    The Q4 charging speed will be increased to 170kW with a software update later on. Planning to order my Q4 tomorrow.

      I am still going to buy an E-tron 55 Quattro when I can afford it, hopefully in the next year or two. The Q4 is a great vehicle from what I have seen, but it does not have the power, style, build quality, or the practicality compared to the original E-tron. Range and charging time are not a huge factor for me, as I will be more than happy with its range and I can wait for the half an hour charging time at faster chargers.

      @@bradhoots8547 And Tesla is probably the most boring EV of them all. They are great to drive, but so is many others that is coming these days. I suspect the Kia EV6 will steal some customers from Tesla model 3. (just as fun to drive, same charging speed although without the charging network, but much better looking interior, exterior is personal taste, and in my personal opinion better seat quality).
      Teslas advantage is Full Self Drive, which other will catch up to later anyway.
      A friend of mine bought a model 3 when he started working in a different city about 200km away from home. (working weekdays, and home on weekends). As soon as he will start in different office near where he lives, so he doesn't need the range he will sell his Tesla and buy something else. Most likely a Mercedes EQA.

    For the first time, I do not agree with your view. You are comparing two different market segments. Regardless of discounts both models can currently get from a dealer, the base pricing has a big gap between them.
    Unfortunatelly it all comes down to cost - what level of technology and comfort can you offer in the base models and still be appealing to a lot of people. A key driver are the government incentives. Audi needed to stay under a certain price point for the Q4 to still qualify for the full grants (e.g. Germany or Ireland). The MEB platform was one way to achieve this, so some favourite features of the big ETron needed to be sacrificed. The big ETron is a beast in the 400V segment in terms of charging speed, but that technology can not be produced at the price point of the MEB platform and possibly even from a volume standpoint right now.
    Concerning the perception of quality: Yes, the material mix is also taylored to meet the cost targets but sustainability will also have played a big role. Soft touch materials are usually a nightmare to recycle, so they are kept to an acceptable minimum. Personally, I am happy with what I get in the Q4 for the price. Would I consider another car if I had the money to spend - sure! :-)

      Glad to hear people are disagreeing, that means that we are all different and value different things differently :)
      The whole point was to compare different vehicles in different segments, and to show people and especially those who are on the fence that you can actually get into the BIG E-Tron at a much smaller premium over the Q4 than people may think :) And as I said in the video, this comparison is only valid if you are looking at a well equipped Q4 E-Tron 50. All other Q4's are so much cheaper that the gap up to the BIG E-Tron will be too big :) Either way, shop around, get prices offers and try to haggle and choose the car you like the best at the price you are willing to pay.

      @@KrisRifa Kris I have been examining the two cars as I was originally looking at an Etron 55 Black Edition with a couple of packs included. Bottom line car cost 80k GBP I specced an Edition 1 with comfort,sound,tech safety and storage pack 58k GBP I don't believe the two cars represent in reality that much of a price gap when sitting inside and driving them.

      In the US, a maxed out q4 e tron 50 costs 5 thousand usd less than a big e tron with no options.
      A base q4 e tron 40 is 44 thousand.
      Base big e tron is 66 thousand usd
      Your arguments are absolutely correct

      aggree...i also have an E50 Q4 and very happy with it. I dont want the fat etron due to its more expensive, to big , more heavy and shorter range and the Q4 suits me perfectly.

    You might have a point in your country but for comparison in the UK the price difference for me as a business car driver is huge between the full E-tron and the Q4. I go on what I pay monthly (including government taxes known as Benefit In Kind) and the lowest spec Full E-Tron is 50% more monthly than a Q4 (unless you go for the top Vorsprung spec Q4). It doesn’t make financial sense here. Congrats if you can get a full E-Tron for not much more where you are though but it very much depends on the local market and circumstances.

      In most parts in the USA the big Etron is simply an unobtanium. With harnesses for it made in Ukraine it is just not available.

