuine comfort, or is it just a slightly better feeling to be referred to as something different? Social constructs have nothing to do with these questions I’m asking. This is something that needs to addressed by school districts all across the country. That teachers don't need to be discussing this with their students. They are their students, "not their kids!" Being a parent myself I wouldn't be very pleased if a teacher at my childs school brought up that subject in my childs class. when i was in charter school and they were going to teach us about puberty in the 3rd grade they handed out permission slips to take home for parents to sign and approve. The parents taht didn't approve of the school teaching their children about this sensitive topic were segregated for that day. Boys and girls were separated
We were taught puberty in 5th grade and were handed permission slips to give to our parents to sign, too. Parents that didn't sign it their child was allowed to opt out of the lessons on puberty. The kids whose parents agreed, the boys and girls were separated too. At least they gave our parents a choice. I thought states have laws that say parents must be informed and included in the decision-making of what their kid can and can not learn about. If it is a topic that the school knows parents might have a problem with, then I by law, they have to notify the parents before proceeding with teaching the lessons in class. The schools these days are just bypassing these laws altogether. It's not fair to the parents. Parents have rights!

Just like you might buy a toy kitchen for a kid who says they want to be a chef, a child who thinks they’re a gender other than their birth gender can try different toys, clothes and pronouns that they like and make them comfortable. No medical procedures are ever done to children to transition at LEAST until age 12 or the beginning of puberty, so the child has a long time to figure these things now. For now, they’re doing as a child does: exploring. They might be transgender, or they might decide they fit better with their birth gender as they grow older. Either way, it’s good to let them explore the possibilities a little, in a non-committing way

I have never been a huge proponent of home schooling. Never outright against it of course. I grew up in a very conservative Christian area so this kind of thing was never a thing. But yeah, these days, wow, I can't imagine letting my children go to a public school. This stuff is insane.
I can destroy the entire trangender thing with just one question but I have many more angles on this.
What exactly is the didactic value of teaching 5 year olds about gender identity? How will this improve their reasoning and problem solving capabilities? How does this translate into the more advanced curriculums? As far as I know, and I am certified in teaching kids from all ages, kids that age don't do well with abstract concepts like gender and identity because, well, kids 5 years old are just babies, their brains are as underdeveloped as their bodies, the pre-frontal cortex is just starting to shape at that age.
Kids that age need to learn through touch, play and interaction. Like you give them a set of blocks with animals, objects and people and you ask them to sort them by their kind. Notice how such an example is tailored to stimulate things like sorting, reasoning and touch and isn't too abstract, you have physical blocks with actual pictures on them they can hold in their hand and is visual. And notice how it is extremely basic and very low resolution which allows for a nice transition into more complex stuff later on. It focusses on reasoning and sorting which are some of the most fundamental things you need to develop and translates into any skill, that way it is universal and benefits any child no matter their personal character.
Can anybody see how gender identity would fit into such a curriculum? How does it focus on reasoning, spacial awareness, sorting, interaction, etc? Where is touch or play incorporated? How do you get a 5 year old to pay attention and actually absorb anything? How is it universal?

A discussion/topic that at 12 can be educational is often traumatizing, overly influencing, and confusing at 6. Plus, I can understand many parents feeling as if she crossed the line from being a teacher into being a parent and that parents want to decide when and if the topic should be presented to their kids, and want to do it themselves. There is the notion I'm sure many likely have that the teacher is pushing a political agenda on the children. Bottom line for me though is that people who do not understand what is age appropriate, based on brain development /comprehension abilities at each stage of life, should not be working with children n any capacity.

There was a transgender student IN THIS CLASS and so it was important to teach the kids what transgender is, so that the student could feel accepted. You are more concerned about your agenda than the well-being of children...or, you just have no clue about child development. So, I won't be responding further.
Problem with this is they apologize saying they didn't mean to harm and the matter is forgotten. You must not let it slip like it's just a mistake. They know exactly what they are doing. They plan this. If you think they will stop, they will only try to do it in a way you can't tell it's them.

I mean emotional education is also a big part of child development which I think is the bigger point of the lesson in relation to learning about different types of people and having empathy but I do think all of the adults in the situation need to be on the same page when having conversations relating to heavy and/or controversial topics. Also these conversations need to be well thought out, planned, and carefully curated. As a librarian, I consider every line and image of a book before reading it to children because you don’t want anything to be interpreted negatively. You also want to make sure you studied and understand every illustration and word to its fullest extent and that it is accurate and up to date because the smallest details could easily become harmful, even with the best intentions.

