I have a meta theory about this. Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong (be gentle while raking me over the hot coals though). I believe that Liam never really intended for Caleb to romance Jester. In fact I think he had been planning the opposite from day one. His RP was always very understated, romance-wise, and if he hadn't made that declaration on Talks, all the Widojest moments could have been explained away as platonic. And it makes sense that he wanted to keep it that way if he was waiting for Travis to make a move. But Travis did not seem inclined, so Liam made the declaration - outside of the game. This is important. In-game, it would have been too final. But delivered as meta, it was what flipped the switch and made the pieces come together. And it gave Travis a chance to finally come to a decision and get his act together. If we think about it, Liam had similar, if not stronger RP moments with Astrid and Essek. And after Fjorester became reality, he switched to hinting at Caleb/Essek again. All of this is, of course, pure conjecture. But in my opinion Liam is 1, a genius actor; 2, a meticulous planner who plays the long game; and 3, possibly the best wingman in the history of CR. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
I think Caleb entire reasoning for not saying anything is that he doesn’t deserve happiness in his personal life, but he can be in the view of it and kind of experience it by see everyone else’s happiness.

I’m sorry but that extra “good night” in actual German around 16:16 is what sells me on Caleb’s whole affection. Because that is so sweet and genuine and so HIM…

I don't watch critical role, so my only exposure to it is clips on TH-cam, fan animations, compilations and the like. As such, I can't express how confused I was to discover that Jester was not interested in Caleb. Literally everything I ever see with those two characters is Jester outrageously flirting with Caleb, who always seems like he doesn't know how to handle it. To find out that Caleb had romantic interest in Jester, but she didn't have any in him was shocking :p
I don't really understand the desire to see them shipped but hey they definitely are adorable together 🥰 🥰