    Thanks. I’ve been trying to find something like this, I ordered the big etron fully loaded nearly a year ago and it just arrived, and I was wondering if I should have cancelled and gone with the Q4 as it’s the new generation. But I suspected it would be a slightly luxurious ID4. I’m happy with my choice, and love the etron!!

    I get your point, even though i just bought the Q4, and had it for a few months now. Im really pleased with the car, but your point about a high-spec Q4 50 vs the big E-tron is not bad. I bought the Q4 - 40, so for me the big E-tron would still be too far a gap. So despite the fact that i have the Q4 and im very satisfied with it (i drove from Denmark to Oslo in it last month)... your point makes sense :)

      @@ph5740 the new Skoda RS is clearly the best value of the 3 vehicles IMO, and it’s the best looking. The waiting list is longer for that model than the Audi or VW

    I just test drive both and I don’t see much difference in comfort. Etron doesn’t fit in my parking space, it has terrible range and feels like a bus while driving. Q4 is great alternative.. 20000+ cheaper also..

    Big etron55 is extremely confortable and feel wery premium. Ride confort in a level of its own! I would even suggest to go and get a little bit used one before choosing same priced smaller segment q4 etron 50 quattro. So i agree with you completelt, thx for some nice ev videos!

    Question about your E-tron, I've been looking at the second hand market for used E-trons. Any tips on pitholes I should avoid? The 50 is out of question so it's the 55 for me. Also, now that it's getting properly cold, how is the range on it?

    Q4 is great! not everyone wants a massive suv and the difference is minor, price difference is massive NO use Comparing the two from different segments from the same brand obviously you pay more u you get more

    I think some premium over Skoda/VW is valid - the looks are subjective but the Audi badge is worth something, physical AC controls, and Audi MMI are definitely worth a small premium over the poor infotainment on VW/Skoda. If you can live with relatively low spec 40 its a good option IMO.

    I got the Etron a year ago and traded back for a q4. Love that augmented reality navigation and bigger screen. Same tech don’t know why he said otherwise. I do like the shift selector and ac controls on the Etron more compared with the q4.

    When I was buying my Q4 50, it was about 150-200 KNok cheaper than the big ETron. I think that was compared to 50, not 55 even. I don't know about prices now but for that price difference I expect big ETron to be better.
    I cannot park the big ETron in my narrow garage so it isn't an option anyway 😀

    At this price point stretching to the big E-Tron is definitely worth it. Lower down the Q4 range makes more sense. I’ve got a Q4 40 S-Line (video on my channel) and I love it. Yeah on paper the Enyaq is better value as it costs less, but when I specced an Enyaq 80 up it was within £10 a month of the Q4. I can live without the extra 60 litres of boot space as I prefer the look of the rear end on the Q4. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

      @@Fiwek23452 the Skoda I specced was virtually the same cost per month as the Q4 so nobody got ripped off🤔 The back of an Enyaq is a bit too much like a van for me so I went for the Q4👍🏻 The ID4 and Enyaq I tested both had infotainment systems which were laggy and had glitches whereas the Audi one is well proven and seemed much smoother and more responsive. If I’d bought the Enyaq/ID4 I’d have felt ripped off as I’d be effectively beta testing for VW/Skoda. I’m not forking out that amount of money to use an unfinished product 😂

      Exactly the same for me, although the Audi (40 S-Line) is actually £50 cheaper on my company scheme than the Skoda (80 Suite) specced to the same level. I’m still waiting for delivery though - it’s been delayed twice and looking like autumn now. Both cars were great on test drives but like you I can live without the extras boot space. I just thought the Audi had a much nicer interior and as for the infotainment it’s no contest. How Skoda (and especially VW) can put out a product that basically doesn’t work I’ll never know.

    Q4 will mainly be sold in the 40 version. A friend of mine just bought a Q4 sportback 40 etron and got more than 8000 EURO’s in discount, but pricing in my country is probably different.

