Today, we're taking a deep dive into a series by @SpectreAnimations that took the Five Nights at Freddy's community by storm almost a year ago. This series has some of the most intriguing storytelling and terrifying direction and horror of any FNAF VHS out there... and I'm gonna tell you all about it.

Something I want to point out, you use the date when the tapes were recorded to give an idea of when they were declassified, but I think it's more likely that the 25 years would be from after they were confiscated, so the declassification dates may not be accurate as the tapes wouldn't have been confiscated immediately after being recorded, it could have happened years later. That could also mean that the tapes were declassified recently, and that's why they are being uploaded (assuming being uploaded is like, a lore thing, as a way to expose fazbear ent. or something, if the tapes being uploaded/their upload date isn't canonical though, then who knows) which would mean they were confiscated around the time of 1998 or so.

One thing I've noticed about some analog horror content is that the character's awareness is limited to what the camera can see. E.G. the FNAF employee only notices that the animatronic has moved once the camera reveals it. I think reacting to something off-screen because the character sees it before the camera does could add some depth to these types of videos

Just a small note at 15:00, when the protagonist says "That's all she wrote"; This is actually a saying/phrase, possibly) used incorrectly here, but it isn't confirmed that a woman wrote the note. Well you gotta consider that the cop is just doing his job despite the risks. Yeah sure logically he should've drove to the police station to get help, but then he risks losing the animatronic and suspects by the time he gets back up. The cop even explains that his and his partner's radios are broken so that's why he needed a phone.
And if you're going to argue that the cop should've shot the thieves first while in the mall, cops usually try to apprehend the suspects first and wait for the suspects to shoot first before engaging. Cops can't just shoot criminals on sight until they see a gun visibly being pulled on them.

That's what I was thinking, even though I don't know alot about the tech, I just had a feeling that it was way too out of place.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but using tech for serious paranormal investigation and such wasn't really in the cultural zeitgeist during the 80s (except for Ghostbusters maybe). Don't think it really popped off till the late 90s or certainly 2010s with Paranormal Activity and other ghost hunting shows, so basically, there wouldn't have been much reason for any dedicated tech to exist during the 20th century. Guess nerd brains think alike or smth

Not trying to be rude, just reminding that this is also a series where vintage animatronics walked around as early as the 70s and ghosts are very much real, so the tech is near-futuristic and the paranormal stuff would likely have more focus on it since... well, I don't need to tell you that having scientifically measurable paranormal activity is a pretty big difference.

I've interpreted Henry's confession as his own guilt overwhelming him. We know from Pizzeria Simulator that he does feel guilty for his part in William's actions, even to point of suicidal thoughts. Henry may have believed the evidence against William was too flimsy for the police and courts to use, so instead, since someone had to be punished for the deaths of several people, most of whom are children, he confessed to crimes he didn't commit. I don't think Henry is mentally well, so maybe we know why he doesn't show up in most of the games; he was getting help overcoming his guilt. Makes his arc kinda impressive.

I feel like Henry and Chris's scraping adventure has more to it than what we have seen so far. While the theory of them getting parts does make sense, why would they steal a company truck, presumably steal the animatronics, and go absolute strapped? Who needs a submachine gun to scavenge scrap? Along with their apparent 'control' of Foxy, I wonder if this was initially some big end game that completely feel apart. Perhaps they were planning on taking out William, and had the weapons as a back up, but William realized the truck was stolen and call the cops to look for a truck with "company logo". I think the reason for the archival tapes can go two ways. Either the collection of tapes is someone building a case against William (or whoever), or it's William having some sort of Trophy of his victims. I think the latter makes the most sense considering the general view of William Afton in most FNAF media. For me, it makes sense that William Afton would keep records of his victims for his own enjoyment AND for further exploration of the animatronics because he can't really 'test' them himself. Especially in this series because of the police tape and actions that the two men (William and Henry) take. It is more of William creating criminal animatronics and using/improving the animatronics for his own gain rather then flat murder in the og FNAF. I don't know for sure I'm just guessing at this point lol.

This to me is a notable difference from their behavior with the guys in the first two episodes(and the officer in the 4th) and I think that it's because the Investigator was the only one of the three not wearing a Fazbear Entertainment uniform of any kind. Don't know if that was intentional or not but it's interesting to think about nonetheless.

I really like the 4th tape. I love when Horror Series expand their lore and give room for breaths of fresh air and have characters react irrationally to high stress situations. People complain about it, but the truth is that when you're under pressure and in a high stress situation, it takes a lot to keep calm enough to think things through logically-and this guy did what he thought he needed to from having a (earned) complete breakdown over what happened at the truck. He focused on the fact these people were robbed and had an animatronic.
Foxy working so seamlessly with Henry and his partner is also an interesting note. It says the kids, to some extent, have to be even vaguely aware that Henry is either 'safe' or 'off limits.' And considering that Charlie/The Puppet is presumably hanging around somewhere, and has always been somewhat more coherent, its possible thats why. A fellow ghost said "trust this one." Of course, its just a guess on my part.

None of the children ever wanted to hurt him, they were just trying to scare him away so he wouldn't get caught by Afton. It makes him shouting "GET OUT." not an angry spirit, but a desperate child trying to save his only hope at justice. Finally, someone knows what happened to them, but it won't mean anything if he dies now.

It makes sense, he's not dressed like an employee so they aren't mistaking him for purple guy like they do the guards, plus they haven't been stuck in the animatronics as long as they have been in the later vids. They're still just hurt kids.

I’ve been thinking about this for a while now… Wouldn’t a Resident Evil 7 VHS work really well??? You could couple it with every gory death being messily censored and the screen stopping. Idk it’s just been on my mind a while 😅

i really like the fact that the animatronics didn't even have murderous intent for the paranormal investigator and just wanted to be understood, but then freddy did chase him to get him out before who i presume is william could murder him too but he was too late as he was shot.

the bathroom door opening and closing was probably either Jeremy, Fritz, or Gabriel messing with the investigator

yk, it good idea for the employees to do these late night animatronic tests with another person, at least just so that it’s less scary and definitely for emergencies and shit.

i think the reason henry tried to take the blame is for a similar reason why some innocent people take the blame for the actually criminal, maybe henry and william were still friends and henry just wanted to keep hope that william wasnt truly evil, but idk could be a bit of a stretch

Nice to see a series that takes place on Pennsylvania we have a lot of weird stuff here but it's rare for me at least to see stuff set in PA especially not in Philly, Lancaster or Harrisburg

This series goes from 1-60 at a great pace and then blasts up to 100 in a way I didn't like. Story scale usually increased over time but the subtlety of the work was lost once I found myself watching a low poly shootout. The earliest portions spooked me the heck out and the author does really well building dread; I think that they fell into a trap of feeling they needed more payoff than they did. The story escalates too fast and loses itself, which is too bad because I was super on board.

it seems that these "tapes" are going over each animatronic individually so because we've got Freddy Foxy Chica and Bonnie finished so the only logical we are likely to get next is either Golden Freddy or the Puppet (or just the toy animatronics)

I'm surprised I managed to make it into one of your videos, even if it was only for a few moments lol. Great review, keep up the awesome content!

49:40 It’s possible that William was recording all these things and keeping himself separate by using the term Boss because he’s trying to frame Henry for the crimes, even going so far as to turn himself in, knowing there’s no incriminating evidence against him, leaving Henry as the only possible candidate. He could also have done all these things and kept recordings of them to study the animatronics and see how they behave in order to control them later with how we saw the guys in the truck did
