  • Only a few miles off I17 North of Camp Verde AZ, within the Coconino National Forest. Lies a parking lot for equestrian campers. The BLM authorities don't allow regular camping, but welcome travelers with horses to spend up to 14 days. We were given permission to get water from the day use and small camp down by wet beaver creek. There's only maybe a couple days of riding available. Bell trail has a section that's on the side of the red rock cliffs that becomes very narrow. We didn't continue that far as there was alot of hikers there that day. We ventured off on the bikes to check out our next stop outside Sedona AZ. Stay tuned for our next grand adventure.

Just a question. What do you do for Hay? Do you buy it out there ?

Yes. We stock up generally everytime we move sites. We feed mostly beet pulp complete feed. Hay is just a slice morning and night. We find the TSC compressed bales the easiest. And the horses love the standlee alfalfa grass mix. Sometimes we find hay local to where we are and pick it up with the motorcycle trailer.

Do your dogs run alongside you when you ride?

No . When I had just 1 she rode everywhere with me, even on my bike. Now they stay in the RV when we ride

I'm thinking about doing the same in a couple weeks.. I'm assigned to three weeks in Kingman on a drill rig out of Mina Nevada. No motorcoach but wall tent it

Only my husband old 26 yr old wore his hooves down to where we had to get shoes put on him. My big mare wears boots and did great all winter

Are your horses shod? And do you do that yourselves or how are you contacting farriers?

Honey bee has only been shod once in her life. If the trails are rocky I put boots on her. Now if we go back to Arizona I would put pads and shoes on both horses front and back. Generally I trim my own horses in the road but if they get to long, I'll Google local farriers or when we were in Florida I just posted on a Florida page and a farrier came within a couple days. The power of social media pages in the horse world has been our go to. Your always meeting some super people that become good friends
