Hi! Greetings from Honduras! First I want to thank you for your awesome videos. As a teacher, I love them and my (bilingual school) 5th graders and their parents, love them too. I can't tell you how useful they have been since online teaching has become our new normal due to the pandemic. I´m hoping you can make more videos about blends (Such as "When SC sounds like sh, sk and s") and many more, so that we can stick with you in our Phonics class. All our admiration.God bless and take care.
This was quite helpful. Its been quite challenging trying to get my little girl to focus long enough to blend. Can we get a lesson plan of sort? one needs to know what steps to take once the child has mastered the letters of the alphabet. Thanks
Thank you for this video, I’m really struggling with my boy he is 5 and hasn’t learned his letters quite well. All your videos are really informative and funny thanks I really appreciated
Hello , I just want to thank you for sharing with us. I teach ESL first graders , and some of them they read with difficulty. They know all the sounds but the blending part is a little tricky for them . One of my weak students , keeps looking around the room whenever I ask her to read; I need your help in this . Why a child looks around and not on the word whenever she can not read that word?
+Doaa al j Hi there! There are many reasons the child might do this. She may be upset that she cannot read yet and therefore would rather not try. If that is the case, it is important to let her see others, including adults, making mistakes. This will let her know it is okay to make mistakes of her own! This may also be because she is struggling in a different way - for example, maybe she finds it hard to see the words or hear the sounds. If you suspect this, it would be good to recommend a sight or hearing test. Lastly, try looking at books that interest her and focus on pictures as well as words. Good luck!
My 7yr old is really not getting all this, I spent all summer going through all this with him and nothing helps!Anybody have any ideas on what to do???😭😭😭
Hi, have you spoken to your child's teacher about this? Blending can be very tricky especially if a child is finding the stages before this tricky. Does your child enjoy looking at books? One important thing is not to force the learning- don't worry, all children learn st their own rate. If we force them when they are not ready it can make them dislike learning or worry about it. If you speak with his teacher they should be able to give you some resources to help support your child at home 🙂
@@LittleLearnersVideos thanks for your reply, yeah his teacher knows and gave him a p2 booklet to help him! If I were to sound out c a t and say cat he would guess a different word even if I just said cat, i think he might have dyslexia backward letters but not 100% sure yet
If he is guessing then this is usually because he's worried about getting it wrong so has stopped trying to blend and just guesses instead. This could be due to something like dyslexia, but a doctor or educational psychologist could inform you more about that. Have a go at the speeding up technique, where you say c-a-t (with robot arms) and keep getting faster until you eventually say the whole word. Good luck 🙂
Due do carona and lockdown teaching reading to my child so much frustrating to me.... Online classes is more frustrating ... Child not show to much of interest on that...
It so refreshing to find someone who can happily say how hard children may find blending and segmenting.