    Hi Chris I have an Audi Etron 2019 and getting the software update tomorrow .20 km more range they say 👍😬 93M3 - S-Software-update .I have now a net capacity of 83 kW this will increase it to 86 kW and more efficient updates .

    Q4 is getting 175kw peak charging speed before christmas maybe. You didnt hear about this? 🙂 Also the q4 actually has more length in the cabin surprisingly but has a smaller trunk. I also have to correct you on the stereos here😅 the standard stereo in the fat etron is not very good, at low volume yes its okay but Sonos is much better at higher volume so you really need upgraded stereo in both cars if you care about that.

    I´ve already chosen the Q4 50 Sportback over the big E-tron SP I wanted at first and don't regret at all.
    Well.. if you got 3 kids and lots of stuff to drive around only then I´d go for an E-tron. How often is your car that full of stuff anyway?
    Just drove 400km in around -5 average without any charging with the Q4 and the E-tron would not make it to even 300. That's a huge difference and one of the main reasons I went for the Q4. I think the big E-tron is a very bad deal compared to Q4. It's just too big for that litte battery its got. Yes, the interior is slightly better looking but all you need is in the Q4 anyway. I also think the Q4 drives much better on curvy roads and feels much more sporty. Q4 is quite as well if you don't want to listen to good music on that great Sonos sound system :)

      @@alng16 the cargo space is actually the same according to Audi. If you have tall passengers at the back of the SB they would feel the difference:) Still much better in my opinion.

    Great video, have been considering these two for a while and your perspective really helps with the decision. I agree that they are in different segments, but it boils down to real world numbers, and if you can get into the larger E-Tron with a little stretch, then why wouldn't you?
    I do like to spec up my cars, so I appreciate the difference on like for like spec cars would be larger. All depends on what sort of offer the dealer can put together on the E-Tron.

    Great video and great summary. In Norway a fully specced Q4 e-tron is 760.000 Nok and for that price you can get a quite good specced e-tron 55 including S-Line exterior and lots of equipment. If you add around 100k you will have all equipment Q4 e-tron has that e-tron 55 does not get for that price but in addition you gets a ton of stuff that Q4 does not have.

      The thing is you don't need full specs. Just get a mid-level Q4 50 and you are quite a bit below E-Tron 55.

      Have a Q4 E-Tron 50 Sportback ordered. 2022 model. I see you get many default equipment with the big E-tron but when i add the same extras i did with my Q4 i end up 100K NOK extra. Doesnt seem much but ive already stretched my budget far to reach Q4 E-tron so i dont dare doing another 100k :P

    here's the thing: The full size etron measures 4.90 meters, basically a mercedes gle. and the q4 is 4,55 meters long, basically a Hyundai Tucson.
    This is a problem for people who live in the city; tight parking spaces, parking lots, etc.
    So you can't really compare the two cars that are a whole 45 centimes different.
    the full size Etron is also more expensive

    The q4 etron is just ridiculously expensive for what it is.
    In Germany it is 65K EUR for the 40 and 68K EUR for the 45
    You have to pay extra for everything and many options are dependent from each other
    I would rater go for an ID4 instead, it seems to be more efficient too

    They are two different vehicles brother. Can’t recommend folks to steer towards the more expensive option. Although the Q4 charges 10mins slower, it is more efficient and less money upfront.

    I’ve had my one now for ten months now getting great mileage I’ve spoken to many 55 Etron drivers and they all say there next car will be a q4.

    My neighbor with no EV experience (have seen me driving EV for 1. 5 year) went out this summer and tested the Q4 and the ID.4 GTX and he ended up differently, he said he see no point in paying 150.000 NOK extra for a similar car with 4 rings in the front so he went for the ID.4 GTX. If VW can keep their promise of delivery in January is another thing :) That car really is sold out for a long time.

    The big E-Tron is also a lot more expensive. It should have a nicer interior. The Q4 should have a 360 degree camera.