Children can be who they want to be in lots of ways, especially as an independent adult. But, there are always things that are impossible to change and they have to love themselves how they are. We can’t change our race, we can’t change our sex, we can’t change where we were born, who our biological parents are… you can’t change a lot! And I think that’s actually quite beautiful in itself, that we all came from different places and have different stories. My question to you is, why don’t you love yourself as you are? Understand that, unfortunately, gender and sex are essentially the same thing with slightly different definitions. Although the dictionaries will say that gender is a behavioral thing now, it used to refer to the sexes and the sexes referred to physical body parts (if not, it’s chromosomes, but I looked up all of these definitions and it doesn’t say that). Gender identity is different, of course, but it’s based entirely on feelings. Hear me out on this: why do you feel so confined with male pronouns but feel better with female ones? You don’t have to necessarily follow gender roles despite what society may say and still be male. And are you sure you’re not insecure, or that you feel hurt in some other way? Is it genuine comfort, or is it just a slightly better feeling to be referred to as something different?
Social constructs have nothing to do with these questions I’m asking. I’m genuinely confused as to why you feel so strongly about being called a different gender so badly when it’s just a couple of words that aren’t even supposed to be offensive. This is something that needs to addressed by school districts all across the country. That teachers don't need to be discussing this with their students. They are their students, "not their kids!" Being a parent myself I wouldn't be very pleased if a teacher at my childs school brought up that subject in my childs class. I am disgusted, putting these ideas in the mind of children. All they should be thinking is playing, learning, eating, and knowing right from wrong . Not what's your right pronouns bull, but knowing how to restrain from lying and what to do in curtain situations.

Homeschool your children k-12. Don't listen to the LIE that it is too hard or kids won't be socialize. There are plenty of ways to socialize your children besides public school.
It is such bs. My son had a lot of friends he played with before he ever entered school. Like why would ur kid just stop being social? People just buy lies so easily.

when i was in charter school and they were going to teach us about puberty in the 3rd grade they handed out permission slips to take home for parents to sign and approve. The parents taht didn't approve of the school teaching their children about this sensitive topic were segregated for that day. Boys and girls were separated
We were taught puberty in 5th grade and were handed permission slips to give to our parents to sign, too. Parents that didn't sign it their child was allowed to opt out of the lessons on puberty. The kids whose parents agreed, the boys and girls were separated too. At least they gave our parents a choice. I thought states have laws that say parents must be informed and included in the decision-making of what their kid can and can not learn about. If it is a topic that the school knows parents might have a problem with, then I by law, they have to notify the parents before proceeding with teaching the lessons in class. The schools these days are just bypassing these laws altogether. It's not fair to the parents. Parents have rights!

It is 100% certain that this poor kid is being manipulated by some warped adult. At five years old, they have no idea if the want to be a lorry driver or a firefighter or an astronaut. And it changes every week. But you are positing that this child knows something of this magnitude so adamantly that they (the child) are requesting reassignment, which probably involves surgery and all sorts.
The parents, who must have given consent for this, should be arrested for child abuse.

Just like you might buy a toy kitchen for a kid who says they want to be a chef, a child who thinks they’re a gender other than their birth gender can try different toys, clothes and pronouns that they like and make them comfortable. No medical procedures are ever done to children to transition at LEAST until age 12 or the beginning of puberty, so the child has a long time to figure these things now. For now, they’re doing as a child does: exploring. They might be transgender, or they might decide they fit better with their birth gender as they grow older. Either way, it’s good to let them explore the possibilities a little, in a non-committing way
I would pull my child out of that class/school. I wouldn’t even bother with the school board as they will do nothing. These are “children” who do not intellectual maturity to deal with such a complicated issue.

No child is trans. Not one. This is ideological capture I wish I had noticed back in the day- but no, like the rest of the sheeple I just chose to “be kind,” now this behavior has become normalized and children are being “transed” in exponentially growing numbers. This is an emergency.

Shocking that the teacher herself does not know right from wrong, and was trying to convince the parents that she was innocent. Since WHEN do teachers believe that their own (often twisted) ideologies belong in the classroom? Its not appropriate at any age, but especially in kindergarten. I could almost imagine that student that brought her the books being raised by some real fruitcakes, and that's why the child is "confused" in the first place.
