Trier! Love that city. Lived near Mannheim between 1985-1989, and Bitburg from 1992-1994. Each place about 1 hour drive to Trier.

The model is amazing to see and when you think what it must have looked like back in Roman time it is truly incredible. The church is also beautiful. I am still very much interested in getting some of that HU Louisiana Flake you mentioned a while ago. Really love the history you share with these videos, Mark! Being a Lutheran cleric, I’m captivated by the breadth of German religious history. I’m going to have to read up on St. Simeon and Trier. I’m not sure if I enjoy the history or the tobacco reviews more....probably the tobacco by a smidge as I’m just getting back into pipe smoking. As always, I appreciate your videos. We all getting older Mark, from here the vacations I think, Will send him few more pipes with badly finished factory stems, most often the issue with some low-medium priced French and (Sic!)English made pipes is a chubby thick button and stems being rather on the shorter side+many time the raw material of ebonite on those leaves a lot to be desired,

Thanks for the Video! Finally I saw the Porta Nigra from the inside. It's about 10 years ago we started our tour to visit the whole german part of river Mosel in Trier. But with a dog, it is not a good idea to go inside of it. We had a really fine long weekend that days, with a tent in the car. For you, it was really close to sleep in the black Gate😄 Maybe its better to drive up the Mosel, there are a few roman villas by the way😏

As for HU White Horses, i agree with your take on it. I was able to get a sample of that and although is a high quality blend( as all HU blends are)there are some older ones that i enjoyed better,but that is just a matter of personal taste. Ah! We have been eagerly awaiting "touring with Mark" in the summer! We always know that you are going in somewhere; what we're never quite sure of is whether you are coming out!
A fascinating ruin and equally fasicnating the added history to it. A shame you coudln't have gotten into the cathedral. Out of curiosity, was the smaller chapel a pilgrim's chapel perhaps?

And...well..the "Liebfrauenkirche" is the earliest Gothic church in Germany...and was built, to serve as the church of the church congregation of Trier...the cathedral was an episcopal building...we have the same combination Bremen too...

Fabulous video as always. It is amazing to me to see an 1800 year old structure which has been built and rebuilt and repurposed by successive civilizations - here in the US my home is considered “very old” at only 200 years of age! Are the brick repairs contemporary ? Or 19th century?

Wonderful tour; thanks heaps for taking the time for us! That HU White Horses sounds like a very fine tobacco; do you think the kentucky and cigar leaf work harmoniously or does one dominate at different stages of the bowl?
Thanks for that! And...well...I don't think, there is any dominance by any of the ingredients...but...I don't know...perhaps (and just perhaps) that makes it less interesting, than a slightly dominace of the Havana could have been...but, that's just a thought...

Sorry for being late... But...well...I think, it works pretty fine...the dominance is more a question of temperature in this case... Smoked very slowly, the cigar leaf will be more detectible...since the Kentucky doesn't care much about a bit more heat...and gets in front then... Take care! Hope, you're well!

Can't really answer that...sometimes colleagues or students ask me, if it isn't too hot for long trousers or a jacket...and I always respond "warm weather is no excuse for undignified behaviour...lol...we can learn that from our Italian friends, I guess...you won't see em entering a church in short pants...no matter what the temperature might be...lol

Love your channel! when you date this to 'after Christ'... my question is, is do you believe in Jesus Christ? By believe in Jesus Christ, meaning whether you believe in the true Jesus, who died for you sins and rose from the dead. Many people use this term 'after Christ' and im always curious as to their stance on how its being dated... whether they are Christian or not.
Yeah...well...you know...some people use the term "according to our calender"...that might even be more precise...since, we're not so sure, that Jesus was really born in the 0 or 1...but I like, to use the old christian calender anyway...seems more traditional to me...beside of anyones true faith...and after all...even most of chinese people use it...