    Surprised the price difference is so small in Norway. In other places I think the calculation is quite different, in Sweden you are looking at almost 50% extra for the old one.

      Not true. I just picked up a 55 S-line for about 100k more than a 45 Q4. If you compare the Q4 30 and the E-tron 55, then yes. The 50% is true. But the other thing is their availability. The Q4 doesn't start shipping properly for another 6-12 months estimated. If you can wait that long, then go for it. But even then, they're shipping the 35 and 40 first. The 45 and 50 are slated to be very short in initial supply according to the 3 Audi garages I've been discussing with. If you need a car soon, the current gen is all you can get easily.

      If you want better interior quality (but worse UI) and stronger car, get XC40. For everything else get Q4.

    I would say that the difference between Q4 and Etron 55 is smaller than between Q4 and Enyaq/ID4 so your logic is fundamentally flawed from the gecko. Despite that - these two cars are still in completly different segments/classes so it makes no point in even making this video. Price difference is huge. Actually you almost get two Q4 40s for the price of 1 Etron 55…..

    You are right Chris ! Smart point. I consider the corect price difference, for similar level of donations is 24.000 euro. So, if the big Etton is 75k, the q4 should be 51k. Only then the q4 makes sense.

    The fat eTron is simply too big on the outside and despite fast charging, range is bad due to bad efficiency. Would never choose the fat e-Tron. Anyhow, in this budget range, the Model Y LR is a better choice I believe.
    Also the deliveries of the Q4 are ridiculous at the moment. They are over 12 months...

      I totally understand if people think the size og the BIG E-Tron is too BIG! Range is 420km vs 462km, which is not that much of a difference though, and because the BIG E-Tron charges much faster from 80-100% more of that range is actually usable in the real world. Model Y is not a bad choice, but It will not be as comfortable or as quiet as these though. So it is a different vehicle in that regard :)

      @@KrisRifa My ideal EV would be as follows: Take the Polestar2, make it just a little bit larger especially in the back and trunk. Interior and navigation with Google are fine. Drivetrain and efficiency of a Tesla Y LR. Battery, BMS and charging : Tesla. And then a dashboard and steering wheel of Audi, without getting the endless option lists of Audi and respective pricing.

      Hmmmmm maaaaybeeeee you should take a look at the videos where I go through the interior in detail in both the big E-Tron and Q4 E-Tron and compare, because it ain't even close dude... NOT EVEN CLOSE... and sure, the big E-Tron has some places with cheap plastics, like most luxury cars - but most of the interior is top notch 👌

      @@KrisRifa Well I'dont think that there is any need to discuss the relabeled VW (I have no idea why on earth should someone pick the Q4 over the Enyaq).
      The first Audi I 've ever driven was the 200 Turbo my dad had in the eighties. Since then I had been an Audi-Fanboy and had lots of them, but than I drove like you the XC90 T8 and was really disappointed how bad and cheap the E-Tron compared to the Volvo is.
      None of these cars is worth their pricetag but to me my Volvo Inscriptipon fully speced was way more premium than my fully speced E-Tron.
      Same with my wife, she switched from A6 4F to 4G and was very disappointed about the cheap look inside. They just live on former reputation

      @@stefanlenz Well the E-Tron is built on the MLBevo platform which is shared with cars like the Porsche Cayenne, Lamborghini Urus, Bentley Bentayga and yes the VW Touareg. To call the big E-Tron a rebadged VW is just simply false.
      There are many reasons why someone would or should pick the big E-Tron over the Q4 or Enyaq, the interior quality being one of them. The big E-Tron interior is objectively much built out of nicer materials. I mean, if you think the big E-Tron is a big downgrade from the XC90 the Q4 is like stepping into a VW up compared to the big E-Tron. I agree that XC90 has a nicer interior than the big E-tron, but then again the big E-Tron is much more quiet (actually one of the quietest cars on the market) and rides much better as well. Audis tech is also better than the Sensus infortainment system in XC90s. I much prefer the A6 C8 to the A6 C7. I think the latest generation of Audi interiors are nicer and better built than the last gen.

