Bruce, thanks so much for watching and commenting. I agree it’s a fine 22 rimfire rifle. Accurate, lightweight and nice to look at. I hope you will consider subscribing to the channel.
Excellent piece. Savage arms have some niece piece at the moment. Sean an A17 with Thumbhole recently at the range. I got the impression this was extremely reliable and no issues with various ammo types. Thnanks for sharing. My next .22lr likely to be by savage arms
Thanks so much for commenting and watching. My channel has three different reviews of bolt action savage 22 rimfire rifles. I think they are one of the best values out there. Great triggers, good accuracy and good reliability. Thanks again for commenting!
I picked one of these up last fall. It shoots quite nice. I got mine for $220. The cost of threading one of my others was going to be half that so thought I might as well go ahead and have 2 rifles. I have been more than pleasantly surprised and have zero malfunctions through about 400 rounds. Hopefully when my can comes in I’ll like it even more!
Sir, thank you for watching and commenting. Yes these savage .22 rifles are such a joy to shoot. They have a great trigger are well balanced and very accurate. Once you suppress them, you’ll enjoy them even more. Extremely Low noise effect when suppressed and shooting subsonic ammunition. Once again thanks for commenting I hope you will consider subscribing and checking out some of the other content on our channel.
Interesting... I've never had an issue with CCI in any of my .22 rifles or pistols. In fact the other savage .22 rifles I've owned loved the CCI standard velocity ammo. Thanks for watching!
My first gun was a Remington 514 bolt action 22. That was around 1975 ?, then the Nylon 66 a year or so later. I was around 11 or 12 and my father figured I was ready. I'm happy to say I still own both and enjoy shooting them just as much today.
Rusty hook, thanks so much for sharing that with the subscribers. I love those classic Remington’s. Great to hear they are still in use! I hope you’ll subscribe to the channel.
Thanks for a great video I have one of these with wood stock on it did have trouble with it but after some good cleaning has come good did get it 2nd hand but happy with IT now do have a savige in 17 HMR with black synthetic stuck it all so great rifle Thanks Agen for your video happy shooting from Michael in Australia
G'day Mate! Thanks for commenting and watching. Like you, I enjoy the Savage Arms .22 bolt guns. I have several reviews the channel and hope you'll check those out. Hope you'll subscribe and share with friends and family. Stay safe.
@@frankhinkle5772 I agree that there is real value with this rifle. After the 1st ammo shortage I’ve been buying lots of 22 ammo. And recently I’ve been able to buy .22 ammo for $0.08 to $0.09 a round making it very affordable to shoot in volume.
Well, they’re too ways to look at this. You’ve got a firearm that’s working and doing the job but it’s always nice to upgrade when you can. I think these savage 22 ball guns are some of the best out there on the market for their cost. Thanks for watching and commenting. I hope you’ll subscribe to the channel.
I have 3 22lr rifles, all fail randomly extracting CCI, it is the was. I took a rag wiped ammo clean of wax, Wela no failure to extract. I contacted CCI, exchanged pictured e-mails, never heard back. I have the minimalist, velociter, standards and 36gr mini all work well. Sellier Bellot Club nice groups to. Most SK is tight groups...
Interesting feedback thanks for sharing. The other savage arms 22 Bolt guns I own have had great results using CCI standard velocity ammunition. In fact every 22 rifle I own shoots CCI standard velocity ammunition very well with good accuracy and I’ve never had FTE issues with CCI… therefore I was surprised to have the issues I had with ammunition in the Mark ll minimalist.
I'm trying to find a 22lr bolt action or considering a henry small game rifle for squirrel hunting im narrowed down to the henry or a cz 457 american I have a friend tell me to look at a savage 22lr what would you recommend
I have the same weapon I had it for less than a week I put 1,200 rounds though it and some screws at the magazine and the trigger started to come lose And my barrel was wobbles so I tighten them up to see if that fixed it and I can still move the barrel with my thumb I never mistreated the rifle besides shoot it and cleaning it if you call that misuse should I take it back or is this somehow my fault. And I only use 40gain .22 form federal auto match
Many thanks for commenting and watching. I’m a fan of the savage arms mark two bolt guns. They are relatively inexpensive, accurate and a joy to shoot. I hope you’ll check out some of the other content on the channel and subscribe.
Sir, I’d love to be able to do that if I can get my hands on one. Our reviews typically feature firearms that people loan us or ones that we own. Manufacturers do not generally send us firearms for review although I certainly would encourage them to do so!
Thank you for commenting. I think your issue is not the rifle it’s the ammunition. 22s are notoriously sensitive to certain brands of ammunition. The 1022 and the savage mark two or two very different types of firearms. Bolt action vs semiautomatic. I own both and liked them for different reasons. Try some different ammunition in your Ruger. Likely you’ll have different results. Thanks for watching and commenting. I hope you’ll subscribe to the channel.
@@GunsGearOnTargetTrainingLLC oh yeah my Ruger loves CCI Mini mags, and the lrn standard, that’s my cheap o go to, runs flawlessly. I also like the Aguila copper jacketed round nose, and the CCI AR ammo is super consistent, definitely can notice the difference.
I have an old Ruger 10/22 that was from the 1970s it was stove piping on what you're talking about and then like these people said check other brands and see what it does if it's stove pipes a majority of the time on all brands or the majority of the brands go by and ejector or order one off of eBay it's about a 7 to $10 part and then it will be kicking them shells out clear especially if you've been through a few thousand rounds or if it's an older 10:22 because I figured in 1970s 10:22 is probably had before you I even bought it probably $6,5000 rounds through it
First, thank you for the video! Well done and very informative. Second, any thoughts on adequate scopes for .22s? Maybe just out to 200yds max? Thanks!
It all depends on who much you want to spend. I've never through about the .22 rifle as a long distance tool. Generall I shoot at 50-100 yards max. @@GunsGearOnTargetTrainingLLC Thanks for the reply! I have another Vortex on my Bergara and I really like their products. They seem to build nice scopes overall. I'll check it out. Subscribed. Thanks again!
I've not tried the 17 hmr. For me, I like to do a lot of shooting and the 17 hmr is too costly to shoot in volume. I have shot a few and think it's a super cool cartridge and set up.
Yes, this specific rifle was disappointing but both of the other savage .22 bolt guns run any type of .22 ammo without issue. SO, it's odd this the "Minimalist" doesn't. Thanks for commenting. Hope you'll subscribe.
Thanks for watching and commenting. I have not had problems with CCI cartridges in the past. I think 22 ammunition is generally a dirty cartridge to begin with meaning you shouldn’t have high expectations. I appreciate you watching and commenting. Stay safe.

What's a good scope and rings to get for this gun? I just bought one last month.

The Savage Arms .22s are excellent.
What's the difference between the Minimalist and the Compact?
The primary difference with a minimalist is its laminate wood furniture.