      @@KrisRifa Just to be clear: With "relabeled VW" I meant the Q4.
      For me the tech I use (mainly highway use) the Volvo with its old PA2 is way better than my E-Tron. Yes the Volvo had no automated cruise control based on navigation or roadsigns, but the one build in my Audi is that buggy, that its close to useless. One of its "nice" features is that its accelarating to 130 when i'm in a 80kmh road construction area. Or take rural roads with no line in the middle. My Volvo used only the right marking and kept right, the E-Tron constanly drives in the middle of the road and pops a warning when you try to correct it.
      Yes the ETron is a bit quieter (I measured both on the same Autobahn) and the suspension is a bit better, but on the other hand I have the typical E-Tron rumble front left and its annoying, that Audi can not fix it. But the E-Tron is a wunderful car if you are a fischerman. Mine has a fish farming area on the passenger side due to a leaking panoramic roof. Yes I was at the dealer 3 weeks ago to fix this and now its even worse than before.

      ​@@stefanlenz I think everything is relative. In EV world Big E tron, next to EQC, I Pace are the top of the chain in term of luxury: great build quality, finishing and ride quality. However If you compare Big E tron to its ICE cousin, Q7, or XC90 for that matter, then you will see that the ICE variation is slightly better in term of luxury features (no hard plastic, better material, more refined interior)
      This applies also for instance to Mercedes EQC compared to GLS and so on.....
      I think companies have to cut down the price on their new flaghsip EV models so that they can compete with their ICE cousins and that implies for instance more use of hard plastic.
      Taycan, "right out the box", is one of the few new EVs that can compete with a similar ICE model in term of luxury factors.
      But like i said in EV world, cars like E tron, EQC are the top of the chain in term of luxury.
      Obviously in near future Audi or Mercedes and so on....will come with a proper EVs dedicated platform cars that will offer the same luxury level as their ICE cousins.

    It's not really comparable for the Q4 and the etron. One is 60K the other is 100K. So yes you will get a nicer interior in the etron.

    This interior looks nicer than the old e-tron. And you're totally wrong about that car too, there are plenty of cheap creaky plastics in that car. Notably the center console. The design on the Q4 makes a lot more sense, aside for the bad UI.

    Good Video Kris, but to compare or decide between a low equiped e-tron (starts @70K€)or good equiped Q4 50 e-tron quattro(73K€)?? c'mon., bro?!. Besides that, the e-tron starts at 69K€ and the Q4 at 41K€ (both basic models/ not even seat heaters)even with nice discount your not even close to the Q4.Increased Charging speed will probably come up this with a software update. I don't even think the e-tron will suitable for that update. But your right, when it comes to the interior materials. At the end of the day...your compared two different classes.

    The aspects you use as comparision sound mostly as questionble.
    Could it be the really short time span you drove an E55 that it was not your best decison ever?
    And yes, no frunk is a pitty saving on Frontshield uprisers and the material used partially is not in shape when comparing with the price they charge.
    But:
    The most important aspect is - EFFICENCY - and there E55 is undergroundish, only can make up by charging speed what for sure will be seen in the life span of the Battery pack - but to guys who have a car for 1 or 2 years of course thats a no brainer, while for sustainability this point matters maybe as top aspect on the parameter list an EV should have. (see the aerodynamic competition between MB and Tesla, see the weight optimizations in car manufacturing design all driven by exactly this point - but there the understanding requires knowledge in desgin, physics and engineering)
    Btw, the old Etron, I refused to take even for free - Why? Design wise it is an old piece of heavy metal - 2.7 tons of weight is simply insane - outside dimensions are Q7 like (could luck with any parking garage South of Scandinavia) while the Q4 is much smaller from the outside but as you rightly say, from the usability, about on pair from the inside.
    I recommend to check Auto Motor & Sport and a real benchmark without BS or nonsense where even the German car soul is shifted in the background.

    I don't agree with you. Yes, the charging speed of the big etron is better, but the Q4 is much more efficient. On long distance trips the Q4 should be as fast as the big etron. When looking at the price the difference between Q4 50 and etron 55 is more about 25000€ at least in Germany. Actually there are also no discounts. Maybe there are good leasing offers for the big etron.

      Bjorn gets his famous 1000km done in 10h20 both with the Enyaq and the eTRON55. So the difference with the Q4 etron is probably neglectible. But I also do not like the inefficient fat etron.

    The e tron is an ICE platform. The Q4 is based on the new MEB platform.
    I know what I'd like my EV to be based on and it's not a re engineered ICE chassis.

      @@Balm73 No it isn't. Petrol and Diesel just skyrocketed in price. Recharging an EV (at night, like you should) is 50-60% of the cost of the equivalent range in petrol or diesel. Assuming your cars are of similar size. Of course 300km in a 1.2 VW polo is going to be cheaper than running a Land Rover.
      But driving costs are more than just fuel. Consider servicing, tax and congestion charges, the EV starts to get a lot cheaper.

      @@the_chris if you can't charge at home during night it is currently expensive to charge because of circumstances in the electricity production. That will of course change when wind is picking up, the rivers have frozen and natural gas in EU is cheap again (and whatever other reasons that currently make electricity expensive). Normally driving an EV is probably 1/3 of the price per km of a petrol or diesel equivalent car. And my comment was only on the "drive" part of EV, not the TCO. 🙂

    I can tell you that the id4 drives very annoying. Also the small futuristic screens on the most ev cars are annoying as hell. The hyuandai ionic 5 drives very nice thou. The most beautiful interior is by far the Q4.

    If you can afford the e-tron 55 then might as well buy BMW ix xDrive50, it has better technology and better range. Q4 e-tron is one of the best in its price range, while big etron is just mediocre compared to BMW.

    Fat etron was about 150k more when I was buying mine.
    Fat etron has worst efficiency of all similar cars. While in Q4 you might be able to reach your destination and slow charge, fat etron will have to stop.
    And the worst part, there is new fat etron coming next year or in 2023. Buying new fat etron now not very wise. Wait a year or two.

      You don’t understand why I would compare them? Every body who I know who has considered the Q4 has also considered the big E-Tron and vice versa.. literally everybody I know. And as I said in the video, people ask me this all the time in the comment section. They overlap in price and it is exactly like comparing an A4 and an A6 which is what people do ALL TIME while shopping for cars 🙈 It’s called cross shopping and weighing your options, and I would recommend it to anybody looking to buy a vehicle. And telling somebody not to buy something is not negative, you reading it that way speaks to your mindset and not mine 😉

    I think the Q4 e-tron 50 is in no way worth it over the Q4 e-tron 45. The 50 only delivers it's "299" hp when the battery is over 88% SOC and above 20-25 degrees C - which basically means never. It just seems like a way for Audi to upsell "one number bigger" with no real world difference from the 45 which delivers 265 hp without those unrealistic conditions. Unless the 50 model has some extra equipment it seems pointless.

    I would choose the Skoda Enyaq instead. It has a lower price and the interior quality feels a bit more premium than the Q4. The only thing I like more about the Q4 is the exterior design in the back.

I can afford a Q4 ... I can't afford the etron. So besides being less than the daddy etron, why shouldn't I buy this car?

      Well as I said in the video very clearly that if you are looking to buy a well spec’ed top the line Q4 E-Tron the jump up to a similar spec’ed big E-Tron may be a lot smaller than people
      might think. So if you can afford it, it may be worth the jump. And as I also said very clearly if you are looking at an entry level or even midrange Q4 then this videos does not apply to you because the price jump is too great 😊
